ABOUT SHADWEN

Shadwen is a stealth-action game where the only rule is to remain unseen. Stay hidden – or the ruthless guards will kill you on sight!

Shadwen, an assassin on a quest to kill the king, has a chance encounter with an orphaned girl, Lily. She follows Shadwen on her dangerous journey, but when the ruthless guards get too close, Shadwen must take action right in front of Lily’s eyes.

Will Shadwen risk the girl’s budding trust by resorting to violence, or try and find another way while keeping her real purpose concealed?

To kill or not to kill – that is the question.

FEATURES
  • MOVE FREELY – Sneak and explore around the dark and gritty medieval province and use the environment to your advantage – use your rope to grapple onto rooftops, silently drop down from ceilings, or veil yourself in the shadows.
  • STAY HIDDEN – Pick your assassinations carefully. Avoid being seen, heard or getting caught indirectly. Suspicious sights and noises will alert the guards – use it to your benefit!
  • TIME IS AN ACCOMPLICE – Time stands still when you are not moving Shadwen, allowing you to stop at any point mid-motion. Rewind time to manipulate your past and present actions!
  • USE PHYSICS – Use physics and a freely attachable rope to drag and topple objects. Make deaths look accidental; let gravity do the grave work.
  • CREATE TRAPS AND HAZARDS – Set up traps and hazards to lure guards towards their untimely demise; discover new ways to eliminate or distract your foes by crafting items into deadly surprises, including poison traps, spike devices, decoy toys and more.
  • TWO CHARACTERS – Embrace the darkness with Shadwen and her abilities to protect Lily and create a safe passage for her.

Winner, Best Downloadable Game by GameSpot's E3 Editors' Choice Awards

"Apart from the beautiful graphics, what made the game stand out was just how spot-on everything was--whether it was the controls, the interactions between the three characters, or the puzzle-solving mechanics, it's clear the developers spent a lot of time refining the gameplay." full review

About This Game

Trine is a fantasy action game where the player can create and use physics-based objects to beat hazardous puzzles and threatening enemies. Set in a world of great castles and strange machinery, three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil.

The gameplay is based on fully interactive physics - each character's different abilities help the player battle an army of undead and defeat hazardous contraptions. The player can at any time freely choose whoever is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle: The Wizard is able to summon objects to help solve puzzles and create new ways to overcome obstacles, the Thief uses her agility and dead-on accuracy to swiftly surprise the monsters, and the Knight unleashes mayhem and physical destruction wherever he goes.

This review is for both Trine and Trine 2. Still haven't gotten to play Trine 3 yet.

Trine is platformer puzzle game with some action combat to destroy walls, enemies and terrains. There are 3 characters that can be played and will be free to switch around when playing in single player. While in co-op, each control a character up to a max of 3 players and are free to switch character if both party agree. Each character has their own special abilities and are required to change character to cross the level.

I've played the game in co-op for both Trine and Trine 2. Co-op is really fun with the psyhics and there will be alot of laughter when playing it with friends. There are some very minor glitch but nothing really gameplay affecting.

Trine in co-op is about 6 hours of gameplay time, without rushing anything and getting all the exp.
Trine 2 in co-op is about 6-8 hours of gameplay time, depending on how many times you died fighting the boss or getting out of the body of the monster that ate you.
All played in hard difficulty.

It's a really fun game to play with friends and really helps to build your teamwork in co-op. I would recommend waiting for the game to be on sale before buying it unless you really can't wait. While it's on sale, it will be around a dollars so it's worth getting it when's it's really cheap. Otherwise, the price is still abit high.

Gorgeous game with tons of charm in basically everything you see and hear. Controlling and upgrading all three characters offers so much diversity and allows you to play whichever way you want. Secrets made exploration very fun and rewarding. Overall probably the best gaming experience I have had with a platformer in a long time.

This game might not be the first with the concept of you controlling three characters with different abilities at once, but it succeeds greatly by using this feature. Most of the game (if not all) could be done with either of those characters but that would be a real challenge (and could've worked well for an achievement).

It took me less than 11 hours to complete the game with all achievements on hardest difficulty (not hardcore mode, because that didn't sound like much fun), so it falls a bit short on actual playtime. Nonetheless, I had a lot of fun these hours! The visuals are amazingly beautiful and the dialogs between the characters are quite fun.

There are also some small annoyances. Some menus (including the start screen if you don't know how the game works) rely on using the mouse instead of a controller. Some menus only sometimes work with the controller, which was really confusing. The gameplay feels sometimes a bit clunky, especially when you try to not fight extremely save with the warrior.

Still, it's a great game and I really anticipate playing the sequels.

Trine is a pretty fun easy going game, the visuals are really nice and the music isn't half bad either. The story, while it's not the best, it sure can pull someone in if it's their sort of thing. Though if you're going to buy this game, buy the second and third with it.

REVIEW
Trine is a light game that is easy to digest but offers gripping visuals, a mystical atmosphere, and enticing gameplay. All of the features of the game are simple in design but intricate in execution. The gameplay, aesthetics, and narrative all come together to create a whimsical and charming adventure. I highly recommend this for all gamers to consider; and for fans of the genre it is a sure bet.

By far the best aspects of the game are the stunning visuals and alluring atmospheric presentation of the setting. Each and every environment you explore is diverse, captivating, and charming. The ambiance really captures the mystical aura of the game perfectly. Trine easily has one of the most immersive 2D gameworlds I have encountered in video games.

The gameplay is light and quick to grasp. Anyone should be able to dive right in, regardless of ability level. But various difficulty levels and a "hardcore" mode ensure that skilled players can still find a challenge. And whether you are playing on “easy” or “hardcore,” the gameplay is entertaining. Mixing elements of platforming, action, and puzzle solving with the unique identity of the game establishes an experience that is simultaneously familiar and novel— and irrefutably fun.

The story is whimsical and fantastic; and the characters are pleasant and endearing. This synergizes well with the aforementioned atmosphere to establish an amusing fantasy experience. But it also remains light and relaxed, and never takes itself too seriously. So even casual fans of fantasy will enjoy the narrative.

Trine is definitely a worthy pick-up. No matter what your standard preferences are, you should give this game some consideration. Check it out.

Addendum: The game was upgraded to a better engine and to add online coop. The new cooperative mode adds an extra layer of possibilities, as the unique gameplay is a joy to experience with friends.

Fun co-op game where you and 2 of your friends each control 1 of 3 characters and you must work together to complete the level. I recommend getting this if you're looking for a fun game to play with a couple friends.

Very interesting and fun game to play around with. It can sometimes be frustrating but equally rewarding when you eventually figure out the way to get over that part of the map. Nonetheless, a fun "puzzle-game" that also relies on your reflexes from time-to-time.

Trine: Enchanted Edition

Trine is a little gem of a casual game that any player worth their controller should play. It's a nice break from more demanding games, and at this price it's a no-brainer.

Pros:
  • Bustling backgrounds and beautiful visuals straight out of a fairy-tale;
  • Fun, accessible physics-based puzzles;
  • Innovative game mechanics encourage creativity;
  • Progression allows for freedom in play-style;
  • Great soundtrack, sound effects, and VO;
  • Simple story, combat and upgrades system suit the casual aim of the game;
  • Improved multiplayer and added mid-level saving compared to original;
  • Steam Workshop makes for some cool bonus levels.

Cons:
  • Not a lot of enemy diversity;
  • Uninspired collectibles;
  • Disappointing boss fights;
  • Over too soon.
