ABOUT SHADWEN

Shadwen is a stealth-action game where the only rule is to remain unseen. Stay hidden – or the ruthless guards will kill you on sight!

Shadwen, an assassin on a quest to kill the king, has a chance encounter with an orphaned girl, Lily. She follows Shadwen on her dangerous journey, but when the ruthless guards get too close, Shadwen must take action right in front of Lily’s eyes.

Will Shadwen risk the girl’s budding trust by resorting to violence, or try and find another way while keeping her real purpose concealed?

To kill or not to kill – that is the question.

FEATURES
  • MOVE FREELY – Sneak and explore around the dark and gritty medieval province and use the environment to your advantage – use your rope to grapple onto rooftops, silently drop down from ceilings, or veil yourself in the shadows.
  • STAY HIDDEN – Pick your assassinations carefully. Avoid being seen, heard or getting caught indirectly. Suspicious sights and noises will alert the guards – use it to your benefit!
  • TIME IS AN ACCOMPLICE – Time stands still when you are not moving Shadwen, allowing you to stop at any point mid-motion. Rewind time to manipulate your past and present actions!
  • USE PHYSICS – Use physics and a freely attachable rope to drag and topple objects. Make deaths look accidental; let gravity do the grave work.
  • CREATE TRAPS AND HAZARDS – Set up traps and hazards to lure guards towards their untimely demise; discover new ways to eliminate or distract your foes by crafting items into deadly surprises, including poison traps, spike devices, decoy toys and more.
  • TWO CHARACTERS – Embrace the darkness with Shadwen and her abilities to protect Lily and create a safe passage for her.

Winner, Best Downloadable Game by GameSpot's E3 Editors' Choice Awards

"Apart from the beautiful graphics, what made the game stand out was just how spot-on everything was--whether it was the controls, the interactions between the three characters, or the puzzle-solving mechanics, it's clear the developers spent a lot of time refining the gameplay." full review

Sobre este jogo

Trine is a fantasy action game where the player can create and use physics-based objects to beat hazardous puzzles and threatening enemies. Set in a world of great castles and strange machinery, three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil.

The gameplay is based on fully interactive physics - each character's different abilities help the player battle an army of undead and defeat hazardous contraptions. The player can at any time freely choose whoever is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle: The Wizard is able to summon objects to help solve puzzles and create new ways to overcome obstacles, the Thief uses her agility and dead-on accuracy to swiftly surprise the monsters, and the Knight unleashes mayhem and physical destruction wherever he goes.

I don't normally play or like platform games but decided to give this one a try, and it was the most spectacular and fun platform game I've ever played.

Well made in every aspect and I can't believe it is 7 years old.
Ran it with all eye candy on a GTX 970 and it was glorious to behold.
Even by today's standard it was graphically fantastic!

Warmly recommended for the casual player.

I played Trine 2 first and was maybe spoiled by that game. Trine 2 is gorgeous, one of the best 2D with 3D elements games ever. This is a great game too, but not near Trine 2.

Got this game discounted, and I don't regret it.

(Note): Since I play the game Team Fortress 2, I couldn't help myself but to call the wizard Merasmus (the wizard in Tf2) for the entire game.

1000000000000/10 would play game with relations again

Definitivamente um Must Buy!

While 2D action adventure games have all but disappeared from retail, the genre is very much alive on digital distribution platforms like PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and PC. Trine is the latest of these neo-classic games and it's an impressive, modernized take on the sort of effort that dominated through the 16-bit era. It does feel a little unfinished, as though the developers ran out of money or were pressured to get the game out the door. Still, Trine is a lot of fun and definitely worth playing.

Gamers have control of three unique characters: a thief, a wizard, and a knight. Each has their own abilities they can use to traverse the game's environments and dispatch of enemies. The thief wields a bow and arrow and can grapple to wooden surfaces. The wizard can move objects with his mind and summon blocks or bridges. And the knight is the fighter of the group, best used for hacking through the undead army plaguing the world. The thief and knight give players the choice to use ranged or melee combat, and both can be equally effective. A typical example of the sort of puzzles the trio will encounter would be a seemingly impassable chasm -- the thief could use her grappling hook to swing across or the wizard could summon a plank and stroll to the other side.

Most predicaments can be solved in multiple ways and you could make it though most of the game with just the thief or the wizard (the knight is really only useful in combat). There are instances, though, where you'll have to use multiple characters in tandem to proceed. The wizard might be able to get a hanging block swinging from side to side. The thief can then grapple to it, and the block's momentum will allow her to jump to a previously unreachable area.

Our heroes' goal is to free themselves from the curse that has bound them together and rid the land of the usual evil that has consumed it. Along the way they'll solve puzzles, kill lots of skeletons, and earn experience points that can be spent to gain new skills. A lot of the green vials that contain precious experience points are hidden, so there are many secrets to be found for players that want to put in the effort.

If you're playing Trine by yourself the three characters inhabit one body and you can switch between them on the fly. They each have independent health and magic meters, and if one perishes you'll have to get by with whoever's left until you reach the next checkpoint. The game can also be played by three people cooperatively, with each controlling one of our heroes, but this completely changes the experience. When playing by yourself, you only have to worry about getting one body past an obstacle. In multiplayer, each person needs to figure out how to get their character from point A to point B, making the game more difficult and stretching every little challenge out. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but other inconveniences get in the way of making multiplayer an optimal experience. The camera will let players wander off screen, for instance, where they can be killed by who knows what and that person will have to sit around until the other players find the next checkpoint.

Trine is a physics-based puzzle platformer, meaning the game's objects and characters are governed by the laws of gravity and react realistically to each other and their environment. There are lots of subtle details and nuances to be seen here. Arrows can slip through cracks in wooden planks. The thief can aim her bow in 360 degrees, as can the knight with his shield. This allows for precision aiming with the thief, and requires you to direct your blocks with the knight.

Man oh man, this is one good-looking game. Set in a medieval fantasy world, developer Frozenbyte has crafted dense, extravagant scenes that scroll by as you work through the adventure. Although players can only move on a 2D plane, the world is rendered in 3D and the camera will zoom in and out for cinematic effect. The renaissance music is also very well done, with catchy tunes arranged in a lush orchestral score. A narrator and the heroes are brought to life by talented voice actors.

My favorite thing about Trine is that there is something new to discover around every corner. From beautiful vistas to interesting new game mechanics, the developers always seem to have another trick up their sleeve. There are just a couple aspects that seem phoned in. It could have used a greater variety of enemies, for one. Save for a few bats and spiders, you'll spend the entire game fighting skeletons. Spawn points warp skeleton after skeleton into the world, which always feels like a rather cheap and obnoxious mechanic. There are just two boss types that are reused multiple times: a giant skeleton, and some sort of beast with a turtle shell that is a pushover. Finally, your fight with the end boss will be quite anticlimactic, and there isn't much reason to return after you've completed the story.

The Verdict:

Trine is great fun in single-player and it's worth experimenting with the three-player co-op even if the game works best as a solo experience. Players are given a set of tools (three characters with unique abilities) and are presented with problems that can be solved in several ways, resulting in an adventure that feels wide open despite being relegated to a mere two dimensions. The beautiful visuals and sound bring this world to life and there is something new to discover around every corner. A lack of enemy variety, disappointing conclusion, and the wonky multiplayer keep Trine from greatness, but this is still a highly recommended puzzle platformer.

This game might not be the first with the concept of you controlling three characters with different abilities at once, but it succeeds greatly by using this feature. Most of the game (if not all) could be done with either of those characters but that would be a real challenge (and could've worked well for an achievement).

It took me less than 11 hours to complete the game with all achievements on hardest difficulty (not hardcore mode, because that didn't sound like much fun), so it falls a bit short on actual playtime. Nonetheless, I had a lot of fun these hours! The visuals are amazingly beautiful and the dialogs between the characters are quite fun.

There are also some small annoyances. Some menus (including the start screen if you don't know how the game works) rely on using the mouse instead of a controller. Some menus only sometimes work with the controller, which was really confusing. The gameplay feels sometimes a bit clunky, especially when you try to not fight extremely save with the warrior.

Still, it's a great game and I really anticipate playing the sequels.
