This is a cute experience about a little girl who gains Daredevil senses from going blind (she's obviously using some form of echolocation) but is still afraid of everything.

It's quite beautiful, and always fun to watch things paint in, especially if they weren't what you were expecting.

Hints for enjoying it:
- Do not play it like a normal game. If the game gives you a path, follow the path as long as you can and don't explore. Rae moves too slowly for exhaustive exploration except in the first area. There are some achievements you can get by exploring, but this is another case of achievements ruining your experience.
- When you see cyan swirls, press the action button! This is your only way to progress.

= THIS GAME IS REALLY FLAKY WITH CONTROLLERS =

I left an earlier bad review for it because I thought Rae constantly going in circles was a feature - no, it was just a bug. That seems to have been fixed, but it randomly decides it can't see my XBox controller when I start, takes a reboot. So if your controls aren't working, just reboot the pc.

It's not really a game, more of a visual novel. Moving around is very slow. Story is not amazing, but it's okay. It's short. The concept of a blind person "seeing" the world is visually great.

I recommend getting it on sale for a price similar to a movie ticket.

This is a one time adventure, but dont get me wrong, is the kind of adventure which you looking for when you are out there hunting for something special but in a particular way, the story is well paced and the game talks by his own.

This game is definitely interesting to play.
The gameplay is new, discovering the world with the sounds and smells is an original concept.
Plus the graphics are really pretty.

Only bad point is the movements of the girl is so slow, that you have to be patient with this game.

But if you are looking for something new to play, this is worth trying !

Definitly a game for the patient explorer - slow paced, more focused on the expirienced. Beautiful artwork, fantastic soundtrack, neat story. It's a little too short, though.

Beyond Eyes is an underrated game. In my opinion it does not deserve its recent “Mixed reviews” rating. This game feels unique and it certainly is very beautiful.

Our protagonist is a blind girl named Rae who is searching for her missing cat. The main twist of the game is the way the world is presented. You unveil the surroundings only when you get really close. What you see on the screen is what Rae imagines when she hears, smells and feels everything around her. Objects may change form when you get closer because it may sound like something else from the distance. Rain muffles all the sounds and makes navigation difficult.

Beyond Eyes is a “walking simulator” and not everyone is a fan of this genre. Walking and occasional object interaction is all you do. There is no dialog, inventory or fights. No running or jumping either.

The majority of negative reviews complain about:
  1. The game being too short. Yes, it is about 2 hours long (you can squeeze 3-5 out of it if you hunt achievements). Not all the games are meant to be long. I think it’s a perfect length for this kind of game. Took me personally a little over 4 hours to get to 100%.
  2. The character is too slow and cannot run. Well, she is a blind girl, so… duh.
  3. Achievements are easy to miss and require a lot of walking around. Achievements actually encourage exploration? I am okay with that.
  4. Price is too high. That’s a valid point and I agree that $15 is too much for this game. Just wait for a proper sale. It’s still a good game. I’d pay $5 for it easily. At the time of this writing the game is on sale for $3.74.

Overall a very lovely game. If you don’t mind a slow paced relaxing gameplay, don’t skip this one.

Beautiful art style and a nice story of a girl trying to find her feline friend. The gameplay however is quite clunky and veeeeery slow. The story only last for 1 hour - 2 hours tops and because of this i would recommend buying it in a sale.

Beyond Eyes is an Adventure game set in a small rural town.

You are Rae, you became blind after an accident and now you sit alone on your garden all day, since you can't go out and play with other children anymore, but one day, a little cat pays you a visit, the cat keeps coming and you decide to name it Nani. But just like Nani appeared, it stopped coming. Then, you decide to look for it. But, is it safe for a little blind girl to go outside? What might be out there? Why did Nani stop coming?

Since you're blind, you see the world as you approach it and imagine how it would look like, sometimes you're right, some others wrong, also, you walk slowly, sorry DareDevil, not everybody can do it just like you do. Depending on how you feel, the world around you changes to reflect just that. This is a beautiful game, but is not a game for everyone, you have to be very patient and enjoy walking and exploring, otherwise, I'd say its not for you.

This is a perfect example of an idea that was too big for the team that came up with it. It's a great idea: a game from the perspective of a blind girl, where most of the world is white and is revealed as she hears noises and explores. But the execution is extremely lacking. The game has a small handful of interesting mechanics, but even the best of them never live up to their potential. So much more could have been done with the idea of seeing what she's imagining, then discovering what it really is. More could have been done with the way she interacted with the world around her; how cool would it have been if instead of just revealing the environment in a perfect orb around her by merely walking around, you had to reach out and touch things, or actively use sound?

And even when you're being pleasantly surprised by what the game does right, you're bored to tears by its most basic goal: walking around and slowly, SLOWLY revealing things at a snail's pace. It's very obvious that the developers came up with the premise, planted a few small things to do then stretched the whole thing as far as they could. I mean seriously, you move at an absolute crawl with no option to move faster, 90% of your time AT LEAST is spent simply walking and trying to find your way through the story path, and still the game is something like two hours long.

Overall just a disappointing experience that I can't even recommend for the tidbits that I mildly enjoyed. The concept is a great one, but someone else with a bigger budget and/or more creativity needs to have a go at it.

I really want to recommend this game, but there are a few things about it that are sub-par.

Pros
+Amazing Atmosphere, I think they did a great job of showing the player what it would be like to be blind.
+Visuals are good, the water colored scenery fits really well with the story.
+The music does a great job of setting the tone

Cons
-The character is very slow, which most of the time is fine, it fits with the story and character, but becomes excruciating if you go the wrong way or in some levels have to double back.
-Too short in my opinion for a $15 game, it only took me about 2 hours to finish the story and nothing extra is opened up by doing so(at least not that I am aware of)
-There are 10 achievements for this game, one of which is for completing the game. The others, however, are hidden achievements and the lack of mobility does not make me want to go back in and explore every corner of the game to attempt to unlock the remaining 9 achievements.

Despite my griping, I really like this game, but it isn't something that I can recommend someone pay $15 for, it just isn't worth it. Buy it on sale if you are really interested.

Pros: Incredibly beautiful game. Like walking through a water color painting that's being drawn.

Cons: Everything else that I would put down to poor design decisions by developers.

It's a pretty lame story, but I don't down-rate for bad stories. Basically, you play a blind girl walking around to find a cat she used to play with that has disappeared.

The world around is a blank canvas that gets colored in as you walk around. There are some cool effects where things get painted when you're further away, like if there is a sound from afar, such as a bell ringing or a babbling brook. Sometimes the girl will hear something and think it's one thing, only to find it is another as she walks closer -- like misinterpreting the sound of a lawn mower for a car.

Anyway, the primary negative aspect of the game that cannot be ignored and ruins the game:

The girl moves sooooo sloooooowlyyyy ...
Yeah, I get that she's blind and cannot be sprinting all over the place like Daredevil, but the pace is ridiculously slow. This is a game, not real life, so the developers could have done a better job managing the balance.

They could have given her a walking stick, which could provide justification for a faster pace. What blind girl walks around aimlessly in new territory without a walking stick? Instead, the poor thing is constantly walking into walls and fences.

The issue of pace is worsened when you need to find a path or backtrack ... the whole thing because incredibly tedious, and I exaggerate you not when I say I started to get headaches the last two times playing this.

I checked other reviews to see how long it takes to complete. A couple of reviews said it takes about two hours. If I was close, I might have finished, but I was at a point where I wanted to throw my controller through the window. I had already played one hour, and another hour may not seem like a lot, but that one hour felt like weeks. Basically, the experience of this game is the OPPOSITE of time flying.

Graphics: 8/10
Gameplay: 0/10

I was fortunate to be gifted this game by a friend. To anyone with this game on your wishlist, I would strongly advise removing it unless you like games that most other people would consider tedious. Not just boring but incredibly, painfully tedious.

I picked this game up at a sale for about 3.25€.

It took me just over two hours to finish and I enjoyed every second of it. The game is very atmospheric, with nice music and beautiful graphics. There isn't much interaction with the world and the story is very simple, but cute.

What this game does best, is make your mind wander. It makes you think about the simple things in life and how lucky you are to have them. I believe this was the main goal of this game and in this it succeeds perfectly.

There's a very beautiful game here, but you'll also have to put up with a very tedious pace. I didn't mind it for the most part, but it does get annoying at times.

YES it is a "walking sim". But it is a unique take on it, given the main girls disability. It is unique, pretty and very emotional. If you seek one of those "experiences" the press keeps going on about then this is for you. Something only a game could pull off.
