Arena shooter school project.

Imagine a sphere half filled with fog. Imagine that this is the only level. Imagine collectibles hidden in the fog. Imagine a fighter model whose point of rotation is not on the fighter, but on the follow cam. Imagine gamepad support that omits to support moving the camera with the right stick. Imagine a white HUD in a game that is mostly fog. Imagine a game that won't work if you access the settings screen. Imagine a complete lack of players on a multiplayer game.

Have you imagined all this? Fine, then that saves you installing this embarassment of a game.

Pirates Deck has the dubious honor of being one of the few scams that no one bought or even played comfortably sitting at 0 total players until it got into a bundle yesterday: the fact not even the "creator" of this "thing" fired it up once says alot.
This is basically a scam with no redeeming qualities whatsoever sold as a full game to try and get money from careless buyers: onwards to the actual review.

-thankfully no one fell for this scam

-the fact whoever created this was too lazy to even add trading cards means they won't see any money from them

-if you run the executable from the game folder it'll come up as "Spacewar" in your game profile, I don't know if it's bad coding or if it actually contains pirated assets but have contacted Support on the issue

-horrible graphics where jagged edges, washed out colours, ugly textures and a weird blur abound even on Ultra quality: menu graphics are below amateurish

-bad controls, you can't rotate your ship and flying around is awkward not to mention nausea inducing

-dull gameplay, you're supposed to fly around and gather trophies for points until you have enough to interact with an object in the middle of the map and you lose points whenever you die: even if it worked it'd be bad

-only one map and it'd be way too small for MP if people actually played in it

-supports a controller, too bad you can't change direction when you fly, so it's basically useless to try and play with one

-bad weapon design as they all look the same and one even shoots so slowly that, if you fire while moving, you'll zip past your shots (see screenshot) : I can only imagine how horrible it'd be to try and hit a moving target

-technically a mess, it'll often freeze when you try to start a match or refuse to open the options menu when you click on it: I also found no way to make it go fullscreen

The fact the actual game executable shows up as "Pirated_Pirate_MP_Promo" clearly shows this was just something thrown together in a few minutes to try and scam people: a cursory look at reviews and forums also reveals whoever is behind this actually had a completely different game greenlit before putting this mess in the store, clearly showing a willingness to cheat prospective buyers.

You won't be suprised by the negative review, this "thing" is not worth your time or hard disk space and, even for free in the bundle, it's just good for laughing at how bad everything is and at the fact someone thought people would spend money on it. I'm honestly surprised Steam hasn't pulled it.

A buggy mess of a game
If you can get past the main menu you will experience awful controls, very simplistic gameplay, and only one very small map that is half-full of fog....

Perhaps it's more fun with people, but currently I don't even believe it's possible to play with others...

[IMPORTANT] The Developer has since removed the game reviewed, and replaced it with a completely different game. I feel like Valve needs to look into this. I will review the "new" game below

Update Currently there is no game data to be found, and no download for this game. When trying to download it installs a 0byte file, and when you click play it says "failed to start missing executable

Update2 The developer has stated this as his excuse:
Seriously for a begginer and single developer it is really hard...I am in learning phase of development.......and learning from mistakes......
Personally, I'm more upset at Steam for allowing a beginner to be allowed to sell an unfinished product, it's not really his fault.

I actually installed this JUST to review it because people deserve to be warned!

Another wonderful scam brought to you by another wannabe dev. The game was greenlight as a Tower Defence game but apparently the dev didn't care so he released this broken pos space shooter instead , completely abusing and exploiting Greenlight.

The game is an abomination. Almost unplayable and broken in its controls. There is nothing to do in it. Its nothing but 1 stage in a dome about 100 yds across. Total scam. Avoid at all costs. And report it to Valve so it is rightfully removed.

This game is unplayable and bad, funny how his has the Massively Multiplayer tag.

The video on store page is the entire game, nobody playing and even if there were the field is too limited to play many people,

Controls very poor, using the setting menu makes you unable to play the game.

Not even sure why this is named Pirates Deck.

Product received for free
Boats fly on land, planes can't fly, and a level around the middle is impossible. There's no strategy to this, and even though I got it for free, I paid too much.

Literally the whole game is placing and upgrading rockets.

A poorly designed tower defense game.

  • There's no actual strategy involved
  • Too difficult.
  • No keyboard control at all.
  • Cannot sell upgraded gun towers.
  • No fullscreen (you can maximize the window to get bars, but that's it)
  • Can't click towers to sell/upgrade them (need to drag the upgrade/sell buttons onto the towers, wtf?)
  • No speed control (booooring)
  • No pause (not even when you go to the menu)
  • For some reason, game uses 4 processes on the computer instead of 1. Wat. -> this probably has something to do with the game being a nodejs application (it uses nw.js, the nw.pak and package.nw files are a dead giveaway).
  • package.nw (can be opened with standard archive tool such as 7zip) contains files that I haven't seen used anywhere, such as some boat sprites, upgrade costs, range/speed/etc buttons.
  • Not sure, but I don't think it's likely (or even possible) to get a score below 3 stars unless you're not paying attention--either you get an easy 3 star win or it's too hard and you just lose. By the time you manage to create new towers, it's too late for them to destroy anything.
    - Exception: You can "win" the first level without placing any towers at all and 1 life remaining. You get 1 flashing star.
  • Boats float over land
  • Airplanes get stuck when there's a tower in their way
  • The game uses some kind of cd-key, but you have to turn off the overlay because the game's too buggy to let you open the overlay and dismiss the key message so you can see the game controls hidden behind it. (the sell/upgrade controls are down at the bottom right)
  • Only 3 kinds of towers, wat? Even the most basic flash games usually have at least 4 types right from the beginning.
  • Ugly low-resolution graphics. The backgrounds are blurry. The background PNG files are only 500x316px, and get stretched to whatever size your window is.
  • Towers shoot at enemies that are offscreen
    - One of the maps requires placing towers at the bottom of the screen. Most enemies attacking from that location are destroyed before you can even see them.
  • The enemies don't match (ie, the boats are all wood, but the aircraft look sorta alien)
  • Wave counter is meaningless. (see screenshot)
  • There's a giant skull shape at the middle bottom of the UI that looks like a button. It doesn't do anything. (see screenshot)
  • Onscreen text is poorly placed; the money counter isn't centered vertically, and the wave counter text overlaps. Nothing is centered horizontally to its container--it appears to be using fixed-width containers placed in specific locations, with text aligned inside those.

Simply put this is a cash grab game....

Seriously go find the worst browser TD game in your browser, it will still be better then this one.

First of all the menu is the campaign map... which is like wtf!

Second of all when you get into the game, there are no tooltip or guides on how this game works.
Apperently you have to drag ♥♥♥♥... you even have to drag the upgrade and sell button.
The dveloper had a funny idea of making the upgrade cost insible, so you don't know whatt or when you can upgrade.
You simple drag the box and try your luck.

Now to the real big problems.
The enemy ships can hit your base and you won't lose any hp (atleast in the first map), even though you have 20 hearts.

Now for the waves.
The first map has 3 waves, it keeps going 0/3 unless you press start, but still spawns ships.
Now after you press start button it keeps sending waves, but the fun part is, that it doesn't stop at 3 waves it keep going on forever.

I quiet the game after i reach wave 20 out of 3.

Avoid this game at any cost.

Like so many others, I must say reviews should have an option beyond "Recommend: Yes/No"

As others have pointed out, the game has serious issues.

Flying ships struggle to move around land when they should just fly over it (Unintentionally hilarious when one craft is struggling to move around land and is rammed by another craft causing both to explode) and most/all boats can apparently fly (Not hilarious at all as they bypass the land and fly over your defenses to destroy your home base in large swarms).

The "flying boats" almost feel intentional when I noted the 4th map has a base that is completely surrounded by land. How can a land-only base be threatened by boats? Well, by "flying boats" apparently...

Smoke plumes sprout out of explosions that go off in odd, illogical directions. The drag-and-drop method of upgrading works fine before a fight, but works very much against you during active warfare (your visibility is obscured and sometimes the upgrade doesn't "take").

Hitting ESC is apparently supposed to pause the game but it doesn't (You see Resume/Quit options on-screen, but everything continues on in the background).

Basically, this feels like an unfinished, over priced phone game. Even if everything were working fine, $4 is just too much for something this basic. If the price drops to $2 or less and the programmer addresses the glitches, it would work as an OK little time-waster.

Thumbs up only because the programmer is actually trying to address the issues after taking a beat-down in the reviews...
