Batman: Arkham Asylum is absoloutly fantastic; I will be honest and it is one of the greatest superhero games i've ever played. Straight after playing this game i wanted more and I jumped straight into Arkham City which was also a great blast. The combat in the game is fantastic; the variety of different villains are great and the voice acting for each character was superb. The only one downside is that I couldn't explore more of Gotham, however open world is implemented into the second game so it can be forgiven.

I will add, I reccomend you have a somewhat decent computer because when I played the game I found I lagged a lot of the time, however despite the annoyance it didn't stop my enjoyment of the game :)

Batman: Arkham Asylum is developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Warner Bros. At first, I am not a huge fan of Batman or pretty much I am not a fan of comic books. Surprisingly, this is the Batman game that met its expectations for fans and comic book alike. The game sets in Arkham Asylum, playing as Bruce Wayne or Batman (state the obvious). The story starts where Batman is taking and apprehending Joker to the Asylum, causing it was a setup and controlling the asylum by Joker. I am not going to tell you much about the story, it's better to play the game to know about the story. Trust me, it's such a great Batman game to start with. The combat system is based on combo, score multipliers, dodges and counter attacks. There are gadgets to tackle obstacles throughout the story. You can upgrade your abilities by leveling up. Collectables all over the map (Riddler's Trophy, scarab wall and searching the answer for Riddler's challenge), like the backstory of Arkham Asylum, the interview tapes, the concept art and character bios to learn about their orginality.

+ Pros
+ Rich storyline
+ Characters are obviously likeable
+ Voice acting and musical score
+ Freedom Open World (Kind of)
+ Atmosphere and graphics of the game
+ Combat system
+ Extras or Collectables

- Cons
- Controls for Keyboard and Mouse are confusingly tricky

The verdict for this game's honest review is a must buy, like come on buy this game and you will love it every second, even if you are not a fan of Batman like myself. The story, the atmosphere, the voice acting, combat system and unlockables. You can find all of the extras after you finished the game and play some challenges. I don't find any game's technical flaws (unless I am a blind bat or not paying attention to details). I definitely recommend this game, just go buy the game.

Said from someone who is not a huge fan of Batman, I enjoyed this game in a way I couldn't even imagine.

First because there are no side missions. Damn I hate side missions.
Second for the landscape. The environment is well detailed and grows up with you during the gameplay.
Third of course for the story, neither too long nor short, just exact as this game is meant to be.

Well, I'd have preferred a less thin Joker, ♥♥♥♥ man it's just walking bones!
The combat system is not among my favourite, but it is in line with Batman's style: no kills.

This game is worth every cent.

Even when its first from Arkham Series with lowest content its still worth of playing due its atmosphere, environment, Scarecrow and a bit different, yet slower, combat system.

Batman Arkhan Asylum GOTY

Even tough this is not my favorite game style, it is remarkably one of the best designed games ever. In other words, I surely give a score of 10 out 10 for every development cathegory as follows:

MOVEMENT MECHANICS / CONTROLS: solid and easy to control

GAMEPLAY MECHANICS: combat, camera position, skills, flight controls, gadgets, everything works well.

The only negative part of the game is the amount of Ridle's thropies that is a way too many. I had enough trying to get as many as could get. Of course, it is not mandatory and do not affect overall storyline progress.

While Batman Arkham Asylum lacks many of the gameplay improvements and larger environments that later games in the series introduced, its linear design and single story thread offer something that later games in the series lost over time: focus. Arkham Asylum is a dense and highly detailed setting that is ripe for exploration. Tucked away everywhere are mysterious hidden rooms and passages which contain references to the Dark Knight's history and offer the player alluring tales about the dark secrets hidden within the asylum.

The game's general art and character designs are also more true to the comic books' outlandish and extravagant art than previous games in the series are, as they opted for more gritty and realistic designs. This gives the game an exciting and somewhat fantastical tone that highly effective in making you want to progress through the plot, which itself is a highly well written and performed tale, that will hold your attention throughout the duration of the game.

Neither the freeflow combat nor the predator encounter systems are as tight or varied as they are in later titles, but that isn't to say they're dull. They are both still rock solid in their handling and execution, and form the backbone to what I believe are, to this day, the game's strongest gameplay feature: its boss battles. In comparison to other games in the series, Arkham Asylum's boss battles are grand and have a sense of immense scale. Many of the bosses themselves are presented as gigantic titans which need to be brought down in some amazing manner, thus making the task of doing so a tense and highly rewarding experience. Other games, with maybe the exception of Arkham City, largely abandoned this style of boss fight making Arkham Asylum's maybe the best in the series.

So while Arkham Asylum may not feature all the great gameplay advances achieved in later games, the manner in which it progresses in such a highly focused way, in terms of both its world and story, insures that players will have a superb gaming experience.

This is actually my favorite of the Arkham games. I feel like Arkham City lost a little of the charm this one had, even if AC is bigger/longer.

Even so many years after its release, it looks and plays GREAT. Finished it back in its day and recently (2016) got my 100% again via Steam. One of the most solid, round and complete experiences in gaming. Great storyline, graphics, gameplay and a PERFECT number of unlockables and challenges (not too few, not too many) to keep you coming back.
