Too short and full of stupid mini games.
Crime and punishment is much better.

This is my personal review of the game:

This game has interesting puzzles and gameplay mechanics that challenges your puzzle solving and deductive skills. Sure... Sherlock Holmes may be off his character just a tad... BUT, this game have minigames that are actually fun. Basically, if you are looking for REAL CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, PLOT-TWISTING STORIES and MIND-BLOWING ADVENTURES, you are looking at the wrong game. But if you want to experience CRIME SOLVING ACTIVITES by your own, this is the game for you.

I rate this game 10/10 no character development.

Frogwares have made a long list of outstanding Sherlock Holmes adventure games. Their games are commendable because of the attention to detail, great historical accuracy and the puzzles that made you feel like the 'real' Sherlock that occurred in them. However, with their latest game, The Devil's Daughter everything went pear shaped. Not only are the puzzles so easy it's almost an insult to true adventurers, the game is now riddles with unskippable stealth sequences and other dexterity test that many adventure gamers hate so much. I played The Devil's Daughter for three hours, and after having had a very hard time playing as Willikins when I had to follow a certain gentleman (which sequence looked more like a movie scene than a true to life part of a Sherlock Holmes story), I was shot in Epping Forest plying as Sherlock Holmes. That was enough for me. I uninstalled the game.
I really wonder what Frogwares was thinking while they were making this game because they totally disregarded their audience. And it's such a pity because graphically it looks fantastic! But the presence of the dexterity tests combined with a story that makes Mr. Conan Doyle turn around in his grave (Sherlock is a father? What???) ruin this game for many of them.

Once again, Frogwares has done a trumendous job with encompassing Sherlock Holmes. I've played all of their games and sat here wondering if they'd ever refer back to The Testament of Sherlock Holmes. Boy, I wasn't disappointed!

The game proves to be a very intense, jam-packed adventure where you're never holding still. The use of shall we say "mini games" in each case is also quite new and great to see. Very Holmes-esque, if I must say so myself. I also like how the deductions bring forth more of a sense of morality rather than "Who did it?"

Of course, some may complain that Holmes would never care about anyone like his daughter. The man has heart, guys. He's human like you and I. I personally think Frogwares did good on that concept.

I highly recommend anyone play this. You won't be disappointed.

I played the last 3 games and loved them all. I am still playing this one, and it is very good in my opinion. I do think Crimes and Punishment is hard to beat, but the graphics and story are very good to me. I am enjoying it like always. It sucks a lot of people aren't enjoying this game recently. I always enjoy these games though I happen to enjoy the mini games and all the quick time events personally. Makes me feel like my brain is getting a little excercise since most of this game is pretty simple with elements of point a click games have, but it is more then that. I think this game is well done and highly recommend it. As well as the two before this one. I can't speak for the ones before those though, but I am sure they are great.

Worth buying if you enjoyed Crime and Punishment on sale for no more than $30. I cringe that Sherlock is a father with a hideous ugly looking daugther. If you played GTA's and enjoyed them, than the action scences aren't that bad.

I cant bring myself to finish this game. Its boring and there are too many action sequences which is an insult to the sherlock holmes name. It would be different if these action sequences weren't "click here to move and avoid this" but thats exactly what they are. Sherlock isnt about action, it is about solving cases and finding clues not fighting people like a buffoon (as i imagine sherlock would say). I really wanted to love this game as i am a huge sherlock holmes fan but i just couldnt bring myself to like it. ATM if you love action oriented games then maybe you should pick this up (a bad action oriented game at that) but to everyone else just get sherlock holmes crimes and punishments if you want a detective game. That game is the REAL sherlock game and if you can put up with the dated graphics and engine you have a true detective gem.

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter

First of all i did not played any of the previous SH installments - the game is similar to Murdered: Soul Suspect ( so if you liked that , you'll like this one to ) - i only resolved the first case and i found it engrossing with plenty of clues to find and put in order and some on rail action sequences ( solid gameplay mechanics in my opinion ) - i didn't found the mini games that the reviewers spoke tiresome or bothering !

- what i loved the most is the city atmosphere ( feels alive ) and attention to detail - i just walked aimlessly exploring the streets and listening to the sounds ( outside of the mission parameters ) - highly recommended 10/10 !

Honestly, i dont know what all the fuss is about. This game, in my opinion, more than lived up to the legacy of Crimes and Punishments. Yes, there was many mini games, but i personally found these fun and inventive. In addition to the normal Crimes and Punishements gameplay (solving cases and deciding who did it based on the evidence) there was the intrudction of more action. Which i found quite refreshing.

All in all i think this was a great game, and deserves a few DLC's

I really want to enjoy this game but it is hard. The amount of ridicilous mini-games is mind-boggling, luckily most of them are skippable.

There are a few precious moments so far that do feel like Sherlock Holmes, they are unfortunately overshadowed by throwing rocks on a window-minigame, balancing over branches-minigames, barfighting-minigames etc etc.

After 6.5 hours of gaming I can't recommend this.

Edit: Soon after writing this review I finished the game and I was even more disappointed. So short and so very few real cases.

Worst Sherlock game I've played.

The game could have been better. I was hoping to use my own deductive skills in the game, but there's more guiding than freedom to do so. Don't get me wrong; you can walk around town or go to different places, but the game doesn't allow you to move ahead in the story unless you've looked at every single thing it wants you to look at (even though you already figured things out).
Not only that, the things that are happening in the game feel unatural. I dont want to feel like characters are doing things just for storytelling conveniece. For example, in the part where you ease drop on people, they just conveniently be talking about the person your looking for, and you just be coincedentaly be listening at the right time, and they are just so happening to be talking about that person for no absolute reason at all.
Although there are things in the game that could be improved, the stories weren't all that bad. I don't want to give out any spoilers, so if your mostly looking for a game with a story, then I guess you can try out this one, as long as you can ignore certain unrealistic events in the game.

I don't know if it's because I played every SH PC game out there. I don't know if it is because I LOOOOVE me detective games and recently played really good ones with awesome stories. I don't know if it's because I expected another triumph from Frogwares. But this game is absolutely boring. It breaks the succeeding formula of the SH by trying to mix in elements from successful action games using quick time events. Plus it s extremely short and fails to make you care for succeeding in solving the cases (which were easy. Too easy).

At one point you are following a guy like in Assassins Creed. Another moment you sneak by guard like in Metal Gear Solid. Tons of quick time events. Few cases with boring stories, with sudden end and sudden start. Characters with no facial expressions, requires no real slueth skills and even the underline story of your so called daughter is appealing as watching a hair grow.

This is a disappointment and the first failure on the series by Frogware. I hope they won't keep this up and will return to doing pure detective SH games like they did up until now. Yes. They won't address a larger audience but there are enough action games and open world games that are doing that and trying to hybrid that with a detective game is a disaster.
We don't get much of the detective games like SH and LA Noir and I do belive that the genre should see more like SH Testament and even The case of the Silver Earring and less of this failure.

To sum up, don't buy this. It's not worth 50$.

The main problem with this game is rhythm. Developers do not understand when a minigame can be appropriate and when it just feels like filler. When you're about to end a mystery and want to see who the murderer was and how it all happenned... Having to deal with 3 consecutive (and pretty bad) puzzles is nonsense when all of the investigation has already been done. The game overall feels rushed, it's not a balanced experience. Go get Crimes and Punishments instead...
