Version 1.6 Available Now

Version 1.6 of GunWorld is available now! It took a bit longer to get out than anticipated. We've made a few balance changes and some bug fixes. The Mac version is what held up the release of 1.6, as we wanted to release them alongside each other, but we're running into some issues getting that version of the game finished. Stay tuned for an update on the release of the Mac version.

The two most noteworthy balance changes are as follows
- The Revolver is no longer limited by how many bullets are on screen.
- The damage invulnerability time has been doubled.

1.6 Update and Mac version

Hello all, just wanted to thank you for checking out GunWorld. Please share any feedback in the community boards here or with us directly on Twitter at twitter.com/m07games.

There is a 1.6 update scheduled to release next week to address a bug on the Jungle stage. If you come across pink squares loading on the ceiling where you're supposed to jump up, you've stumbled across a bug that will crash the game if you touch the squares. Best way to avoid it is to die and reset the stage. We are still trying to replicate this in house so we can fix it.

We're also working on the Mac version right now, it'll hopefully be available soon.

Aside from that we're thinking about adding in an easy mode for a big 2.0 update to come soon. We've heard some feedback that the game is exceptionally hard and, while that was our goal, it is stopping some people from simply enjoying it and getting to the (100% worthwhile) ending sequence. Heck, it's stopping people from even unlocking any of the sweet new guns.

If GunWorld is too tough for you then voice your feedback with us and we'll look into making an easier mode that gives you more guns and more chances at survival.

Thanks!

About This Game

Plant seeds to grow guns!

GunWorld is a love letter to 8-bit action games, it's an homage to everything great about classic game design and action heroes of the 1980s! An emphasis on high challenge and non-linear progression means GunWorld is not for the faint of heart. Players will be challenged to complete a series of levels in any order they choose, unlocking new weaponry as they do. With each new piece of equipment additional options present themselves, encouraging experimentation and repeated level runs.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • OS: Windows 7
    • Processor: 3.0 GHz
    • Memory: 4 GB RAM
    • Hard Drive: 55 MB available space

The game is too bad in so many ways. I feel very disappointed considering that i voted for it and was waiting eagerly for its release. Here's my pro/con list:

Pros:
+8bit retro graphics retro music & feel.
+nice idea with planting guns.

Cons:
- Too difficult in a way that it's only punishing and not rewarding, at all.
- Seems very unpolished, you have to stand on the correct pixel to jump off a platform.
- Cannot change keyboard layout and the default layout is junk. You control with WASD and jump/fire with JK. And then there's Shift. But a 8 bit/retro game without cursor keys layout?
- ESC should mean ESC not ALT+F4
- Totally unbalanced enemies, you have to use a full gun magazine to kill the first two of them on the 1st level.
- A game without save, without checkpoints, 3 lives and a totally useless intro level EVERY **** TIME !

Verdict: Nah.. [2/10]

Its retro, and as the dev stats on the title page a challenging homage to the 80's. It has a nice melodic background music. Its bloody hard and will take a lot of gameplay to beat. Nice.... and bloody hard.

The main character is Dwaine, a brother from another motha, or in this case a planet where guns grow on tree's or at least pods for Dwaine.... and the guns are big, but you need tons of bullets to knock most opponents out.. other weapons are available. which you accumulate on beating levels .... beating bosses, which then makes other levels beatable.

With card drops and achievements, for a few bucks its a blast, literally ...

It's hard for me to say anything nice about a game in which I couldn't beat a single stage. The difficulty in this game is right on par with Silver Surfer for the NES -- that is to say, it's next to impossible. I get that this game is meant to emulate 80s platformers, but it did so in all the wrong ways.

One thing that bothered me greatly was the lack of checkpoints. Every time you die, you start back at the beginning of the stage. Unless, of course, I hadn't yet reached a checkpoint in the stage, which only compounds the difficulty issue. Another problem is that, like many platformers of that era, the game relies on pixel-perfect jumps as a means of coaxing cheap deaths from the player. Speaking of which, the game also tries to include the Ninja Gaiden style of wall jumping, but it doesn't feel as fluid as that game. I find that a frequent problem in games of this type; they want to emulate Ninja Gaiden, but in the end all it does is make you wish you were playing that instead.

There's one level which effectively starts with a boss fight. At first, the pattern to beat the boss seems simple: Get out of his way when he jumps or charges, and avoid the rocks that fall when he does this. That's enough to keep you focused, but the game devs didn't stop there. They also throw in these slug creatures that fall along with the rocks, so you have MORE things to avoid. Why bother? It's unnecessarily difficult.

As a lesser point, there are some glitches/bugs, though nothing game-breaking, as far as I can tell. During your death animation, you can actually still shoot from side to side, which is funny even though it's pointless.

I notice the game is marked as Version 1.5; I hope there are future fixes coming that address the insane difficulty, otherwise I have to say this game is not enjoyable in the least. Thank goodness I only picked it up for $2.99, otherwise I'd be even more upset.

It's unfortunate that this game is not very fun and all it really has going for it is the nostalgia factor of the 8-bit graphics style. The music/sound is a quick afterthought and most of your deaths will be in lieu of Contra styled deaths, just not knowing what to expect ahead of you as it unfairly hits you in a timed jump so it becomes a game of advanced memorization as you restart levels over and over again. You only have 3 hits at your disposal and then you die. One of my biggest complaints is the very short invulnerability time when you do take a hit and it's very easy to get juggled around and die.

I think the majority of the difficulty this game has to offer is largely from poor level design, not having a very large field of view in front of you to predict what might attack you, and relying too heavily on purposely creating scenarios that there is no way you could guess something is going to attack in such a way or is not destroyable making the first encounter a cheap death. All that aside if those things don't bother you in a retro platformer than by all means drop the cash on this game since it is not ridiculously priced for the content it does offer. But there are games far better than this for the same price as well so I'd recommend to shop around.

Great game, the challenge is there but not impossible, I only played for a couple hours and got a couple of the guns unlocked! That Eagle rifle is awesome.

I must say this art is bright and fun and easy on the eyes.

Thumbs up!

There is no doubt about it that this is a difficult game to beat, but that just makes the eventual success that much better. A very faithful retro-style game (working mostly within actual limitations of games/hardware made in that era), GunWorld is a very enjoyable callback to the games that many people grew up with. The original story is a welcome experience in an era where we see sequel after sequel and the music provides just the right atmosphere for the gun-toting, platforming adventures that await you. Highly recommended.

Ths is a retro style game with level reset after every death. The graphics remind you of arcade games of the 70's and 80's. I can neither recommend positive or negatively for this game. It is a matter of choice.

really good game and i like the old feel of it, but it is like impossible to beat levels so maybe add checkpoints and make it easier, and maybe have a character select not just one black dude with a gun. also make it easier to "grow" other guns. but, if u did that the game would be a masterpiece.

How does a 55mb game made of crunchy pixels require a 3.0ghz processor to run? I can't give a better review of this since I got it in a bundle and literally can't play it.

Boring gameplay and old school lives system where if you die you got to restart the section and if you run out of 3 lives you restart the whole level.

The game tells you the first time you run out of lives "GET USED TO THIS"... no, no I will not, thank you very much.

Try to skip the cinematic, press escape. Game quits.
Try to change controls, press escape, q, space, mouseclick, nothing works.

Gave up and just let the game run in the background to get the cards and uninstalled.
