“…hugely satisfying, especially for gamers that enjoy sniping in first-person shooters.”
–IGN.com Editorial
“In game terms, stealth is a big part of Sniper's challenge. Because many of the missions take place in the Amazon jungle, there will often be plenty of thick vegetation to hide in.”
– Gamespot.com
“I can see appeal to both ways of playing Sniper: one for its increased sense of satisfaction for hitting the shot -- complete with bullet chase cam to the perfect strike; the other for its simple pleasure of hitting a steady stream of headshots.”
– ShackNews.com Editorial
“The great thing about Sniper: Ghost Warrior is that the “vision cone” of the game is insanely huge, so even though you might be hundreds of feet away from an enemy, they are more than capable of seeing you through a crack in a fence, or from across a canyon. It's a weird little element of the game that I found to be very impressive, something that was oddly realistic.”

About This Game

When the democratic government of Isla Trueno is overthrown, an aggressive and hostile military command rises to power. A highly trained special ops unit is sent in to help the rebels accomplish objectives that only a sniper can handle. In addition to intense sniper missions, players will also take part in a variety of assault scenarios where their prowess with weapons will be a huge help to the undermanned rebels. Sniper: Ghost Warrior seeks to challenge players in new ways so that the game is both demanding and entertaining.
Developed by City Interactive’s dedicated next-gen games studio, Sniper: Ghost Warrior delivers an impressive visual and technological gaming experience and features a realistic ballistics system that measures bullet trajectory, bullet drop and environmental effects such as wind, fog & rain. Encompassing a wide array of single and multiplayer levels, players will encounter a variety of challenging terrain. Players take on the role of a Ghost Warrior, an elite sniper in a highly trained special ops unit, whose unique skills in the art of stalking, target detection, surveillance and shooting accuracy will determine mission success. Covert missions force players to operate undetected as they attempt to eliminate hostile enemies one head shot at a time.

Linear, scripted, interesting/sometimes ridiculous AI response time and reaction, stealth and sniping = entertaining.

Although the sniping segments aren’t that bad; the overuse of terrible close combat makes this game truly awful! Even the snazzy slow motion sniping moments aren’t enough to save this from a mistake I just can’t imagine a developer making when creating a game entitled Sniper: Ghost Warrior! Based on that title I would imagine the game to be based on stealthy sniper shots and sensible thinking to figure out the best way to dispatch of enemies! Instead we get a rather closed in environment and half of the game spent running through corridors with an assault rifle that’s frankly one of the worst handling weapons I’ve ever used in a video game! I ignored the negative reviews when purchasing and, well, I kind of wish I hadn’t!

Don't even bother. Enemies spot you half a kilometre away, stealth isn't even working properli, suppressors don't work, grappling hook or whatever it is denies the laws of physics and the story is ♥♥♥♥.
Do. Not. Buy.
(unless you're paid a lot to do it)

Game has decent graphics, but the mechanics are a bit off... some of the mechanics are kind of game-breaking.

A nice first attempt, but some seriously broken mechanics stop this game from being good. The sniper sections are fine, if a little monotonous. But the parts of this game that make me slam my head on the desk and give it a negative review are the assault sections.

In these sections you are given an M4 rifle and tasked with killing a lot of enemies in close quarters. The recoil on the M4 is so high (way higher than a real 223 round would ever give), that it is basically trial and error killing the enemies, since the gun lacks a semi-automatic option. There are enough of these sections that, especially on the harder difficulties, completing the game can become something nightmarish requiring repeated attempts of the same gunfight.

But the game is mainly focussed around the sniping experience, so I wish those assault sections didn't even exist. The sequel is much better and is a game that I would actually recommend, thankfully void of any annoying parts like that.

Good graphics, but poor AI / voice acting / cutscenes. The developers spent most of their time on the graphics which look great, but the story, the acting and the cutscenes were quickly done.

They took a shortcut with the AI - if you screw up and lave a dead body where it can be seen (you can't drag them) the enemy instantly knows yor current location. They don't look around for you or go into a hgher state of alert, they just know exactly where you are.

Buy for $8 or less, not worth much more....

The first Sniper experience is a very bad one. Make no mistake: the game looks decent and there's a lot of emphasis on the sniping action which feels a lot of fun. The features section of the game's store page highlights the importance of weather, wind and how the bullet trajectory / drop can be affected by them. It's all good but just not enough to result in a good game.

Campaign is short and extremely difficult. While sniping is fun you are told exactly where to go and what to do. It is so heavily scripted that under no circumstances do you feel you should try it again. From time to time you are in the shoes of a soldier only allowed to handle rifles or SMGs. Fighting with these is very difficult. It has nothing to do with how these weapons work: the enemy can just easily spot you and shoot you down. This switching back and forth from the easy sniping and the very hard gunning sequences just makes the game unplayable.

In addition to this, I was unable to find any games online. Not that after the horrible single player I wanted any. Sniper Ghost Warrior is an original game: its creators knew a lot of people liked sniping so they developed a game with that in mind. It was just not executed properly. If they had taken the time to refine the campaign and completely get rid of the non-sniper weapons this would have easily been on top of the list of my favourite games.

This game is dead. The storyline was bad, the AI could see you 500m away with the naked eye while hiding in a bush at night, suppressors do not work, you need to stab yourself in the eye with a needle to regenerate health, every mission is basically repeated, physics are shiet and u cnt 360 claymore switch ladder stall FaZe noscope.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior is a generic, no-name game with a few bugs. The entire concept of this game is that the one element that is only a portion of other games – the sniper mode – is the entire focus. The problem with focusing on one element of a game is that you need to do that element extremely well in order to be successful. While this game does do this well – the camera angles and feeling you get while sniping is very good.Sniper: Ghost Warrior puts you in the midst of a deadly conflict in South America. It’s your duty as an American soldier to assist the rebels in overthrowing the dictator of this fictional country. Combat locations are varied, from urban streets to the sweltering humid jungles. There’s no shortage of action, and like the locations, the gameplay is varied. There’s nothing terrible about this game, and there's also nothing terribly original either. There are some technical issues which keep it from ever being considered a classic. Some of the glitches you'll encounter include clipping graphics and control command errors. In some instances you can see through walls and other structures. Unfortunately it also appears the A.I. has this ability as they can pinpoint your location with uncanny accuracy once you’ve fired off a shot.A sniper’s life isn’t all sunshine and lollipops, so expect the unexpected, along with some frustrating elements you will have little control over.Despite the clipping, the graphics are well done, creating spacious environments such as the villages and jungle areas. There isn’t much story to concern you, just follow orders and keep yourself alive.Like Splinter Cell, there is a meter to determine your level of stealth in relation to the enemy's perception. It will indicate the degree the enemy is aware of your presence, so you’ll always have instant feedback on your progress making the stealth segments more exciting. Ghost Warrior is a bit like a basically excellent rough diamond, that no one wanted to polish any further. It's got good ideas and good visuals, but nowadays, that alone just isn't enough to be able to keep up with the competition.Overall 6/10.
