Bought the trilogy for £4.75

Story is basic but was enough to keep me through till the end, the game is ok but the bugs really messed it up.

Sniping was great but not without it flaws, things like leafs stopping your bullets or the bullet not hitting enemies at all.

Enemy detection is up and down per level (or parts of levels) for instance you can be prone in front of an enemy in low grass and he won't see you and then you could be 100+m away in a forest area prone and you'll be spotted instantly.

AI is bugged like ♥♥♥♥, you can shoot an enemy with a silenced shot from the sniper rifle and it'll alert everyone thats close by but you can set off a C4 and no one will pay it attention.

Invisible walls galore and bad collision getting up stairs can be a task in itself.

Aiming as the ground unit is difficult all due to the initial recoil burst from the machine gun and the iron sights are bad making the enemy hard to see, i found myself using hip fire instead.

Other random bug that often stopped the game progressing and requires you to load your last checkpoint

The best and most functional part of this game is the silenced pistol (close to that is throwing knifes), i used this more then anything.

All in all the game is ok to play and worth the price i paid, it is full of bugs that I did cope with and i have seen worse (no mans lie) the game is a huge improvement over Sniper: Art of War.

It feels like the enemy is hacking... the moment you stick your headout they instent knows your locations... it is a "sniper" game so if you use any other weapon but the sniper it is pain.. just pain.. worst iron-sight i've ever seen in game.. I didn't even want to finish the game. The game started out great on the first 2-3 levels and then it went down the trash...

it's painful to play this game with the AI constantly seeing you through walls and instant 1 tapping you.
stealth missions are a ♥♥♥♥ing joke getting the alarm triggered killing someone who is isolated from the others.

Sniper Ghost Warrior is a game I'd sum up with one word: inconsistent. Sometimes you can ignore your orders and set off the alarm and kill your way through a level, other times it ends in an instant "MISSION FAILED" the second you're spotted. Sometimes enemies run around looking for you after you've sniped one of them from your distant hiding spot, other times enemies know exactly where you are at all times and can kill you in seconds by firing an assault rifle from the hip...while running....from 500' away.

It's a shame because the first act of the game is great, if not a little dumb, sticking exclusively to stealth missions that work well. You have a surprising amount of freedom, moving through the levels to flank and take out enemies with knives, silenced weapons, sniper rifles, or assault weapons if you choose.

Then, suddenly, you switch to a different character in a 3-member ground assault team, and it's all downhill from there. You'll bounce between assault and sniping missions for the rest of the game, but it rarely ever gets back to the quality of the first quarter of the game. There's always something wrong, no matter what type of mission you're playing, from setting off an alarm even though all of the enemies are dead, to getting stuck in a poorly placed inescapable small pool of water, to swimming and being shot at with no way to defend yourself. This inconsistency makes each section feel like trial-and-error as you slink or sprint through, wondering how the game will punish you this time.

What is consistent, however, is how amazing Sniper Ghost Warrior's jungles look. Although the shaders aren't as realistic as those in Crysis, the same level of detail is there, and environmental effects like rain and wind help make the game world one worth visiting.

The game's challenge is also consistent. This is a game that separates the winners from the losers. You beat this game, you win. You deserve to call yourself a gamer. But if you don't beat this game...you're a loser, obviously. You're also a loser if you don't play this on the hardest difficulty. And if you don't even OWN this game, you're a loser AND you're poor.

Seriously...look at Sniper Ghost Warrior 3. That game looks AMAZING. And you don't deserve to play it, or even call yourself a gamer, until you beat this game AND its sequel. 'Nuff said.

Picked it up in a bundle because I thought I remembered having a good time in it back on my 360. I was so so wrong.

Terrible AI, goes from "HURR DURR Y U FALL ASLEEP IN ROAD' to eagle-eyed x-ray vision equpped terminator in 0-60.

Weapon handling is wierd. Your pistol instakills any opponent, is silent, has pinpoint accuracy and unnoticable recoil.

The three sniper rifles I managed to find, the M16-based one and the AS50 felt... okay? They onehit anything anywhere on the body and the silent m16 isn't noticed by any enemy ever.

GOD FORBID YOU PICK UP AN AUTOMATC WEAPON THOUGH. When firing an assualt rifle, you'll begin to wonder if you picked up a Star Wars game, and tried out the imperial campaign. The recoil is massive, and the bullet spread couldn't hit Rhode Island point blank.

The worst bit? The third or fourth mission makes you play someone who doen't have acess to you 1HKO godmchine sniper rifles, an you're forced to deal with an M4. That's when it really hammers home how bad the AI is. While you're dealing with a rifle that seems to fire at the edges of your screen, the ai have benchrest shooter accuracy on full auto and can see through any kind of debris on the map.

TL;DR? Ths game deserves every bit of the 35% rating it had when I posted this.

Well, the graphics of Sniper: Ghost Warrior are not the best and it can not compete with the latest games, but I think it is quite acceptable. Besides the graphics there are more cons to name, like the unbalanced AI or the ordinary story. Nevertheless, this game is a lot better than it's predecessor, Sniper Art of Victory. It focuses on sneaking through enemy held territory and sniping. This brings me to the main reason, why one would want to buy this game, the bullet/killcam. Seeing your bullet's fly is just awesome! If this is a good enough reason for you, buy this game. Personally, I recommend buying the bundle on sale!

A SIMPLE REVIEW: Only buy this game if you can get it for less than $5. No more. Best aspects are sniping, sneaking, and planning your shots/kills. While the sniping and sneaking are a lot of fun, the more "action" like parts are NOT! I recommend this only if you can grab it in a cheap bundle (I paid, mathematically speaking, less than $1 for this game). If you want more details, continue below.

SNIPING/SNEAKING: A lot of fun, actually! Don't play this game on easy, just start it out on hard. You'll have a much more challenging and enjoyable experience. I had more than enough fun sneaking through the jungle and carefully picking my targets. Many enemies I had to leave behind in order to remain undetected. DO NOT PLAY THIS LIKE A RUN-AND-GUN! (as should be obvious) The mechanics of this game and your gear will not help you in the slightest and you will die easily. Which brings me, sadly, to the next part...

NON-SNIPING PARTS: Due to the poor mechanics of this game and the overall design, the hardest, most annoying, and least fun parts were the ones where you have to use an assault rifle in a 3-man team. Recoil is terrible, accuracy is non-existant, and everyone else can take you out since they are shooting from all directions. Simply AWFUL! No other words needed to articulate this problem. Oh yeah, and the AI is either incredibly clueless or has the perception of a hawk, depending on your current status or location in a given mission. (sometimes the game just "automatically" made me detected even though I was never spotted and never raised an alert).

I only recommend this game IF you buy it for less than $5. Otherwise, wait till the price drops. The sneaking and sniping through the jungle was a fun experience without a doubt and outweighs the terrible assault mechanics.

Multiplayer is seriously tense. Played for 30 mins without seeing a single opponent. Kills are extremely satisfying but not in a flashy, Sniper Elite sort of way. It's raw and bare-bones; no Mortal Kombat x-ray ♥♥♥♥ here. Refreshingly slow paced and minimal.

Map design is utterly unique, with large 2 Fort style sides and many maps being deemed "no cross" maps, meaning you'll never come into close contact with the enemy (unless it's a griefer). Most maps are densely foliated with a very restrained color palette, really making this game of high caliber I Spy all the more challenging.

The lack of an option to toggle zoom is pure cruelty but adds so much to the experience.

10/10 would sit in a bush for 20 minutes doing nothing but staring at outdated plant textures again

A serious sniping game. Lurking in the bush, finding a good position and placing one single, perfect shot, only to sneak away unseen and leaving not a trace. Like the shadow of a ghost in the jungle. Sniper: Ghost Warrior is just about as far from this ideal as it is possible to come.

As a sniper, your primary tool lies simply in not being seen. This would typically entail you wanting to stay off roads, footpaths and other places where people usually travel. In S:GW, you can only dream of this. The area in which you can move is so narrow, you'd get claustrophobia if it weren't for the fact that it looks relatively pretty. The catch is, there are so many invisible walls, idiotically placed fences (which you cannot jump over, of course), stupid fishing nets across the creek (which you cannot cut, even though you're carrying a knife), columns that just happened to have fallen just so, etc. etc.

The whole game is pretty much based on railroading of the highest order: You have to go there, to that exact rock shelf, before the victim decides to stroll out of his cabin. At one point, you are actually told to place a claymore on the path "in case there's a chase". (Three guesses what happens just after you take the shot ...)

Sight adjustments though. At least they have that down, right? As if ... you're left relying on Kentucky Windage. Because the game is actually simulating wind. You even have a wind gauge that is visible in the scope, to help you place your shots properly. That would be handy, if it hadn't been for the fact that the wind is completely random. But they've solved that problem for you as well: You see, you have a tiny red circle travelling around the crosshairs, which tells you precisely where your bullet will hit. All so you don't have to worry about boring things like finding the range or elevation relative to your target. Because who would want that in a sniper game. Oh, and is that magic circle moving too fast for you? Don't worry, you can just press shift to go into bullet-time. /facepalm

But they do have bullet-drop, so they have at least modelled ballistics to some degree. Yay.

So, you know where you'll hit before you fire your shots. Or so you would think. Well, you'll just have to hope that the chain-link fence through which you're shooting, is of the type that bullet's can actually penetrate. Because not everything is as it seems in this game. You can shoot through (some) walls, but not through all chain-link fences. You can jump up on a ledge only to meet an invisible wall 10 cm further in, etc. etc.

With so many things about which to be annoyed, it seems almost banal to point out that the level design is hopelessly bad (e.g. the obvious railroading) and that the scenarios are completely unrealistic. For example: you're asked to sneak into the middle of a military installation carrying a weapon whose optimum range is >300m. Luckily, the AI is so moronic, it doesn't really matter: You can be lying on the other side of a river, taking out infantry in a village chock full of them, and they won't bat an eyelid when their friend mysteriously decides to start the siesta 8 hours prematurely. 2 meters away from them. The loud bang immediately following is obviously completely unrelated. But don't try to walk up-right behind an enemy instead of crouching like you've learned, because then they've suddenly got superman-hearing and flash-reflexes and you're dead before you even have time to jump.

At some point in time, I think the developers realized that they weren't really working on the worlds greatest sniper game, because in the middle of the game you suddenly change roles and run around like a regular infantryman with an M16 or similar rifle. And if the game is lousy as a sniper game, it really sucks as a standard "run & gun". Everything is still just as fricking scripted: The enemies come running only once you walk through the gate (which is of course your only choice of route) and your allies faithfully wait for you to be a pointman and advance the battle. Meanwhile, they're busy, locked in an eternal gunfight with the AI, none of whom seem to be able to hit the broad side of a barn. So it is in fact an illusion that you have helpers in the grunt scenarios. In reality, you're just as alone there as you are in the forest. The only difference is you're playing an abysmal infantry game instead of a boring sniper game.

Small blessings and everything, but I'm so glad I followed my gut feeling and didn't fork out for this game at full price, but waited for the infamous holiday sale. But even at todays low, low price, this game isn't worth it.

The game is definitely not recommended for the following reasons
  - The game is buggy
  - AI uses Aimbot + Wallhack up too unbearable form
  - AI has more precise weapons over unlimited distances (kills you with a heavy machine gun across the map)
  - Allied troops (AI) are absolutely useless. Not killing enemies and in 90% enemy totally ignoring them
  - Hard difficulty is a joke because of the previously mentioned problems
  - The story is common
  - Possibilities movement are ridiculous (not climb the fence, jumping useless)
  - Low animations and fight options are low
  - Multiplayer plays about 20 people and feels like it's not finished

The first Sniper experience is a very bad one. Make no mistake: the game looks decent and there's a lot of emphasis on the sniping action which feels a lot of fun. The features section of the game's store page highlights the importance of weather, wind and how the bullet trajectory / drop can be affected by them. It's all good but just not enough to result in a good game.

Campaign is short and extremely difficult. While sniping is fun you are told exactly where to go and what to do. It is so heavily scripted that under no circumstances do you feel you should try it again. From time to time you are in the shoes of a soldier only allowed to handle rifles or SMGs. Fighting with these is very difficult. It has nothing to do with how these weapons work: the enemy can just easily spot you and shoot you down. This switching back and forth from the easy sniping and the very hard gunning sequences just makes the game unplayable.

In addition to this, I was unable to find any games online. Not that after the horrible single player I wanted any. Sniper Ghost Warrior is an original game: its creators knew a lot of people liked sniping so they developed a game with that in mind. It was just not executed properly. If they had taken the time to refine the campaign and completely get rid of the non-sniper weapons this would have easily been on top of the list of my favourite games.

"The most realistic sniping experience in a video game ever" that is a big steaming pile of BS right in the beginning of the key features. So called sniping experience is: slow up time shoot AI, rinse and repeat.

AI does not give a flying f***, if you shoot another one in its fov, it does not hear you shooting either. But dear god if you manage to get its attention, suddenly Übermensch, hitting you with every bullet from its assault rifle from vast distances as soon as you even pop your head up.

Maps are tunnels and game does not even try to hide that, aka. invisible walls everywhere.

Your "sniping experience" is every now and then stopped and you have to do some pure FPS missions, adding even more stink to this pile.

The rant could go on and on..

TL;DR If given for free then maybe, just maybe, worth it.

Pros

  • The game features fairly decent sniping mechanics. It takes into account distance, bullet drop, momentum and wind which makes shooting a bit more engaging that just pointing the reticle at the enemy and firing. If all of this sound daunting to you, don't fret. The game does feature “aim assist” in the form of a dot that lets you know where to fire from.
  • The story is not THAT bad (its not good though)

Cons

  • The game is riddled with bugs and clipping issues
  • The game suffers from some hit detection issue. Sometimes shooting straight at a guy will not register and if an enemy is being any type for foliage he will not get hit at all.
  • The A.I is pretty stupid and seems to be activate when you look at them which is weird.
  • The sound design is just bad. The voice acting is not that great, the enemies have the exact same dialogue from the beginning of the game to the end and the sound effects are pretty poor.. At several point in the game I have heard Soldier A and Soldier B having a conversation where both were saying the exact same lines.
  • The game is very short. I finished the main campaign on Normal in three and half hour and the dlc campaign in about one hour. There is another challenge mode that I did not touch.



Looking at the Pros and Cons it seems as though the game is not worth playing but I have found myself enjoying every moment of the game. It is campy, it is buggy and never rises above mediocre but it was just fun; Sneaking around sniping people, seeing your plan of attack succeed or even just hitting a guy while he is running were all very fulfilling. I recommend the game to people that can overlook some of its flaws and focus on the good that is in there (however little that is).

This game is dead. The storyline was bad, the AI could see you 500m away with the naked eye while hiding in a bush at night, suppressors do not work, you need to stab yourself in the eye with a needle to regenerate health, every mission is basically repeated, physics are ♥♥♥♥♥ and u cnt 360 claymore switch ladder stall FaZe noscope.

Lets make first things first: This game isn't so bad at all, if you have no expectations.
If you really want a good sniper game, go one with Sniper Elite V2 and the following ones.

However, if you play through the levels it feels like this game can't decide what it wants to be. A stealthy sniper game - like you would expect from the name? A common military FPS shooter? In the end, nothing of this feels right as it should.

In the stealth missions it's hard to stay undetected. Even if you really try - the so-called KI spots you 10km far away, they raise the alarm immediately and you don't have a chance to turn it off. You shoot with a silenced weapon? Everyone else in a distance about 20m seems to be aware of that shot.

Nevertheless, in the levels you play the opposite side you just try to go in like Rambo. The recoil of the assault rifle is rediculous. I couldn't get a clear shot with it and mostly died because my character seems to be the only target for the enemy while two of your KI-friends stands around and shoot everything that moves. That makes it nearly impossible to play it on hard (for the achievements).
I don't mind neither the linearity of this game nor the invisible walls. But the controlls and the gameplay itselfs are so bad that I didn't mind to play forward anymore.

You can get it very cheap out of a bundle? Feel free to buy it, but don't pay the whole price for it. It's not worth it.
