Although the extra Heavy is nice and opens up some more tactical options (combined with their inherent fire immunity) you'll also find yourself relying more on your three other squad members to cover avenues in order to conserve ammo.

Speed and brute force are your best strategy with this Chapter. Broodlords are extra annoying this time around, as they take no damage from fire effects, this Chapter's strong focus.

The new levels are great, but might greatly impact your FPS due to the sheer quantity of visual effects.

Do you like FIRE? Do you like setting entire maps alight with FLAME?! Hoo-boy!! Have we got a DLC for you...

Apart from having two - count 'em, two! - heavy flamers in each and every squad, Salamander librarians have a brand new psychic power which spews forth flame in a manner precisely akin to a flamethrower. But wait, there's more! ALL of your Salamander marines are furthermore endowed from the start with a resistance to fire, meaning you can stick your flamers at the front AND the rear, and just walk on through your own handiwork like the Devil himself going for a stroll through Hell. So that's two thumbs up for the Salamanders themselves.

Now for the negatives.

I first started playing the OLD Space Hulk game from Full Control Studios on a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ old laptop of mine, which could barely handle the ♥♥♥♥er on mediocre graphics when there were fifty thousand genestealers on screen. But fair enough, that was a weak-♥♥♥♥ computer, and I've since upgraded to a pretty expensive laptop which can handle just about everything. Everything...except the new maps which come with this DLC! Even once I took the graphics down to 1280 X 768, on MEDIUM quality settings, the game ran at about a QUARTER of the speed it did on all other maps, due to all the lava and flame and what-not on-screen at any one time. And that was just the FIRST MISSION! But hey, that's okay...I've been saving up for a new NASA supercomputer, and should have that in the next decade or two, tops, so I'll finally get to play all those gorgeous-looking maps then!!

I'm still recommending this, especially to people with top-of-the-range mega-computers and/or all of you budding arsonists out there. Personally, it was still worth it for me at the sale or bundle price I got it for, not least of all because the overall game has now been given a great deal of longevity for me...seeing since I probably won't be playing a whole CAMPAIGN's worth of maps for some years to come! So I definitely feel like I got my money's worth. Whether others will feel the same way, I can't rightly say. The heads-up has been given, the decision is yours...

Verdict: 8/10.

I was liking the idea of salamanders but while playing I get about 4 missions in then cant select the units except by icon then they wont continue to second phase.. the tyranids turn.. abort and same thing on any other campaign. I guess it goes back on the play another time list as i saw no posts of simiar experience.. and my frame rate is smooth as can be.

Arguably the best aspect of the last DLC was that it had more thoughtful, complex missions, exhibiting a more hand-made feel than the stock game. The Salamander DLC pushes even further in that direction, with an even trickier, more thoughtful, meatier campaign. The new faction's focus on flamers allows you to be more flexible, and is generally a cool addition. The improved story (as advertised) isn't much of a game changer, but the mission briefings are a little more verbose and interesting, which is nice. As always, it won't sway critics of the original game, but it's a satisfying addition for those who want more.
