What's New in Music Creator 7
Music Creator 7 now includes many exciting, easy-to-understand new features that allow even beginners to obtain professional-sounding results.

Hi-Def Control Bar
Regardless of screen size, the new Hi-Def Control Bar makes it even easier to access your most frequently used controls. With clearer text, and better auto spacing, the new Control Bar makes creating music an absolute joy on the eyes. And with dynamic resizing, your Control Bar will always look good regardless of your PC screen’s resolution.

Onscreen Virtual Controller
Programming MIDI synth lines and beats has never been more fun, thanks to the new onscreen virtual MIDI controller—play your parts right from your touch screen with any multi-touch compatible monitor or PC. You can also use any QWERTY keyboard, so you don’t need to carry around a separate hardware MIDI controller.

MixStrip
The new MixStrip, integrated directly into Music Creator’s Track View, makes it easy to achieve superior mixes in less time. The MixStrip includes the built-in, high-quality Curve EQ on every track, and the new Style Dial FX offer speedy, one-knob access to the most commonly used effects including:

GRIT: Tube warmth mixed in with modern amp overdrive
MAX: Transparent track leveler and compressor for everyday use
SPACE: Dynamically shaped ambience control for small to huge sounds.

Improved Audio Editing
Music Creator 7 now features Cakewalk’s unique “speed comping,” so you can assemble a perfect performance from multiple takes with a simple swipe of the mouse – ideal for vocals and guitar solos. And you’ll be clicking less than ever thanks to the Smart Tool, which adapts to your workflow - whether you’re editing audio or MIDI data. Also, editing is a snap with the Smart Grid—which automatically sets the snap resolution and visual grid line to match the current zoom level.

Enhanced editing
The only variable separating you from your creativity is time, and the Pattern Tool—which sits in the Smart Tool palette for instant access—is all about saving time. Forget cut and paste: Simply select and paint MIDI loops and patterns across the Piano Roll View and Track View. In addition, Music Creator now allows for MIDI time-stretching, velocity layering, and additional functionality to simplify MIDI editing even further. And it’s all wrapped in a brand new Piano Roll View with improved zoom that makes editing MIDI a piece of cake.

So far this has been a nightmare. I bought this over a year ago and to this day it won't work right. For starters it won't activate.

I downloaded command center and it doesn't see it. When I tried messing around in demo mode it has terrible latency issues.

I've logged into my online account and says the serial number is registered but it won't exit demo mode.

This is a horrific user experience deemed "fun and easy" but it's made want to set kittens on fire.

Seriously, don't buy this, you're better off using a belt sander to shave your balls. At least then you would get the expected results unlike this that makes you want to belt sand your balls.

I been using Music Creator 7 for about a year now. Its my main DAW and probably the only one I'll use for a long time since it's stored in my Steam library. I make great music with this program; fast and easy. I love the grit, max, and space knobs it really makes a difference and learning fun. I think MC7 is just as good but easier then Reaper. If your new looking for something besides Protools, MC7 is a great place to start.

This is my first review - I don't normally write reviews but my experience with MC7 should be shared. At time of writing I have spent 39hrs with it.

TL;DR:

DON'T Buy this. Software is unstable, audio engine drops out, major latency & crackling issues that aren't present on the same rig running other DAWs. If you want a DAW on the cheap just get REAPER. If you have the money get SONAR or ProTools (or Cubase depending on what you use it for) Hell even FLStudio is better than this. You have been warned.

Detailed Version:

My Current Rig:
i7-3770 CPU, 8GB DDR3 RAM, GTX660ti, 256GB SSD for OS & Software, various other HDDs, Windows 10 Pro. This is system is also my daily use rig so it has Steam & Games installed, uTorrent, Plex Media Server etc and is not air gapped as some audio rigs are. I tested the software with a Line6 UX8, a Behringer UMC202 and a Zoom R24 interface in an attempt to eliminate hardware issues.

Usage:
I have been using SONAR for years - recorded and mixed a ton of (mostly) demos with it. In addition to micing up instruments I also used to capture a lot of midi/electronic drums, drum mapping, VST guitar sims & synths etc. Instead of going the upgrade route for SONAR I thought I would try MC7 - it was on sale for 20 bucks. As I have downsized and am mostly over my Gear Acquisition Syndrome it seemed that MC7 had the features I needed. In fairness I did try Sonar X1 when it was released and didn't like the new workflow very much.

Issues:

Before we get into the issues I can understand some of you thinking 'this guy doesn't know what he's doing blah blah blah' but after spending almost a decade using SONAR (started with Sonar 7 Producer in 07/08) I was confident I could make this work for me. I don't claim to be the greatest audio engineer in the world but if you had spent 1000's of hours using 1 piece of software with tons of different hardware/interfaces etc you would think you knew how it operated right? Extend me the same courtesy :)

MC7 has a few dealbreaker issues for me concerning latency & crackling of audio. I also have minor issues the UI and workflow and there seems to be a lack of documentation/support available offline or online. There was a noticable lack of forum posts about this as I don't think many people bothered with it in the first place. These issues I could have put up with if it wasn't for the dealbreakers.

MC7 has serious issues with VST effects either as an insert effect of for playback. I tested Positivegrid BIAS and Revalver - with any latency under 25msec all of the interfaces were unusable - over this they still crackled but were kind of usable. The crackling also occured on playback without monitoring the input signal - even on only 1 or 2 instances of Revalver or BIAS. Interestingly the last attempt I made with MC7 was with 6 dry guitar tracks running revalver on each - I could not listen back but when I exported a mixdown the WAV file did not contain the audio crackling at all. Also the audio engine drops in & out unexpectedly (I didn't pin down why THIS was happening)

MY natural conclusion at this point is that it could be a hardware/software issue on my end so I spent hours playing with my ASIO settings (buffer size, bitrate, latency etc). I also made sure each interface was running updated firmware, drivers etc. but nothing seemed to make much of a difference. At this point I exported a bundle (this project was running Ezdrummer2, 6 dry mono guitar tracks with revalver and a couple of busses running BlissEQ and VC64) and dropped it into my ancient copy of SONAR 8. To my surprise it loaded without any issues at all and the playback was flawless. Latency on an incoming guitar signal was ~8msec and crystal clear. At this point I officially gave up on MC7. If an 8 year old DAW released by the same company can outperform it then I'm not going to waste any more time troubleshooting it.

Conclusion:
When I purchased this I thought I was getting a stripped back version of a familiar DAW. Instead I got a buggy, unstable DAW that is frustrating for an experienced user and in my opinion unfair for a new user to tackle. If you are experienced with using DAWs and the recording process then get one of the big names (SONAR, ProTools, Cubase). If you are new to computer based recording & DAW software and you are on a budget then try REAPER. Most of these DAWs have demos available that work well enough for proper testing - if I remember correctly Reaper is full function for 60 days. Try them and see what works for you.

Good luck and write those tunes!

This is a ♥♥♥♥ing piece of ♥♥♥♥. If your sound card is any good, this ♥♥♥♥ won't work. Plus, your paying $50 for a demo that you can get on cakewalk's website for free. It prompts you to get the full version but doesn't provide a way to do so. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU DON"T WANT TO GET ♥♥♥♥ED IN THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't buy. Has the worst latency. You record 20 seconds and when you play it back by the end of the recording it's more than a second off from the original. And it's not my hardware, I have up to date great hardware.

Unusable POS drops audio every 15-20 seconds. Maybe, MAYBE if it worked reliably for more than 20 seconds, it might actually be useful, and who knows, maybe on your system it won't be such a hunk of crap. I think you would find more musical utility from lighting $40 on fire. Buyer beware.

Interface is extremely clunky, far from begginer friendly, even with tutorials and such, i have no idea how to do anything, even adding in something like guitar rig to record is nigh on impossible. No experiance my ♥♥♥,

I upgraded from Music Creator 6 touch to 7 as I started using the program quite often as of recent. I am yet to see the difference as I am only a beginner but so far it seems about the same. I really enjoy using it and it is very user friendly. PLEASE for the love of anything holy, use the tutorials otherwise you will be completely lost.

I'll change my review.

Yes, the Interface is quite beginner friendly, compared to other DAW's. But people, this is still a serious software and not the LEGO NXT of audio production. Everything actually works pretty well until you start to record your stuff a little more like a pro. My problem as an example: my old laptop had dropouts with 2 Audio tracks and one MIDI Drumtrack. I planned to buy a new PC anyways so I blamed it on the hardware of the old laptop. But now I have a new PC with an I5 4460 and 8gb's of RAM, and get dropouts already with 1 double tracked guitar, a double tracked bass and a MIDI Drumtrack. I know people who can run way more tracks simultaneously on PCs with way less performance than mine in other DAW's.

So it depends on what you want to do, for me, the program became quite useless. If you only need a few tracks, it's probably ok. But then the result will probably sound boring and like ♥♥♥♥ unless you use only MIDI stuff for techno or whatever (well techno is still ♥♥♥♥ anyway :P) and MIDI tracks seem to need the most power.

Summed up:

I wanted to understand DAW's and learn how to use them --> check

I wanted to record some decent Metal instrumental songs --> not possible with this... whatever it is.

Overall I didn't pay even 20€ for this but I don't know If it's worth it for more than that. If you buy a decent audio interface, there is often better software included than this here.

Im gonna be say, im having extreme fun doing a bit of music with those free loops that they give you with this.
And yes, it is true that you're gonna be extremely confused in the first 2 or 3 hours if you dont read the tutorials.
(like i did)
But once you get to know how to place loops and make your own track (Extra points if you make your own partition on an instrument), boy is it great!

First Time use of the program was very easy to work around in. Not complicated at all. I have never had any music maker software and im glad this is the first one i picked. only problem is, that the DLC's are a bit too over priced in my opinion. but i overall liked this program.
