About This Game

MEDIEVAL: Total War™ - Collection Edition is the compilation of the critically-acclaimed Medieval: Total War and its official expansion pack - Viking Invasion

About MEDIEVAL: Total War™

From the lush grasslands of Western Europe to the arid deserts of Northern Africa, and from the first Crusade to the fall of Constantinople, wage total war in order to expand your influence and secure your reign as you build a dynastic empire to stretch across four centuries.
Recruit and deploy armies, besiege settlements, fight naval battles and employ agents such as emissaries, spies and assassins to aid with diplomacy, offer alliances or bribes, or execute more clandestine actions.
A dramatic period of rebellion, civil war, and the birthing of nations provides the backdrop to your own scheme for ultimate power. Carve a niche for yourself through the crucible of battle and become the statesman and king the era demands.

• Fourteen playable factions from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
• Up to 10,000 soldiers on-screen deliver incredible, epic battle scenes.
• New siege systems make the most of an era where formidable castles dotted the landscape.
• Valour, Vice and Virtues colour your faction’s characters, effecting how other treat them and the men they lead.

About MEDIEVAL: Total War™ - Viking Invasion

Set upon an extended map of the British Isles and western Scandinavia and taking place from 793 to 1066, Viking Invasion allows the player to assume the role of leader of the Viking faction as they raid, loot and pillage their way to supremacy.
Alternatively the player may take control of early Anglo-Saxon factions, such as Wessex and Mercia, with the aim of repelling the Viking invasion and ultimately controlling the British Isles in its entirety.

• Adds new Anglo-Saxon and Viking factions with additional units alongside the detailed new Campaign map.
• Also includes added functionality for the main game, such as flaming ammunition and three new factions with which to play through the original Grand Campaign.

Great game, shame it crashes all the time, making this unplayable.

The support for the game is awful as well.

Crashes! Used to love this game. Why let folks download it if it will not work on most folks computers these days.

Crap...absolute crap! I loved this game back in the day when it was new. I would spend days, sometimes weeks on campagins. The battle stratagy, economis, everything about this game is amazing. BUT, like several other people ive seen in the reviews, the game crashes waaaay to much. Played for 30min, crashed 3 times. tried again awhile later played another 30min, crashed 5 times. nothing in particular when it crashes its 100% random. Im using Win7 and a lot of people having this issue seemed to be using 10 so thought i would be ok but NOPE. I do NOT suggest buying this game. I wanted to play something fun from the older days of gaming but i would have rather paid twice what i did for this for a hardcopy that actually works. Can't even get a refund now. friggin rip off,

***DO NOT BUY IT***

***EDIT**
Found a thread saying to adjust resolution to fit your screen. This appears to have worked. Made it through a campagin without it crashing but still dont know. If you would be upset to loose the money i wouldent buy it just to be safe.

What can I say, an awesome world conquering game. Control thousands of troops, forge alliances, declare war, negotiate ceasefires and alliances with your emissary, and try to make enough money to keep on. I started playing this game as a teenager, and still love it today.

This game always crashes after a certain point in the campaign. This often happens befor large battles. Loading up an old save does not help as it just crashes again when the same point is reached

Okay, fair enough it crashes every once in a while, as you'll have read on a number of other reviews.

Despite this the game is as good as it ever was. Total War at it's most simple. Save it regularly and the occasional crash will barely bother you.

Saw a lone Swiss King hold off a 1000 strong army of mounted Holy Roman Imperial knights.
Killed the Pope with a catapult.
Launched a crusade against Paris.
Had a king terrified of bald, bearded men. Later, his attempted assassin was a bald, bearded man, whom he killed with a cooking spit.
Brought down the last king of Poland under a hail of musket fire.
Desperately needed heirs so forced my last prince to marry his sister.
Assassinated the Khan of the Golden Horde, causing his empire to collapse in its infancy.
As Egypt, bribed the garrison of Rome into betraying the Papacy and handing me the keys to the city.
Had a militia sergeant survive countless battles to become a one-man morale-14 powerhouse that could carve through an enemy spear formation like they were butter. He later became royal chancellor and governor of Ireland, married a princess and died aged 60. To my knowledge, he never did learn to read.

1000/1000 Best total war game to date.

My first TW game, I played it thousands of hours. The portraits, the soundtrack, the wargamish campaign, everything is perfect and the AI is very challenging. I kept a modified copy of the game on my hard drive since Win 7 was released. I can't say how happy I am to see my favorite game on steam. Best day ever !

I recomend this game as it is still very much worth playing even comp[ared to newer titles. It even gets some things right that the sequal Medieval 2 didn't such as cavalry can dismount before a battle, civil war mechanic, ship travel as in not taking a couple of decades to sail accross the mediterranean and the Glorious Achievements campaign victory conditions. Goes with out saying the ai can handle the risk style campaign map better than how it changed from Rome 1 onwards. The patched version we have on Steam now works perfectly on Win 8.1 64bit without issue. Now I don't have to use my old XP system with an old GPU to run this game. I don't play this game out of reasons of nostalgia but because it is a good game in it's own right.

The Pre-SEGA era:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSc_5Bb7DLQ
I remember battling the Holy Roman Emperor as King of the Danes. I remember charging my Irish kerns and lobbing javelins at rows of French Knights. I remember bribing El Cid and bringing Valencia into the Spanish Empire to battle the encroaching Moors. I also remember being in 5th grade and writing down my accomplishments and drawing pictures of stick people depicting the great sieges I partook in.This was Total War... and I loved it. It's really good to have one of my favorite games of all time back and working on Windows 8.1. It even supports my native 1920x1080 resolution. This is easily the best 9.99 I've spent in months. That is until I partner it with the original Shogun.
