About This Content

The Peninsular Campaign Downloadable Content is a new and independent campaign for Napoleon: Total War based on the conflict in the Spanish Peninsula between 1811 and 1814. It was during this era that the Spanish resistance gave their style of fighting its name: Guerrilla, or the “little war”.
It is 1811 and the war in the Spanish Peninsula has been raging for over two years, with mixed fortunes and heavy casualties for both sides. Following the withdrawal from the Madrid area of the combined armies of Great Britain, Portugal and Spain after the Battle of Talavera in July 1809, Viscount Wellington retreated into Portugal and consolidated his forces. Now Napoleon’s Armée d'Espagne, has invaded Portugal once again but thus far the network of entrenchments has proved impossible for the French to successfully assail. Wellington has planned a fresh offensive to drive the invaders out of Portugal and eventually out of the Peninsula altogether. Although forced back to the edges of their Peninsula by France and the traitors who helped them, Spain is not yet out of the fight. The Supreme Central Junta and its successor the Supreme Regency authorised the forming of local bands to fight guerrilla - the “little war” - against the invaders.
Choose one of the three nations involved - France, Great Britain or Spain - and experience one the most intense conflict of the Napoleonic era.
Features:

  • A new and independent Iberian Peninsula campaign map featuring 32 controllable regions.

  • Three playable nations: the brand new Spanish nation and the existing but revamped France and Great Britain, each with its own unique set of Objectives and Missions, and a new, non-playable Portuguese nation, controlling some of the regions.

  • Play the campaign from three different perspectives, each with a unique feel:
    • The French fight to keep resistance at bay while converting regions to their political alignment.
    • The British are very limited for regions at the start, but receive enough income from Northern Europe and North America that they can afford to liberate regions back to the Spanish in return for Guerrilla aid.
    • The Spanish also have a limited starting position, but have permanent access to Guerrillas for effective battlefield use against the French.
  • 5 new Guerrilla unit types, recruitable by all nations, adept at battlefield stealth and with the added ability to deploy outside of their faction's deployment zones: Tiradores (Skirmisher Infantry), Cazadores, Lanceros (Lancer Cavalry), Husares (Light Cavalry), Leader (General).

  • 28 new units in total, spread across the three playable nations including the British 95th Rifles, the French Vistula Uhlans and the Spanish Coraceros Espanoles.

  • Two new agents to enforce political conversion:
    • Provocateurs (French and British nations only) have the ability to promote anti-opposition sentiment in regions, incite unrest, decreases turn time for research and passively spy.
    • Priests (Spanish and Portuguese nations only) have the ability to promote anti-opposition sentiment in regions and incite unrest.
  • A new Guerrillero agent for the Spanish nation: similar to a Spy but with the new ability to Harass enemy armies - lock them in place for a turn and cause them attrition.

  • Political Alignment system which sees the French battle to increase pro-French sentiment throughout the peninsula.

An epic addition to an already amazing game. It's even better with DarthMod Napoleon, which finally makes Portugal playable.

Bought the game (Napoleon Total War) and began playing this game religiously. I tought to myself if it were time to expand the maps as the current ones felt boring and old, I purchased the Peninsular Campaign however after attempting to play it on multiple occasions, my game would crash immediately. It would not give me any error nor information upon selecting the nation I would play as. This DLC has brought much distaste and has truly dropped the standards of my expectations.

I have read online deleting the user script files and prefferences script would help, but to no avail; their solutions did not work. It also is common among other users which have purchased this DLC. Therefore, in conclusion I strongly believe that this DLC is a 420 no-no to buy as it is a total waste of cha-ching and does not ensure everyone who has purchased it a go-go to play-play br0.

Played the campaign for a few hours, that large area is really hard to defend and you get fustrated easily, the other side even on Easy seems just too powerful for your Econemy. You can never have a big army and the other side is always taking your town.

It is a good challengs though and it is tough to win but enjoyable.

Are you bored of having won the campaign as every nation twice, dominated the world with England 3 times and bribing your enemy into selling you all his provinces? Well dont worry, now you can play another "fun" campaign to satify your aestethic needs

Good Expansion, adds hours of battles and new awsoeme units, but i hate the fact that the portuguese are not considered a major nation, taking in consideration that the first reason why Napoleon invaded the Penisula, wich was to attack the Portuguese and as always Portugal´s role on recent total war games(Empire and Napoleon) is heavily diminuished and forgotten, something i find extremly outrageous and offensive to my nation

>Fired up Pennisular Campaign
>Select Britain because I want to be Sean Bean's best friend
>No Sean Bean
>Tell Wellington to capture a town
>Wellington gets his head blown off by a cannon
>Dies
>Defense falls apart
>France captures the Pennisula
>France wins the Napoleonic Wars because the Pennisula isn't bleeding them anymore
>France invades UK
>UK owns the world, and France owns the UK, so now France owns the world
>World becomes French

10/10 would condemn the world to French tyranny again

This is, without a doubt, the second best DLC for a Total War Game (Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai is the best). It it worth every cent, even at full price. The DLC itself adds 3 new campaigns to Napoleon Total War. You can play as Spain, France or Great Britain, and each faction has a unique feel. Some are unhappy that Portugal is not playable, however mods such as Darthmod add Portugal into the game. This DLC has almost enough content to be a small stand-alone game. There are countless new technologies, agents, troops and buildings that are also added along with an extremely detailed map of Spain. The graphics are excellent and the painstaking detail to uniforms in mind-blowing. I highly recommend this to the casual and serious strategy gamer alike, or to history fans who love the Napoleonic Wars.

An expansion to an expansion, what more could you ask for?

As an aside Sir John Moore is still alive at the start of the campaign something which I find extremly outrageous and offensive to my nation as it cuts down on the potential for awesome poetry about his burial...

A nice little mini-campaign that focuses on a specific theatre of war during the Napoleonic Wars rather than all of Europe. Play as the French, British, or Spanish as you fight for control of the Iberian Peninsula. It has a few new featrues not found in Napoleon in order to add greater depth, but this is still very much the same game.

If you liked Napoleon, then checking this out probably won't be a bad idea. :o

I like how the balance of power is realistic; France has a lot of territory but has to fight against Spanish guerillas and is attacked on all fronts.
