About This Game

On A Roll 3D

Roll your way through 24 huge levels across six different themes in this fast, colourful 3D platform game.

Be prepared to take on spikes, mines, dynamite, conveyor belts, springs, switches, doors, bumpers, lasers, saws, fire, ice, water, electricity, trapdoors and much much more. Each level has three areas you must navigate your way through, battling a host of enemies along the way, then a fourth and final area where you must take on one of the six end-of-level bosses! Grab the protective stars as you go and keep an eye out for the many hidden bonuses to help you on your way.

On A Roll 3D is a classic platformer that mixes the regular 2D format with a 3D twist as many of the platforms cross in front of each other. There are plenty of puzzles thrown in that combine realistic physics and logical reasoning with switches, levers and pushable blocks required to open doors and trapdoors, and to reach otherwise inaccessible places.

On A Roll 3D is an immensely fun and very challenging retro platform game!

This is a neat little puzzle game overall. Controls are dead simple, and the graphics are overall OK. There is basically one music track throughout that, while good in and of itself, got annoying to hear after awhile. Also, the camera work really made me nauseous and I had to stop after 15 mins. Too bad really...it's definitely a nice relaxing sort of puzzle game otherwise.

Fun and quick platformer game. Controls are quite precise and you never feel like you should have survived but died because of the game being faulty.

Couple hours of fun for 4€, you can also grab it during sale at which point it will probably be 2€ or even less.

This may be one of the very few satisfying platformers out there. The controls are very sharp, how you progress is purely up to your skill and not the game failing to deliver the desired action.
PROs:
- very sharp control, one of the best out there
- some intriguing mechanics, like door switches or the upside down switch
- the price vs content (although I got it in a bundle)
- offers some diversity
- rolling in circles make it feel a bit like the Sonic game I never got
- has trading cards
CONs:
- it feels like there should be more levels, and features are being underused, like the upside down switch being in just 2 levels in there.
- graphics not on par with 2015 release date and some flickering shadows in certain levels.
- uninspired, even boring boss fights.

In conclusion, I'd love to see the same mechanics being used again in a game with more levels and focus on interesting ways to use the powers, and reconsider or give up the boss fights.

On A Roll 3D is a platformer game that surprised me. From the looks of it, this game looked like something someone threw together real quick, and just happened to get it greenlit on Steam. However, I gave it a fair chance, thanks to the Steam Summer Sale, and really enjoyed it.

In On A Roll 3D, you play as a ball, and simply roll to the end using basic platforming skills. Each world has various different mechanics added to it to make the game feel fresh on every new world, and the level design is really solid. If you've ever played a Sonic the Hedgehog game, the level design for On A Roll 3D very much resemble these games. The controls are very responsive, and have never failed me in my entire playthrough of the game.

Graphically, the game looks like an older PC game from back in the day. It doesn't look too good, but the simplicity of the game gives this graphic style a bit of charm as well. The soundtrack is pretty bland, with only a handful of memorable tracks (mainly the title screen music).

While the game is pretty short, with my playthrough lasting close to 2 hours, On A Roll 3D is definitely worth purchasing, if you're a fan of platforming games. I feel that this game is worth $4, and I can't help but feel that lots of people are going to miss out on this title. The only reason I wouldn't recommend this game, is if the graphics don't look appealing to you, or if you simply don't like the platformer genre. If you're still on the fence about On A Roll 3D, wait for the game to be at least $2-$3 before purchasing.

On A Roll 3D is a simple, yet highly entertaining game. While the game could definitely get a little repetitive after an hour or two of gameplay, it's packed with enough content to keep it interesting, ranging from different kind of enemies, boss battles and colorful and interesting environments - which frankly I find rather surprising considering the cheap price tag.

It's a simple game, but very funny
is an arcade with action, adventure and remember some retro game like Sonic, Mario and Crash Bandicot.

The graphs are decent, nice 3D with simple textures and some polygons that can be better but works well anyway.
The sound is nice, and the control is smooth and fast, great for some casual playing anytime.

I can recommend this, have trading cards, and I catched it on a bundle for some cents.

Bought my key in a Otakumaker Bundle.

The premise is pretty simple ,you guide your ball though various obstacles on a track and some platforming.
You also get to use your bally self to push /move items .
As expected you start off easy ,I've only played two levels so far so i don't know how difficult it gets .

It's a fun game , it reminds of those " 3D ! " games you used to see on windows 95 .

The controls on the keyboard are pretty tight and work well ,which makes it all the more enjoyable.

I can see myself getting addicted to to this as it's a relaxing and challenging game to play at the end of the day
when you'd rather not be playing some bullet hell game.

A cute game that deserves to do well .
A big thumbs up from me.

sidenote:
i keep hearing sesame street in the background music :)

On A Roll 3D as its name implies is a 3D platformer game but it is essentially a 2D side scroller with 3D sprites.

Gameplay is simple with helpful tooltips to guide you along the first few levels. However, I experienced some freezes while playing the game; that may just be my lousy PC though.

The controls are smooth; and surprisingly, this game physics are pretty elaborate for such simple platformer. The camera pans quickly too.

I noticed some flickering textures which may be due to the shadows and lighting. Although distracting, it does not impact the gameplay.

A better Sonic game than Sonic 4 will ever be. Even has an annoying hint system like Omochao.

In all seriousness, it is nice cheap and simple platformer that is also very charming.

Pretty amazing platformer, very impressed in my first 10 minutes of playthrough. Nothing groundbreaking, but does everything correctly. Good amount of challenge and replaybility (to get the perfect score), offers a variety of different levels, some puzzles here and there, and most importantly the controls are very responsive. If you are looking for a cheap platformer to pass your time, I can fully recommend this game and you will have a blast for your day.

Interesting game in that the graphics/art style have a retro PS1/N64 look to them. I don't mean that in a bad way and I think that was the aim of the devs here, so if you grew up with those kind of games like I did you'll probably get a nice feeling of nostalgia when playing.

My initial impressions after about a half hour of it is it controls well on my gamepad, which is critical for this kind of game. Doesn't seem to suffer any major performance issues either. Gameplay is a bit slower then a Sonic game & level design doesn't get that complex, but also generally doesn't feel frustrating which is a plus.

Overall it plays fine and has enough variety in the traps, differences in the zones, and overall content to keep you busy for a little while. For the price of a cup of coffee it's worth the couple hours you'll get out of it.

I played a bit.
The location of the game reminds me of GreenHill Zone from Sonic The Hedgehog.
It also reminds me of Sonic that you collect stars instead on rings.
When you're attacked or hit an obstacle, you lose stars. No stars means game over
Enemies and bosses are killed by jumping on them.

I swear, this is like Sonic XD but... A ball ouo

Sonic The Ball? Huh, hm overall. This is a pretty good game, especially for achievements

I loved original Rayman on PlayStation. It had magnificent levels, absolutely awesome soundtrack and overally it gave to its player really good feeling despite having sometimes really challenging difficulty. In conclusion, it was a great success.

Reason, why I brought Rayman to here is how On A Roll 3D's beautiful retro-style gameplay reminds me of it a lot.

- It has tiny puzzles every here and there, where you have to think most usually from one vision to few seconds to how to accomplish it, whilst not being just runthrough over the maps.
- Levels are looking pretty with their effects (snowfall on mountains etc.) and the atmosphere while completing area stays entertaining from the start to the ending.
- Map designs have been made remembering both player-types: common casual players and speedrunners.
- Achievements are easily obtainable (pretty quick 100% for achievement hunters!).

Every level has its own soundtrack, which are decent and for every enemy type there is own sound effect, which are well chosen (or made).

Only downside which I've seen is that game has constant frame drops (60fps -> 51/55) but only when played in windowed mode. It seems that this behaviour happens only, if your desktop frequency is set over 60hz and you're using windowed mode, since game is locked on 60fps.

Tl;Dr: If you liked good, old games like Sonic's and Rayman's, you most probably like this too. 3,99€/$ is a worthy price for such pleasure from this game.

Introduction
On a Roll 3D is a simple retro platformer where you roll around trying to get to the end goal while collecting stars. If you think that sounds an awful lot like Sonic the Hedgehog you’d be right. This game is clearly inspired by old school Sonic games, from the level designs and graphics to the way bosses are destroyed. This a fun game in its own right and also pretty darn cute as well. There is however no story to be told.

Gameplay
You roll around, that’s about it. While you roll you have to collect stars and avoid dangerous death spikes, lasers and the like. There are also enemies along the way but you can easily jump on their heads and dispatch of them, the thing I had the biggest issue is was jumping onto small platforms and making sure I didn’t roll off since it is a ball and balls tend to roll. Your ball does not have any special powers or abilities which is a shame. A little something to spice things up every now and again would be fun. My favorite part of the gameplay was the puzzle aspect thrown in. Door in the way? You have to hit the switch or put something on top of it to get through.

I used a game controller to play the game and the responses were good. The only issue I had was that I could not find a button on my controller that would pause the game, I still had to use my keyboard for that. The retro feel of the game is really compliment by being able to use the controller. I also just figured out after over two hours of play that you can change the color of the ball so I made mine pink.

Graphics/Audio
For me the graphics reminded me too much of Sonic the Hedgehog, like the first level looks strikingly similar to Green Hill Zone. However, the graphics aren’t so much of a direct copy and more of homage, that being said I do think the graphics could have been polished a bit more. The graphics are more akin to a Playstation One game than what I would expect in 2016. While graphics aren’t everything and this game is fun either way, they could have invested a little more into it. The audio is fine, though, the levels have catchy tunes and I had no issue there at all.

Pros

+ The game is very cheap.
+ Offers a good amount of gameplay for the price, game has six levels with three areas each plus a boss battle each time.
+ Overall presentation looks good.
+ It has trading cards.

Cons

- Only one play mode, no time trials or hidden areas that I could find.
- While the graphics weren’t bad they could have been better, the menu interfaces were also simplistic.

Final Thoughts
I do recommend this game to players who enjoy platformers, the game has a nice price tag and is well made. It’s fun, colorful and has great controls. This game also has achievements which are relatively easy to collect which is another draw. Buy it, play it and enjoy it you won’t regret it.
