About This Game

Dead Synchronicity stands as a modern adventure classic, telling a dark, sad and brutal tale that will leave you wanting more, but equally satisfied.
80% - Adventure Gamers

Darkness.

And then there was light… but not enough for Michael to find out who he is and what happened to the world out there. The “Great Wave”, the “dissolved”... are just hollow words in his looted mind.

"Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today" is the first part of the "Dead Synchronicity" series:
Help Michael face a dying reality, a universe that’s fading away. Face a merciless world that gets sick and vanishes. Face no past, no present, no future. Face the impending moment of “dead synchronicity”.
And you’d better hurry. Because, otherwise... what will you do when Time dissolves itself?

A terrible pandemic is turning all of humanity into “the dissolved” - the sick whose deliria provide them with supernatural cognitive powers... but also steer them towards a gruesome death.

The root of this illness seems to be “the Great Wave”, an inexplicable chain of natural disasters that destroyed all energy sources and communications and plunged the world into a chaos ruthlessly controlled by both the authorities and the army alike.

Michael, a man with no past, will have to recover his identity and decode the events that brought the world to the edge of collapse. Because, if he doesn’t hurry, he won’t be able to avoid the impending moment of “dead synchronicity”, when Time itself dissolves…

Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today is a point and click adventure that features a stunning dystopian plot, a distinctive, expressionist 2D art style, and an atmospheric soundtrack.
The game pays homage to classic adventures (The Secret of Monkey Island, Broken Sword, Day of the Tentacle...) but revolves around a more mature theme, along the lines of games such as I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream or Sanitarium.

KEY FEATURES

  • Classic adventure gameplay combined with mature theme
  • 2D graphics featuring a unique, expressionist style
  • Space-time distortions, a dystopian atmosphere... and a dark, bloodstained plot
  • Featuring soundtrack from indie rock band Kovalski (available as DLC)
  • "Guybrush meets Mad Max meets 12 Monkeys"

Starts out good. Graphics are nice and voice acting is great. Story is mature, depressing, but the scifi aspects come up short. Game seems to try to pull off a plot twist which is so obvious, that everyone knew about it from the first 5 minutes of gameplay.

And the puzzles leave a lot to be desired. Nothing can really be figured out. As soon as you get on the solitary train of logic it's all obvious, but until you find that random object, you just randomly wander around.

I highly suggest buying this game on sale because while I do recommend playing this game, the $20 price tag is too much for only half of a two part series.

Dead Synchronicity definitely does its atmosphere and setting right. The mystery of the "Great Wave" and the literal dissolution of time got me quickly pulled into the story. To fit this dismal apocalyptic premise the art style is equally as grim and messy and the "New World" is shown in all of its raw glory through this. People fend for themselves even sacrificing others so that they may get some "Old World" luxuries back. People are shot on sight for merely looking at a soldier wrong. Hope seems to be a fleeting thing. So visually the game's got it good and is the setting. As for the main character, as likeable as Michael is, he doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. Ingame there are two situations which could've easily been avoided had he just shut up and insulted the "savages" on his own time. Also he has a knack for not being able to connect the dots (maybe that's the fault of the Great Wave?). SPOILERS: There's a point where Michael learns that people with the disease of the dissolved have the ability to experience trances and visions that let them see events that have happened or have yet to happen, even talk to the dead. Throughout the game, Michael experiences visions of past and future events but COMPLETELY fails to realize that he may be dissolved himself until the very last moments of the game.

The narrative has no major issues for most of the game until a person from Michael's past appears and proceeds to do an exposition dump about things like the Great Wave and the Dead Synchonicity Point. To which I really wanted to question him about where the man got his sources. The worst issue this game has however is the ending. It was so abrupt that as soon as the credits came on I thought it was a joke but it wasn't. There was no feeling that the game was coming to a close, in fact I thought I was going to help my friend ingame to further solve the mystery of the Dead Synchronicity Point. There was no indication from the game nor the game's store page that this was one part of a two part series! I had to search the forums to get an official confirmation from one of the game dev's. Their responses to a few forum posts were a year old but they definitely said that Dead Synchronicity: Underground Highways was in preproduction.

This is a point and click game with a unique grim premise and for any fan of point-and-click but it's marred by a terrible ending and a long wait for the sequel.

Okay, The "Dead Synchronicity" was a kind of an interesting game. It was a new genre for me, but I ended up liking it at some points. I can see today that this is not my kind of game, but I understand too now, why some people have a love for these kind of point-and-click indie games.

The game itself actually had a very deep story, even though the game wasn't that long. The puzzles were great but some times a little bit too hard. I feel like I should like this game, but afterwards it just felt so.. bad in a way. Sorry to say this, but every time I played this, I started to get really dizzy after 10 minuttes of gameplay.

I seriously felt like I was about to die and just hated my life. Which was really creepy, because of the similarities I felt, that me and the character (Michael) in game, ended up having. This game may be good, but I guarantee you, it's hard too - For body and mind.

To be fair, I will never play this again, and wish I could delete this depresing experince from my subconsciousness

A OK adventure game.
You wake up in a end of the world scenario (with amnesia) and want to find answers.
You do tasks for people and eventually you find answers.
You get a revelation of something that should have been long obvious, and then the game ends all of a sudden.
The "Dead Synchronicity" is only used as a game mechanic once, close to the end, the rest of the times it is used as annoying cutscenes.
The game also has monologues to show how the character feels about his choices to get more character development, as if you had any options.

Obviously haven't played much but I just couldn't keep going.
The writing in this game isn't very good, though I think it's REALLY intended to be. The attitudes of people don't match the scene and it's distracting. People go from super mad to super chill in the space of two sentences.

**MORE SPOILERISH**
The world is not terribly convincing. Ok, so there are "moles"... Except everyone knows who they are and they have gate passes? But they're supposed to be spies? Are the writers sure they know what a spy is or how real spies operate? The "highly-contagious epidemic" is also neither of those things as it is supposedly some kind of selective disease as the parents spend time hanging out with their sick kid.
**END SPOILERISHNESS**

Maybe something is revealed later about the truth behind these things. I just couldn't imagine that after those and several other gross misunderstandings about how humanity handles crises and challenges that the writing would get a whole lot more convincing.

*BE WARNED THIS GAME IS ONLY PART ONE OF A PLANNED STORY*

Most people would take this ending of everything they once knew and loved as a sign to give up hope on ever having a life worth living again, but not Michael. He is the type of character who demands to know what caused this atrocity to happen and the type of character that would never give up on finding out his true identity at any cost. It’s from here that the story really kicks off, letting you loose amongst a refugee camp controlled by the army who have seized power since everything fell apart. According to them it’s either their way or the end of a gun. The rest of the camp have given up hope of ever leaving this pile of junk and have instead resorted to surviving on their own wit and strength and whether you like it or not you now have to do the same.

$20 for a point-and-click adventure game is not bad. $20 for a point-and-click adventure game that leaves the story entirely unfinished without you waiting for, and then purchasing, the sequel is terrible. Had I known that it was incomplete, I would have at least waited until I could get the entire experience before playing this one. Don't get me wrong, doing chapter-by-chapter games can work, but only if you inform customers that the product itself is designed that way. Zero warning "To Be Continued" is not a promise of things to come, so much as a promise that things aren't yet. By the time a sequel comes out, I won't really remember this one anymore, nor will I care enough to come back and play it again.

A very solid first adventure game from Fictiorama studios. The subject matter (the eventual temporal death of everything) gives this game a much darker storyline than is common in this genre and in fact I was genuinely shocked by one or two set pieces.

I played through a press copy of the game, and found the puzzles to be generally on point, except for one part where the solution was really subtle and I missed i completely for about an hour. The logic of the puzzles make sense for the most part.

Voice acting is present throughout, there are a few characters which are 'misses' but in general it is very well done, and breathes life into the surroundings, and makes you care about the characters a lot more than if it was just text. The music is pretty cool too, a prog rock style that just about meshes with the surroundings, and the art style is very fresh, and unlike anything I've seen before.

If you're looking for a new, dark point and click that has obviously been made with a lot of love, you couldn't do much better than checking out Dead Synchronicity.

If you are interested, I made an interview with the devs about the process of making the game: http://www.goplaythat.com/2015/04/03/13-more-questions-with-fictiorama-studios/

Great setting, atmposphere and plot points. Voice acting top notch all the way as well as the artstyle.

Until you feel cheated at the ending of course, with no sense of closure or feeling of a cliffhanger.

WARNING! Abrupt Ending! Out of nowhere this game jumps to a credit screen. No indication that this game was supposed to be part of a series, or episodic. No real climax or resolution. Just a jarring message box after finishing a puzzle that says "You have been playing Dead Synchronicity." Nothing else about the game is really important. Maybe if they finish this game later I will update my review, but as it stands right now, I cannot reccomend purchasing or playing this game.

A bleak point'n'click adventure set in the aftermath of a catastrophe that has left Earth in shambles. You play as a clean slate amnesiac waking up in an internment camp, attempting to piece together both your past and the nature of the global extinction level event.

Dead Synchronicity doesn't pull its punches. Featuring an oppressive, dystopian society with no safety nets left, the cruelties on display lend a grim, mundane realism to the environment. The story itself veers to a more fantastical direction, but remains grounded enough to keep itself interesting.

The puzzles are balanced nicely (only got stuck once), the graphics are stylish even with the sparse animation, and the length is quite nice for a game in this price range. However, there are some weak points.

The music and sound aren't terribly interesting and some of the voice acting is a bit subpar, but primarily I had issues with dialogue and characterization. The quality of writing varies wildly, and especially the internal monologue of the protagonist sometimes paints a picture of him as, well, kind of a prejudicious jerk.

This is a problem because the theme of Dead Synchronicity is all about attempting to cling onto your morality in a world where no-one else gives a damn. Sure, the hero is flawed and has to get his hands dirty during the proceedings, but his actions clearly take their toll on him and don't just get shrugged off. Therefore I found the scenes of the protagonist passing judgement on people he hadn't even talked with yet somewhat jarring.

My absolutely biggest gripe, however, is that Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today is not a complete game. The story eventually reaches a point where some light is finally shed on the reasons and scope of the catastrophe, you feel the tension ramping up and then - the credits roll. Nothing gets resolved. You're left with a huge cliffhanger and lots of plot threads swaying in the wind.

This really caught me by suprise. After re-checking the Kickstarter campaign and Steam store pages, sure enough, they do mention the game being a series, but I don't really think the fact has been communicated clearly enough in the marketing. I don't think there's even been any mention about when part two is going to be released. So if you're expecting for any kind of a resolution or even a bookend, know that you're not going to find it here.

Anyhow, I do have to give the creators credit for creating an adventure game that stands out from the usual crime thrillers and Tolkien derivatives. I was left craving for more, and will surely be picking up the sequel. I just wish I'd have some kind of a clue when that time will arrive.

I really enjoyed playing this game. Definately recommended.

Pros:
- No bugs/glitches encountered
- Intuitive, easy yet functional game mechanics
- Very special story: interesting characters, good narrative (!)
- Nice visuals / graphic design
- Decent voice acting*
- Getting stuck (not knowing what to do) is very rare

*I just read a thread in the forums about the "terrible" voice acting of this game. I can definately not confirm that. Its maybe not the very best or special but absoluteley ok (both, the german and also the english voice acting, I played both).

Cons:
- Relativeley short (my 11 hours come from multiple playthrough due to "achievement hunting" and not closing the game while doing something else for 3 or 4 hours or so): You can finish the game in three or four hours.
- No hint-system, if you get stuck you need to look into a walkthrough (but thats rare)
- Pretty easy. No puzzles or riddles at all, just the usual figuring out what to do /combine with what/use on what - and thats not really difficullt here, for me a little -too- easy.
- Very sudden and open ending: It feels like the game ends in the middle of the story. Very unsatisfying and frustrating. But maybe there will be a sequel? In this case, this wouldnt be a con no longer of course but on the other hand the devs should inform the users that they have to buy (at least) a second game to get the full story - wouldnt be fair to keep something like that back. Thats an aspect I really dont like about this game... but in spite of that, its still a good game.

One thing is important to emphasise: This game gets its life from the story, the narrative > the dialogues and cutscenes. The gameplay is the less important (and shorter) part. If you would skip all dialogues and cutscenes and just do whats necessary this would probably take less than 45 min. I dont mean it as something negative, I really like story-rich games, but it is something you should know before buying this game. If you are rather bored of long dialogues and an elaborate storytelling and as much gameplay and action as possible is the most important thing for you, you could possibly consider this game a little lengthy.

At the same time this makes the game so intense and immersive. The story is very special und well transacted by the dialogues, the characters and so on. All thumbs up for the narrative!

7/10 (would have been 8 if the story didnt stop suddenly without a real ending)

Concidering that there will be a sequel (I cant believe that the story really ends this sudden and without an ending) and you have to pay for another game to get the complete story, grab it on 50% sale.

This game has a beautiful art style, great atmosphere, and a decent story. It suffers from the usual illogic of this type of adventure game (using the car seat on the window? really?) but mostly can be tackled head on. The real issue is that at a certain point in the game it

ends.

Abruptly. I can only assume the game will be episodic? Or something? It was such a shock it really ruined the experience for me. It was less of a cliffhanger, and more of just cutting off mid-thought. Jarring, and unpleasant.

A refreshing, mature, high res addition to the selection of modern adventure games.

Some of its strengths and features:
  • Highly stylised, high res art.
  • Unafraid of dark, mature themes.
  • Good puzzle design. Everything is logical. Difficulty is well balanced.
  • Plenty of cutscenes.
  • Well written with a good pace and tone, for the most part.
  • Catchy music.
  • Seamless transitions between standard and conversational views (zoom effect).

And some of its weaker points:
  • Non-ending; it's part 1 of the Dead Synchronicity series but it doesn't really complete an arc.
  • Climax is predictable.
  • Spends a lot of time setting up convoluted plot devices with insufficient pay off.
  • Conversations are often too verbose, and at the beginning, too close together.
  • Sometimes waxes poetic, slightly corny.
  • One of the horror scenes is rather gratuitous.

All told, DS:TCT is a very solid point & click. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's the best in Daedalic's catalogue, which is an impressive feat considering it's made by just 5 guys (Fictiorama Studios) who are mostly new to game development. I was an enthusiastic backer and beta tester on this and have zero regrets. Also, Fictiorama are really top guys. I don't think they've peaked yet and they deserve more attention.
