What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The core gameplay was always perfectly balanced but, as a multiplayer-only arena FPS, elements like the matchmaking, stats and other back-end mechanics need to be solidly established and tested before a full launch. The Early Access release is designed to get people involved and ultimately make sure that everything about the game is as great as the actual shooting!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Originally, the scope of improving Ratz Instagib was fairly limited but, as time has gone on, we've added more goodies and improvements than we can keep count of! With the RatzEd Map Editor now complete, we're just in the process of making some final enhancements – as such, we anticipate that the full version of the game will launch in Summer 2016.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“It's simply about everything being bigger and better. As more players come on board, the custom map pool will grow and more people will be attracted to play. Once you go Ratz, you never go back(z)!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, everything is pretty much there. The gameplay as it is couldn't be more finely tuned, so it was always just about making everything else around it bigger and better. With the new map editor, customisation options and extra layers of polish all in though, we're so close that we can almost smell the cheese...”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The Early Access price will stay as is, but the finished game might cost slightly more as it'll have extra content and delivered a more complete experience thanks to the balancing and other work. That said, it's a multiplayer game, so buying packs of keys to share with your friends is always a better idea and helps keep the cost down!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“All player feedback will be taken in and used to improve the game. We'll also be pitching ideas out to players to see what else we can do to make the overall Ratz experience even better.”

Ratz Update 2.3.1 - Targeting Trolls with Map Approval!

Hello fellow map-makers!

You'll be glad to know that I've made a significant change to the workshop system with regards to maps. Sadly, there appears to be no end to the posting of so-called 'troll' maps, so I've had to come up with a new system to counteract them. Now, if you publish a map, it won't appear in the in-game voting queue until we approve it on the back-end. This means that only finished (or sufficiently playable) maps will be available to vote on in-game!

However, I've also opened a new sub-forum called 'New Map Approval'. If you post your map in this area, it will be reviewed much faster. Add some screenshots and information about the map and the chances are much higher of it getting approved!

When building your map, please keep in mind that you can still play/test any map in a private game, even if it's not approved yet. Approvals are only for maps that go community-wide.

Have fun in a troll-free environment!

Ratz Update 2.3.0 - True Fullscreen and return of the Ratz Server!

Hello!

Don't worry, it's just a small update this time…

True/Exclusive Fullscreen
It was tough to implement True Fullscreen in Unity! Basically, if the game was minimized, Unity would stop the whole game and anything that was currently being processed, including networking operations. This led to some rather weird player synchronising problems. However, I found a way to remedy this – I hope my approach is working as intended!

True Fullscreen enables the game to run at its full potential - most importantly, faster input processing and more frames per second!

I'd recommend everyone to look into the Options menu and set the "Display Mode" to "Exclusive Fullscreen" and also to report any unexpected behaviour!

Return of the Ratz Server
The Ratz Server is a separate tool to create your own dedicated "Ratz Master Server" capable of holding up to 100 players on one computer. Perfect for LAN Events! It's
been disabled for a while now, since it didn't work with the current version of Ratz.
But that's resolved now! You will find the Server files in your Ratz installation folder, allowing you to set your own servers up.

Keep fragging!

Reviews

“Ratz Instagib is just delightful. It's the game I've played the most so far this year, and I really can't stop.”
PC Gamer

“I don't think rat giblets are a thing, but the little critters seem pretty easy to cook after you've shot them with a rail gun.”
Giant Bomb

About This Game

Fast, frantic and full of blasting fun – take to the rat-tlefield and join the Ratz Instagib revolution!

Duke it out as a railgun-toting rat in household-themed arenas, with every shot being a potential kill – no shooting opponents repeatedly to little effect or suffering cheap deaths at the hands of people with an unfair advantage. It's every rat for themselves!

  • One Gun, One Shot – An even playing field means almost anyone can immediately pick up Ratz and start having fun, no matter what their FPS skill level.
  • Rocket Jumping – Use the dedicated 'Rocket Jump' button to mix up your movement; moving targets are harder to hit!
  • Maps – Enjoy 13 different maps based on real-world household environments, plus tonnes of user-created arenas!
  • Customisation – Unlock loads of customisation items to jazz up your Ratz, then choose from loads of beam and frag types to really show off your style.
  • Modes – The best that FPS action has to offer: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture The Flag and the almighty Freeze Tag!
  • Stats and Leaderboards – Fully integrated stat-tracking and leaderboards to help keep track of your progress… can you become the best rat around?
  • RatzEd Map Editor – Create your own stages and share them with the community via Steam Workshop – easy to use, but incredibly versatile

I dont reccommend it, beacuase few people play it. If you have friends that are willing to play it, then go ahead. The game is fast paced, but lacks any depth, meaning it gets dull rather quickly.
