Release day celebration - 20% off!

Hi everyone!

Well, it's been a long time coming - nearly 18 months since we first launched Ratz Instagib into Early Access, in fact - but finally, today is the full release of the game!

Since Ratz first went into EA, the game has come along massively; from localisation and new maps to the addition of character customisation and the from-the-ground-up creation of the RatzEd map editor, Lino's done an amazing job on every part of development. And let's not forget, he did this entirely on his own! If anyone deserves a standing ovation here, it's him.

Of course, today being release day means the real adventure for Ratz Instagib is just beginning! And to celebrate, we've set up a release discount of 20% for the next seven days - that means you can gift keys to your friends and get them all involved on the exciting blasting action.

We hope you'll all join us in saying congrats to Lino for everything he's done and help us spread the word that finally, the day of the Ratz has come!

The RSG team

Ratz Update 2.3.1 - Targeting Trolls with Map Approval!

Hello fellow map-makers!

You'll be glad to know that I've made a significant change to the workshop system with regards to maps. Sadly, there appears to be no end to the posting of so-called 'troll' maps, so I've had to come up with a new system to counteract them. Now, if you publish a map, it won't appear in the in-game voting queue until we approve it on the back-end. This means that only finished (or sufficiently playable) maps will be available to vote on in-game!

However, I've also opened a new sub-forum called 'New Map Approval'. If you post your map in this area, it will be reviewed much faster. Add some screenshots and information about the map and the chances are much higher of it getting approved!

When building your map, please keep in mind that you can still play/test any map in a private game, even if it's not approved yet. Approvals are only for maps that go community-wide.

Have fun in a troll-free environment!

“Ratz Instagib is just delightful. It's the game I've played the most so far this year, and I really can't stop.”
PC Gamer

“I don't think rat giblets are a thing, but the little critters seem pretty easy to cook after you've shot them with a rail gun.”

About This Game

Fast, frantic and full of blasting fun – take to the rat-tlefield and join the Ratz Instagib revolution!

Duke it out as a railgun-toting rat in household-themed arenas, with every shot being a potential kill – no shooting opponents repeatedly to little effect or suffering cheap deaths at the hands of people with an unfair advantage. It's every rat for themselves!

  • One Gun, One Shot – An even playing field means almost anyone can immediately pick up Ratz and start having fun, no matter what their FPS skill level.
  • Rocket Jumping – Use the dedicated 'Rocket Jump' button to mix up your movement; moving targets are harder to hit!
  • Maps – Enjoy 13 different maps based on real-world household environments, plus tonnes of user-created arenas!
  • Customisation – Unlock loads of customisation items to jazz up your Ratz, then choose from loads of beam and frag types to really show off your style.
  • Modes – The best that FPS action has to offer: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture The Flag and the almighty Freeze Tag!
  • Stats and Leaderboards – Fully integrated stat-tracking and leaderboards to help keep track of your progress… can you become the best rat around?
  • RatzEd Map Editor – Create your own stages and share them with the community via Steam Workshop – easy to use, but incredibly versatile

I got this game a couple days ago and immedietly bought 2 more copies for my friends. The gameplay is very smooth, despite the fact I play on a potato and get a constant 40 FPS. Rocket jumping is so much fun to just do when you're alone and, if I can ever find the map editor, I'm looking forward to making a couple of my own, solely to be able to jump around it. However, the player base is currently way WAY too small; the game deserves more players.

There's also a decent customisation system. How about that.

Overall, the game is too much fun and it saddens me greatly that not enough people know it, but whatever, there's a high skill cap and lots of stuff you can tweak and unlock so I'm looking forward to many more happy hours spent playing.

I haven't played this game for very long, but already I notice one massive flaw, the marketing

This game is by no means bad, infact within the short time I've played it I've enjoyed myself, but the severe lack of marketing crippled this game from the start, that and the title of the game due to the negative connatations I'm sure everyone has with the word 'rat' in video games. The title is honestly ♥♥♥♥ing horrid.

I'm looking at you bad rats

Apart from the lack of marketing, this game is great. The maps are nice, graphics are nice, and the gameplay is nice. Overall this game is nice. I'm not claiming that it is GOTY material, because it isn't. With that said, however, it is indeed a great instagib game, and certainly one of the better ones within recent years. Would I reccommend it? Yeah, sure. That is if you have friends that would also enjoy this game. If not, then maybe, because it is still a lot of fun by yourself.

Overall, It's a 6/10. If it weren't for the appalling marketing team I would give this game an 8/10. It seems quite disappointing to see such a good game go to waste, but as is life I suppose.

Like a quake 3 railgun instagib server, with 10 times the playercount.

1 x 10 is still only 10 but it's a start.

A fast paced FPS heavily influenced by Quake and it's Rail gun. Highly recommend checking it out if you you're a fan of arena shooters.

Amazing bit of fun and a great sound track to boot even if it does get a little bit repetitive after the 3rd track.

pros:
- 1minute to download
- Extremely addictive
- Very skilled (similar to first Quake: fast, accurate, bunnyhopping)
- There are some skins but not too many cosmetics overall in order not to distract too much from the gameplay
- Soundtrack (gorgeous jazzy-DnB)
- Even playing with 600 ping your game will feel super smooth

cons:
- lack players sadly
- workshop with maps from the community could help the game to grow

Conclusion
It may be my new favorite game, i would recommend any fan of old-school fast-paced FPS (Quake style) to buy it without a doubt!
