“It's like magic, guys. Time disappears when this game and I are together, and I never want it to end.”

“Flywrench is probably the best “hard” game I’ve played all year. I can’t get enough.”
Patrick Klepek - Kotaku

About This Game

Flip your ship’s polarity between three different colors to get around obstacles. Each maneuver that you perform, such as flapping like a bird, or tumbling like a baton, changes its color. Match the ship's color with a shape's to pass through it, hit an obstacle as the wrong color and fail. The pace is unrelenting and, in a blink, the challenge resets without penalty. Flywrench is accompanied by an epic electronic music soundtrack curated by Daedelus.

Single-Player Campaign

Play through over 170 levels as you ride the carrier wave from the outskirts of the solar system into the sun.

Music

Featuring tracks by Daedelus, Dntel, Goodnight Cody, Knife City, Kuh Lida, Machinedrum, Baths, Danny Scrilla + Om Unit, Syndakit, Spazzkid, and Sweatson Klank.

Messhof's been working on this game for so long now. I was a big fan of the freeware version from back in 2007, and this is an improvement in every way. Fast, tough, smooth, challenging, fair. It has everything you want from a masocore game, as well as having an interesting control scheme and a wonderful trashy glitchy aesthetic. To top it off, there's a Steamworks integrated level editor, which I'm sure will be flooded with neat stuff soon enough. If you like tough games, this is for you.

I died over 500 times in my first hour. Glorious.

If you get any amount of enjoyment from such wonderfully frustrating games as N, VVVVVV or Super Meatboy, you owe it to yourself to get Flywrench.

Every control and visual element is impeccably precise, meaning you have full contol over the incredible twitch gameplay. You respawn in an in instant meaning you can happily die a hundred times a minute and still keep trying.

Also it has a beast of a soundtrack.

Spent thirty minutes trying to complete a level that was probably 12 seconds long. Loved every second of it.

Playing Flywrench is like sitting in a train speeding through the night, engines burning, coal smeared, breathing smoke, cosmos wheeling in a black firmament, wheelspokes spinning like a hungry and frenzied gyre, trajectory perfect—as through ether—your path undeflected, gold-jacketed, solid silver. Until you reach the end, tossed, cooling, one hand to the other. Happy, quieted.

hello darkness my old friend

No really, this game is pretty cool. It started out as a freeware title that I obsessed over for a few years. It was simplistic but genius in its execution and design and overall a really memorable and fun experience. This game (I've only been playing for like 45 minutes but I'm already in love) seems to improve on the original, with a more stable-feeling engine and a more satisfying approach to flying and flapping and sliding through gates. It seems to be quite easier as well but again I'm not that far into it yet.

It's great. Play it or something.

A totally no-frills frantic action game which will punish you for being bad.

Incredible amounts of fun with straightforward, extremely tight controls and every level is unique.

And the soundtrack is funky as f&%$ too. If there's a place where I can buy that please point me in the direction where I need to throw money at.

It's like Flappy Bird mated with Ikaruga, but in an awesome and addictive way and not a creepy Frankenstein way.

So, so good.

I had no idea that this was slated for a Steam release (or any kind of release for that matter), but this was an insta-buy because I played the original waaay back after playing Super Meat Boy (didn't we all play Flywrench, Jumper, Mighty Jill-Off, Runman, etc. after meeting them in Super Meat Boy — at least if we hadn't met them before?), and while the game kicked my ♥♥♥ back then, I've gotten older and better so here we are for round two...

This game is fast and hard (like Brannigan's law and Brannigan's love) and frantic, and it's still kicking my ♥♥♥ but this time around I at least feel like I'm giving the game a run for its money. One of the things that makes the game feel so hectic is the fact that there is no way to take it easy for a while — not even for a tenth of a second — and try to assess the situation. You're constantly getting hurled around in space with no backwards thrusters ... and you WILL enjoy it. But seriously though, in terms of speed this game makes Super Hexagon look like Hello Kitty compared to Sonic. And it's friggin' awesome!

Such fast. Much satisfying. Very soundtrack. So colors. Many recommends. Wow!

I tried Flywrench not knowing 100% what to expect, but I quickly found one of the coolest, snappiest arcade/action games around. It's simple and focused, with the magic lying in incredibly precise controls, smart mechanics, great pacing, and clever level design. It's short and tough, but I've been having a total blast with it. Completey worth it for anyone who likes challenging arcade style games- it's now one of my favorite such games. Also, it has ballin music.

Great game with really fun and clever, quick 10-second levels. The soundtrack is fantastic as well, and really pulls the whole expereince together. The last planet feels a bit impossible for the average person on the regular difficulty, but the game is well worth picking up.

This game probably has the most precise and awesome control scheme of any game I've played. It's hypnotising, along with it's fantastic soundtrack.

The main game is relatively short and I found most levels could be completed in just a couple of tries. The last few levels were the only challenging ones, and it could have been made to get harder still. I found the final level in the game surprisingly easy and forgiving (the world prior was more of a challenge). The included level editor mostly solves this, but it would have been nice for some more official challenging levels.

I completed the game in under 2 hours on my first playthrough. The game is far less difficult than some reviewers seem to be suggesting, as I'm not particularly good at games. See my 2 hours playtime and Lightspeed achievement for proof.

Let me count the ways. . . tight controls; sexy art style; intuitive, novel gameplay; bitesized-yet-nefarious level design; infectious soundtrack; surrealist narrative interjections; hours and hours of story and custom level content; that unparalleled feeling when you pass through an insane gate sequence for the first time. Yeah, this game is up there with Dustforce and Super Meat Boy for indie platformers in my book. My one complaint is that the difficulty curve's a little whacked. It took some time for me to feel genuinely challenged, and when I hit Mercury, it basically blindsided me. Aside from that, Flywrench is a near-perfect experience that is 100% worth your time.

This is what it's like to be a bird

Edit: gets sadistically difficult near the end. I recommend giving it a rest after Earth unless you really want to play the same level hundreds of times.
