For German players, this map can be a real tedious adventure. It recreates Joachim Peiper's daring rescue of the cut-off 320th Infantry Division in February 1943.

The Wikipedia quotes thus: "He developed the tactic of attacking enemy-held villages by night from all sides while advancing in his armored half-tracks at full speed, firing at every building. This tactic often set the building's straw roofs on fire and contributed to panic among enemy troops. Peiper's unit gained the nickname the "Blowtorch Battalion" as a result."

So for the German player, this means you must: (A) Cross a frozen river area, possibly at night, knocking out numerous entrenched Soviet troops to capture Krasnaya Polyana, then (B) Continue driving south, running the gauntlet of Soviet defenses and counter-attacks using only half-tracks on ONE main highway surrounded by defensible forest, then (C) guard/escort the supply trucks to link up with the exhausted 320th who will now become an effective fighting force again assuming you made it this far with adequate supplies and didn't allow your striking force to eat up the majority of it along the way.

Oh, and did I mention that Soviet heavy armor is pushing Westwards at your point of origin the entire time, trying to cut off the whole affair? Good times.

J. Peiper historically pulled it off and won the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold for himself. Give it a shot and see how you fare.
