I don't know what problems people have with the game - for me works great. No problem with activation, no crashing, no FPS drop, Uplay works fine, lovely gameplay, multplayer. I have no problems playing with my worse computer either (2GHZ dual core, HD5450, Win XP).

Really good continuation of Driver game series. And with shift mode game is just awesome!

I love this game. I love the driving, the story, the acting and the feel of the city. It does have virually no graphic options, and the online servers are empty which is a shame, but I highly recommend this game.

Right, well, I do not know how to rate this game. Certainly not with Steams black and white system that I will continue to ♥♥♥♥ and moan about to no end.

I suppose I'll just reel off some pro's then. It has the usual Driver pros like licensed cars, car chases that hark back to those classic car movies I've never seen and it transitions between two distinct decades!... wait, that was the only really good Driver. I liked some of the missions and the way they present the game generally enough. The shift thing is a cool gimmick and such. The brilliant cutscenes from previous games kind of make a return. Except they don't really look any better and they're layered in with in game footage. Jumping between the two is really quite jarring. Also the voices don't seem to mesh well with the animation.

When driving around all Quantum Leap style Tanner will talk to people in the cars and respond to what they say. Normally it's quite standard for passengers to just shout how terrible you are and the comments go ignored by the player. It's quite a nice touch and can be genuinely funny at times. Oh and there are collectibles, normally I hate them as they detract from the game but these ones are quite easy to find and unlock some pretty awesome challenges based on classic movies. Also if you do get it try driving up to 88mph in a DeLorean and see what happens.

By far the most enjoyable game mode is where you shift into other cars to take out your rivals in a race. It's so satisfying to get overtaken, jump into a semi and U-turn that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ right into your opponent and then smugly drive by windmilling your ♥♥♥♥ out the window to show that tosspot AI who's the mo'♥♥♥♥ing king of the road. Not that it always works out that way. A lot of the time you'll jump back into your car only to find your traffic jam has screwed your pooch too or worse yet, the AI that takes over from you has just mistaken the days events for a Sunday drive and has let the other racers, two funerals, a biker gang and a band of girl scouts on tricycles overtake you because he's just too ♥♥♥♥ing polite. Or Asian if you're racist. It'd be wrong of me not to include them.

I'ma go ahead and reel off the cons now. In fact lemme tell you about the mission that killed this game for me. An off-road race that I could've smashed through in the Dodge Viper but they saw fit to give me the supposed best off-road car in the game. The one that handles like ♥♥♥♥, has as much grip as a wet ♥♥♥♥♥ and accelerates like my mum going up a steep incline. After the first 6 times I failed I tried to quit but the unresponsive menus thwarted my efforts.

Unresponsive menus are the absolute worst thing to have in a game that might frustrate you. When you're already ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to high hell the last thing you want is to fail exiting the game three times because the game can't keep up with your rage. That's how controllers get broken and how I ended up forking out for a new tv.

On top of that there is no way of looking at what songs are in the game nor does it have a menu to select which songs can play like any good open world game with a licensed soundtrack should have. The exception being GTA, that does radio stations more than efficiently and allows for your own muzak. It got to the point where I didn't know what seems to be the only song I was already familiar with before hand was even in the game until literally just after I finished it.

So basically it's okay if you're good at driving games and a fan of the series. I don't think this'll be the game to turn any newcomers onto the franchise. Especially when the other games have aged like they have.

Well after downloading 7GBs of game. It doesnt work.. gets to a loading screen thenthe game shuts down. Even tried deleting and re-downlading, same problem, money well spent. and the add insult to injury. I have to open the ♥♥♥♥ing game about 20- times and let it shut itself down, to get my play time to at least five minuets to right this review.

Pretty solid driving game, aside from it's pretty much garbage premise and storyline. As a fan of the previous Driver games, this one is a good addition. A lot of vehicles to choose from and destroy. The damage physics are really good considering that the game is made by the same people who made the Destruction Derby series. The driving physics are more on the Arcade side, 85% arcade 15% sim.

This game has some kind of memory leak or something, You start the game with 60fps and it runs fine for 10 minutes then it drops to 50 then 40 then 30 then 20 then 10 and then you have to boot the game to go back to 60fps, This did this on my old video card amd 280x and sadly on my new card Geforce 980ti, system amd 8 core 8320 4000ghz.

Buy something else unless you want to play in ten minute chunks!

You've got cars, references to classic movies and tv shows with famous cars, a Blues Brothers reference in the game, the ability to switch cars on the move, racing missions, stunt missions and an interesting concept for the main story that was rather well executed. I love it.

I've got this game for more than 3 years and couldn't push myself to playing it, because I fought it was just another GTA clone. OMG I was so wrooong (-:

It's not a GTA clone, you can never control person itself. It's more like NFS in San Francisco and thats awesome! The physics is just right - not too arcade like in the NFS, not too realistic like in Forza. Story is there, but you can (and will) focus on driving. There is official licenses of some interesting cars - from classic mustangs or torino through civil A4, golf or some chevrolets to lamborginy or pagani.

Soundtrack is also great - even though it's repeating after some time. So only drawback remains graphics from 2011, which is so so... So do not hesitate too much and try it while it's still graphically acceptable.

Multi player is good also, I also really like the fact that all the vehicles are real licensed makes. Its a fun driving game no matter which way you slice it :D

In Driver San Francisco, you play a cop who was injured in the line of duty, so the entire game (more or less) takes place in his head while he's in a coma.

His coma is what allows him to do seemingly impossible feats, such as transferring himself to any vehicle he sees and temporarily taking over the driver of that car. It's an interesting gimmick and for the most part it works.

Being able to drive around San Francisco, where all the streets and landmarks are recreated, is really nice. I've only been to SF once in my life (I believe it was sometime in the early-to-mid 90s) so it's not like I know the city well or grew up there. Even so, it's neat to see the TransAmerica Pyramid building in the background or drive down Lombard Street.

Something I really like is that real-world cars are used. I can understand why most developers don't do this, but I prefer seeing a Ford or a Nissan to whatever the developer creates as a thinly-veiled in-game analogue. Surprisingly enough, all of the cars can be seriously damaged (with visual markers as well, such as broken windshields and smashed fenders), which is something you don't often see automakers allowing in games.

There are a ton of mission types, so you don't need to stick with the main story, and plenty of vehicles and upgrades to purchase. All of this will likely keep you busy for some time unless you're attempting a speedrun (which really doesn't make much sense to me, but some people apparently enjoy it).

That said, there are some problems with the game.

I use an Xbox360 wired controller and the controls are pretty damn bad. Steering is loose, but somehow overly sensitive at the same time. You'll find yourself skidding out a lot, often right into oncoming traffic.

Admittedly, different cars have different stats, so some handle better than others, but even so, the steering is woefully inadequate compared to games like Grand Theft Auto 5, Saints Row: The Third/Saints Row 4, or even Watch_Dogs.

My biggest gripe is the limitations placed on the city of San Francisco itself. Although you can slowly unlock new areas of the city by playing through the main storyline, you'll be limited by red barriers for most of the game. For most driving situations, this wouldn't be a big deal for me if it weren't also for the high-speed chases or escapes. It's jarring to run into a red glowing barrier (which, fortunately, doesn't damage your car but resets you in a nearby position).

Also, the "Dare" missions often require you to reach a certain speed for a predetermined amount of time and doing so is extremely frustrating when you're close but suddenly run out of street to drive on. At the very least, they could open up the entire city for missions and then require you to unlock the city later for free roaming purposes.

In case you're wondering, the game does come with music you can listen to while driving, but I didn't really care for it. Otherwise, the audio is fine, but not particularly noteworthy.

While the graphics look good for a game made in 2011, don't let the screenshots on the store page fool you. This game was made to be compatible with DirectX 9 on WinXP, so you won't see many of the visual effects we've grown accustomed to with DirectX 11.

And finally... be aware that UPlay is required to run D:SF. For me, that's slightly annoying, but some people can't get UPlay working (or at least working properly on a consistent basis), so take that into account when deciding to purchase this game.

Do I recommend Driver: San Francisco? If it's on sale and you don't have problems with UPlay, then yes, I would. It's not the best game out there and some of the in-game mechanics are a little wonky (for lack of a better term), but overall it's decently fun and worth the money if purchased when discounted.

I've decided to make a pro/con list for this game.

Pros
-------
+Absolutely freaking everything.

Cons
------
-Absolutely freaking nothing.

This game transitions from the 3D game to pre-rendered cutscenes very nicely. It has a very awesome story, and the thrills of becoming a cop, tagging a getaway, and then shifting to a bus to murder said getaway head-on is amazing,

10/10

"If I drive for you, you get your money. You tell me where we start, where we're going, where we're going afterwards. I give you five minutes when we get there. Anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours. No matter what. Anything a minute on either side of that and you're on your own. I don't sit in while you're running it down. I don't carry a gun. I drive."

Equal parts ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t and brilliance.

Brilliance:

The game takes a great concept and excecutes it incredibly well. It excels at the driving mechanics and feels absolutely wonderful behind the wheel.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t:

Scripts. Everything is simulated stupidity. When you're racing and you want that extra boost, the rest of the cars boost with you. When the cops chase the race, they chase you specifically and not the other racers. The cop chases are scripted so that the cops never really are off your tail until it's convenient for the game to allow you to escape.

This type of design is absolutely disgusting and unnacceptable in the industry.

San Francisco is a mixed bag. I loved every second of driving the cars, but grit my teeth and swore every single time I saw some contrived attempt at making things more "exciting" for me.

Only a few side missions actually feel organic, and none of the main story missions do.

6/10, D and cautiously recommended. The driving alone is worth the purchase.

F.uck yes I recommend DRIVER San Francisco. As a kid all I'd ever want to play on PS1 was DRIVER and DRIVER 2. We got PS2 few years after that and got DRIV3R. Love everyone of them to this day. DSF, here was a little different. But I don't blame Reflections; this is the first canon DRIVER in years. Sure there's the portabe ones, and Parrallel Lines. But those are uncanon. Prior to DSF, you'd play DRIV3R. I hope we see more from DRIVER, though there's not really anymore perps to catch. I'm not certain of this; it's what you'd call a well educated guess... but I believe The Crew was some kind of replacer for a sequel to DRIVER San Francisco. I just think because it's similar in gameplay, same kind of charactor position (Undercover), and both are Ubisoft games. Again, just a theory. Anyways, a lot of DRIVER fans will love this. It brings so much Deja Vu to me. BUY IT!!!

Thsi is a game for lovers of 70s and 80s american muscle cars, you can own and drive most of them. Ability to Shift from car to another in seconds sounds weird at first, but it gives you so much opportunities - blocking the way with big truck, possessing drivers on other side and ram them into your enemies... San Francisco is packed with activities which makes this last long and fun all the way.
