Online Co-Op Update

Hi Everyone,
Apologies for the very overdue announcement.

We ran into some developmental roadblocks with the Online Multiplayer Integration for Phantom Breaker Battle Grounds on PC.

The good news is that we’ve made significant progress and will be starting alpha testing next month.

We’re hoping to have a full, public release available in the not too distant future.

Here’s a screenshot of the lobby screen working as intended.


Here’s a quick overview of the two different online modes:

4P Co-op
Play arcade mode together with up to 3 other people.

Battleground
Free for all action with 2-4 players

We realize this is much longer than our original target date of August and for this we apologize. We’re working on something cool to make up for the delay.

Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds is a 2D beat 'em up from Mages/5pb, the makers of Steins;Gate, Bullet Soul, and other great games. Choose a fighter and battle against the bizarre minions of the evil wizard Phantom. Enjoy classic beat 'em up gameplay with a fighting game twist. Dash through colorful Tokyo locales, strengthen your characters, team up with your friends, fight dragons and killer robots!

  • Story Mode - Enjoy a lighthearted story as you battle Phantom's minions across 8 stages inspired by famous Tokyo districts.

  • Arcade Mode - Challenge yourself to get the biggest combo, the highest score, or the fastest completion time.

  • Customizable, Persistent Characters - 4 starting characters and 6 unlockable ones. Each character has a fully customizable stat and skill tree, and levels persist between all modes. Choose a favorite character and build them how you like! Every character has unique special attacks.

  • Retro Charm - Vibrant sprite graphics and a catchy chiptune-inspired soundtrack for the discerning retro gamer!

Very, very fun Beat ‘em Up game with cute anime graphics and RPG elements – namely your character levels up as you complete (or fail) a stage, and you assign level-up points you get to character’s stats or use them unlock various special moves. You can also re-distribute the points you’ve assigned, so you can experiment without worrying about making mistakes.

I fully recommend Phantom Breaker to all fans of Beat ‘em Ups, or action games in general!

pretty good game, i always liked the arcade games, i remember when i was little playing that simpson game or double dragon.Variety of characters and skills, story is pretty short, difficulty is not that hard even in the nightmare+ mode.But it's still a pretty fun game for when you are bored or wanna play something different and old school style.

Bad port with severe technical issues which will likely never be solved. Game is seemingly abandoned.

On the plus side, it's banner image looks cute when you scroll past it.

How can such a simple game be so badly ported? You can't bind the controls, they only show controls for an xbox controller, there is no online yet and I heard getting a controller to work on this game is almost impossible.

I also hate how the original game isn't on pc, this makes this game's story and characters very confusing.
