What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Volo Airsport lends itself to to Early Access really well. The game doesn't need to be finished for it to be enjoyable, and there is no such thing as spoiling the surprises for later. With each update you'll have something new to try, making the game feel fresh.

Community feedback is helping to refine the game. We come up with ideas, try them, and see if they stick. You tell us where the rough edges are, and whether you feel a feature fits with your idea of the game. We might be the authors of this book, but we do want to make sure our words make sense to you.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“There are some big experimental features that we've yet to complete. As long as there is no clarity on if, when and how those features will end up in Volo, the game will remain in Early Access.

  • A custom terrain engine
  • Online multiplayer
  • User created content

Once we've worked our way through these things the big picture will be clearer, and we can move beyond early access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We have a rough idea on where we want to go with the game, but what the final game will look like, we simply don't know yet!

We will keep going as long as:

  • we feel there's still interesting ground to cover
  • people are actually playing the game

Here's a list of some things we're considering to add:

  • Local and Online Multiplayer (we think Volo Airsport is most fun when played with other people)
  • Parachutes and other ways to glide and fly
  • Walking, jumping from exit points
  • Player-designed Skydiving Styles
  • Customizable Gear Design (Aerodynamics and Looks)
  • Player-Created Events and Challenges
  • Replay Editor & Screenshot Mode
  • Lively & Dynamic Environments
  • Mod Support (Levels, Modes)

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Volo already has a lot to play around with:

  • A single, finely tuned wingsuit to fly with
  • A huge landscape inspired by the Swiss Alps, with lots of lines to fly
  • Time Trials that push your skills to the limit
  • Multiple camera perspectives (including first-person view)
  • Very configurable graphics and input settings
  • Oculus Rift support (currently experimental, and sometimes broken)

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will increase as the game grows. If you want to get it cheap, get it now!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We invite you to discuss the game on our forums http://forum.volo-airsport.com/. We take all feedback seriously, but we won't implement a feature just because you ask for it. We want to make sure all features fit together into one solid gameplay experience.

Also, we look forward to the first bits of user-created content showing up! We're really curious to see the other directions people could take it in with modding support.”

“At one point last night, while chasing contours on the new Alpine map, I actually found myself wiping a tear from my eye.”

About This Game

Volo Airsport is for those who fly like birds whenever they close their eyes.

Take to the skies and fly past mountains in a wingsuit. Try to hug the cliffs at over 250 km/h or cruise at high altitudes and admire the scenery.

Your body and gear are fully physically simulated. You fly by controlling your character's muscles directly, which changes your pose, which interacts with the air around you. You can see, hear, and feel every gust of wind as you pass it.

The current version already has a lot to play around with:
  • A single, finely tuned wingsuit to fly with
  • A huge landscape inspired by the Swiss and French Alps, with lots of lines to try
  • Multiple camera perspectives (including first-person view)
  • Highly configurable graphics and input settings
  • Oculus Rift support (currently experimental)
  • Time Trials that push your skills to the limit

Gamepad or Joystick recommended!

An amazing game! It's still in early access, so it's a bit rough on the edges. But otherwise, a fantastic game which I recomend to all! A controller is recomended, however you can still play with keyboard and mouse. Overall a fantastic game!

This game is simply beautiful. I have always wanted to fly. Ever since I could recall, I looked up in the sky and wanted to be a bird - To fly. To truly fly. I wanted to soar between mountains, inside valleys, around cliffs and over forests.

Unfortunately, humans can't do that. But this game...

This game does that.

There is no story.

There is nothing but you, your wingsuit, the mountains and the air.

Simply beautiful in its purest of forms.

I hope they update the model, but... otherwise... simply, utterly beautiful in its simplicity and awesomeness.

If there is one game on all of steam... just one... this is it. This is the one you need to try.

it is pretty impressive to play it with the oculus dk2. hopefully there will be enough people who like this kind of game, to make sure you keep working at it and improving it.

i would love to see the game in a final version. best wishes for your success.

maybe a little bit expensive for the beginning ;) but if you really add the planned improvements, it will get worth every cent twice (probably a total grammar fail :D sorry for my bad english :)

100% recommending this as an early access game

We need a proximity flying game, glad to finally see this hit Steam.
Simple, beautiful, challenging.

If you are a fan of skydiving or proximity flying this is the game for you, its almost like you can feel and hear the power and force of the air gusts shoving you around. Nothing beats ripping down a cliffside at 135mph and just one little mistake can be fatal. The game's physics and mechanics are amazing, the controls are well done and playing with a controller is key. You actually fly through simulated air pockets, lifts, and gusts while cruising at speeds of 100 to 160 + mph just feet above the ground...well that is the way I like to fly anyways. The beauty of this game is the map is open, drop in from one of the various spawns some simulating base jumps others simulating jumping out of a helicopter. Really well done little game how it stands right now, something new finally.

Its early alpha, meaning not much content small in size around 150mb. Do not let that discourage you from buying this game, Volo Airsport has a lot of potential here. Can't wait to see whats in store for the future.

A few things I hope to see in the future:

Replays
Different outfits, "wingsuits"
Custom spawn points
Create your own custom runs placing rings where you want them
New maps
Ability to parachute at the end
Multiplayer "usually not a fan a MP games, but this one would be fun with other players"
Map Editor

Most fun I have had playing games in years simple yet so addictive, can't wait for more content or a map editor would be nice. Recommend to every one, my 6 an 9 year old love playing it with me who can ragdoll the best.

In this game you play as a man that is stuck in an endless loop of flight and death. Everytime he dies, he must fly again, only to blast into the ground at 180 kmph. He does some tricks on the way down, barrel rolls, backflips, enough to get the adrenaline flowing. I can only hope that the rush is enough to dull the pain.
All jokes aside however, this is definately the best proximity wingsuit flying game to date. Well optimized, handles great with a controller. I am truly exited to see how this game turns out.

Awesome game, bought it before it was on Steam and was still pretty good then, I love cannonballing from the highest point. Adding a parachute would be so good so you could land perfect, but I know it's in early access so hopefully it gets added in.

I don't write many reviews, but this game is special, so I ought to start...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overview: Volo Airsport is an amazing game that is currently under early development by the same people who brought you the Aurora Wager (a steampunk-style balloon race to get to the north pole). Volo is all about the freedom of flight in a wingsuit. It is different from other games because it has no real competition, leaderboards, or main goals (as of yet). There are no winners or losers, only people who learn to soar, and those who master the art of faceplanting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pros:
-Great developer
-Cheap price ($13 as of now)
-Tiny file size (almost 500mb, takes 3 minutes to download)
-Amazing graphics
-Oculus Rift and gamepad support
-Stunning physics and aerodynamics
-Wind and sound very clean and smooth
-Friendly developers (have had a chat with Ramjet Anvil and Frank V. more than once about Volo)
-Future plans to include parachutes and such
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cons:
-Like all indie games, it is still under development and has multiple bugs
-Character model rather simple, just a blue human figure (red if you crash hard)
-No real goal or point (but that may be the idea of the game, just a stress reliever)
-Extremely simple, but controls are difficult (using keyboard)
-No instructions or tutorial, you are (literally) thrown off a cliff and told to fly
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall, if you are reading this, then you must be considering getting Volo. I have one word of advice:

Buy it.

Can't believe that some people recommend buying this product and no other game. (I'm calling it a product because its a long way from a game). This is severely unfinished, it resembles the quality that comes from a game developer class playing around with flavour of the moment game engine. There is not much to do right now, except to fall to your inevitable "death" - which isnt in the game yet either. It is a playground being the point, well a playground should be fun.

Comparing this simulator to other unique niched simulators like ETS2, this games features looks pale in comparison (even Goat Simulator packs more features) and it need some development time, maby it will be good in 2015-2016. It may be a cool experience with Oculus, then again - it may not be.

For now i cannot recommend this product. Wait and see.
