The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is a co-op Action RPG that immerses you and your friends in a brutal new chapter in the War of the Ring. Snowblind Studios is in the unique position of drawing inspiration from both the literary and film rights to world of Middle-earth, allowing players to bloody their axes on a wide range of deadly enemies and traverse both established and never-before-seen locations. The result is a journey that is both epic and intimate, familiar yet unexpected.

Key Features:

  • Action Meets RPG - Intense, visceral, and satisfying combat. Rich, layered, and impactful character progression. In War in the North, you get both. Find and equip the best loot, upgrade your hero using a wide range of skills and items, and feel the intense satisfaction of rushing into real-time battles with friends by your side. Fight through the brutal realities of the war on all fronts that were brought to life in the lore. Immerse yourself and make your own mark on Middle-earth.
  • Co-op at its Core - Build your own fellowship of three heroes to confront the growing army in the North. The survival of your group and all of Middle-earth depends upon your uniquely skilled heroes working together. You must fight together or you will die alone, and these high stakes make the experience of playing together both socially engaging and incredibly satisfying. The first time you rescue a friend who has been grabbed by a troll and is desperately yelling for help, you will understand what we mean.
  • An Untold Story - While much attention and focus has been placed on the journey of the One Ring, the assault on Middle-earth hits all corners of the map. War in the North turns our attention towards an integral part of the storyline that is grounded in details within the books and various appendices. This is not someone else’s fight. This is your own effort to forage a way through the dark, dangerous, and unknown landscape, defending all that is yours. This is your war.

Only game that I actually spent 1/4 of the play time trying to fix crashes and bugs, AND did not give up. Game too good to let a few crashes and disconnects ruin it! :)

A nice RPG FPS and very very respectful about the lore of Tolkien.

Quite poor attempt to mix Diablo with Return of The King-style gameplay.
In Coop, it has some value, mainly "So bad it's actually good" one. But when you play it alone, you instantly see how much of a cop out this game really is - with this stiff animation, horrible voice acting and a story which leads completely nowhere.

Have a friend, buy some beers and play together, having a major laugh every time an NPC opens his/hers poorly animated mouth. Otherwise - don't even bother.

I enjoyed playing this game in co-op, it's a good little game. It's not a massive time sink.

Well...apart from the fact that dismembering living creatures is always fun, this game is extremely boring and the plot is as appealing as my grandmas saggy ♥♥♥♥. I started skipping whole dialogues because they were to painful to listen to. Seriously, this guys could make life in Syria seem dull.

It's was very fun but when I went to replay it with a newer video card than I had from ~2011 the game ran horribly.
Recent video drivers and/or GPUs (AMD/ATi) have made this game absurdly laggy as well as the final area of the game 100% unplayable.

If you don't have a newer card, then you should be fine.
Recommend at least 2 player, though.
Only real complaint was that you need to NG+ and NG++ to get to higher difficulties and nothing changes other than relative level values of enemies and equipment, etc.

Got this on another bundle source for 1.99 bucks.

for that price is decent 5/7, for regular price 7 bucks is a rip-off.

but I enjoy this, rather than playing dota 2 on SEA servers (laggard and pinoys)

The game itself is a lot of fun if you enjoy standard hack and slash games. However, it isn't without issues. Lots of issues. After struggling through crash after crash and disconnect after disconnect throughout the game, the last bit at Carn Dum is nigh unplayable, even after lowering all settings to minimum and switching to windowed mode. As I stated, the game itself is fun, but it's just so hard to recommend a game with such poor optimization.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North surprised me. I bought it expecting that it wouldn't be very good, as movie adaptations often suffer from a multitude of issues. This one, though it does have some issues, manages to avoid the worst of them.

It does so by not making the main story or characters have anything to do with the content of the movies, instead focusing on some other folks doing a different quest during the same time span. You get to cross paths with the heroes of the main story, but your story does not really impact the main events of the movies. Some have criticized the game for this, but if you look at it as just another adventure in the lands of MIddle Earth, it's fine.

War in the North takes you through a series of events unfolding, unsurprisingly, in the north part of Tolkien's maps. The villain is a bit contrived, but the rest of the journey is filled with the same kind of delicious aesthetic that the movies used to bring Middle Earth to life. I don't remember everything in the appendices of the novels, so I don't know how much of this stuff they just made up for the game, but it's all believably Tolkienesque enough that you won't think about it much unless you're a Tolkien scholar. In short, they nailed the flavour perfectly.

The gameplay is solid third-person action-RPG fare. Controls and movements are fluid, there are skill trees, and item upgrades galore. Each of the three characters plays differently enough, while still allowing the player to customize the skills and abilities toward their preferences. All characters are capable at both melee and ranged combat, all have damage-boosting abilities, and all have support abilities, so you get to decide what you want to be good at.

There are a couple issues I found with the game, namely the crafting system feels tacked-on and falls short of its potential. Inventory space is limited as well, so you run out of room for all the crafting materials. The two issues are certainly related. Part of that stems from the fact that you occasionally get gems that you can socket in your items, but using them means that you must either destroy them or the item you put them in, which disincentivizes their use. Further, they're rare to find, and have randomly generated stats, like all the rest of the gear. Which is another sore spot.

Gear. The game tries to do the fun loot hunt minigame, but falls short. The items generate very random stats. It incentivizes collecting "set" items that unlock powerful additional bonuses, but there are so many of them and not enough drops happening to make that worthwhile. I found that I was better off just using the best individual pieces of gear, regardless of set.

Sidequests are all pretty bland, fetch-quest type stuff, and kind of feel like filler, or an excuse to involve a given character in the story. Not a high-point, but could be worse.

Each area has enough secrets in it to keep you going back for more if exploration is your thing, and you will have to go through with each of the 3 characters (or play multiplayer coop) in order to find them all. That's not a bad thing necessarily, as I found the world was a joy to explore for the mostpart, and each of the characters was fun to use and level up.

It's priced appropriately, is on for 75% off pretty regularly, and actually a good deal at that price.

This'd be a really good game to play with friends if not for the intolerable rate of crashings and disconnections. I've also encountered various glitches during the playthrough. Its unstability quickly and easily overshadowed all the fun.

Beware if you plan to play it on win 10.

多人模式频繁掉线/失连,游戏中途多次卡死/闪退,鼠标指针丢失,读档进度改变,黑屏。
排除以上多人模式还算不错。

Longish , with a variety of locations and a system of cooperative fun combat that will make us enjoy as never slicing necks massacring orc and goblins with arrows and magic spells . War in the North is a very good action role-playing game , but its simplicity in the combat system is paid eventually face a somewhat repetitive development that leads us away from the larger ones. Still, any Tolkien fan should miss.

I do not usually play this kind of game but I have found a lot of pleasure doing so.
It is really entertaining slaughtering some orks, trolls and them lots. Collecting loot to find new gear is
addicting and I like the variate of the enemies.
