While very old at this point, this game is supported by a ♥♥♥♥ load of mods for any style of game you want. On top of that, the conquest mode can keep a player going a long time. If you like Star Wars, RTS games, and/or a strong modding community then this is worth taking a look at.

Looks great. Lots of cool mods on the internet. The campaigns are fun, and so is the Consortium campaign. You can use strategy, or spam stuff which is easier. The Consortium is overpowered though. Playing galactic conquest as Rebels or Empire is terrible. Both sides will not give you any breathing room. Consortium can go to your planet and take over your level 5 space station just by being there. Their military power is around 95%, while yours is around 30% - 60% if you try on easy mode. I have no choice but to do auto-resolve with a very large force when attacking Consortium on land because they spam tanks and long range torpedoes which can wipe out anything you throw at them.
You do NOT get to use the Executor super star destroyer. You attack it. BUT, in the campaign you take control of an unfinished and non movable super star destroyer with a superlaser. They tried to trick you with that picture.
New heroes: Luke, Yoda, Dark side witch, the Arc Hammer star destroyer, Garm Bel Iblis and his huge hover tank, Admiral Thrawn, IG-88, Bossk, Tyber Zann and his alien friend.
Dark troopers phase 1 - 3, new tie fighters, over powered Consortium capitol ships with big guns and stealth, mon cal frigate with cluster bombs, ewoks with bombs strapped to them..., rancors, droidekas. Rebels have not changed much because they already have more units than Empire.

Star Wars Empire At War does an incredible job of having simultaneously great space battles and compelling ground battles in a tactical strategy setting.

I really like this game. The campaigns are fun and serve as a good introduction to the rest of the game. After you beat the campaigns, you should be able to play the Galactic war scenerios with ease. Speaking of these scenerios, they are varied and place the different factions in different situations. One, for example, puts the Empire on the brink of collapse while another has them about to crush the remnents of the rebel alliance. This increases replayability as I want to play the different scenerios and see how I do. The expansion increases this by adding in a third faction and a corruption system. The actual gameplay is a mixed bag. The space battles are fun. Most space battles will revolve around the attackers trying to destory a space station while the defenders try to repel them. The station can only be defeated by attacking weak points that house key features in the station (such as a hanger or shield generator). Larger ships also can only be attacked in this manner. The land battles on the otherhand... they are pretty bad. I'm not even sure how to explain why they are bad. You really have to play them to understand what is wrong with them. I find myself just building an overwhelming force and auto-resolving land battles instead of a more balanced force and trying to win through strategy. Overall, it is a good game and a worthy edition to the library of any Star Wars fan. If the premise intrigues you, I recommend buying it.

Great RTS (Real Time Strategy) that is the description of this game. IT is amazing and when people say it sucks, it doesn't, you can take planets and build a great army to challenge the terrible empire.

Very good game, overall wonderful, it gives endless fun of various possibilities and replications of battles from the movies from both sides, it is days and days of fun for just one of the runthroughs. Three things I would have liked that would have made it perfect; first, better support for ultrawides and/or multimonitor (I have an ultrawide and a 1080p monitor), the active image (everything but menues sans planets) get progressively more and more stretched out further you get from 16:9, I would have loved to see the battlefield using both my UW and standard seeing a platoon march from one side of one monitor, across it, then across my ultrawide to the edge of it, but it was basically unusable with the amount of stretching. Second thing is that I would have loved to see an expansion following the extended universe, I wanted so much to fight the battle of Byss and had a level destroying World Devistators plus battling the Kiss Empire (I know there was probably a mod for one of these, but still). The third and easiest change I would have loved would be for the standard runthrough for the Rebels would be following the Deathstar blowing up, retaking the galaxy and the Empire having further and further more sophisticated units and weapons while the user lags behind the advances, or not, just further pushing Empire into a ball that makes it more and more difficult to fight. Anyway, I know this is an older game and my three points are nit picking, it is an incredibly good game hands down, such a good game, do buy it

Definitely recommend this game to every Star Wars fan out there. The main reason I started playing this game is because I wanted to control my own imperial Starfleet. There are three factions to choose from but even better with mods. I prefer space battles to ground battles as they are easier to command and also less time consuming. Overall it is a great strategical game for those wanting a good time and besides, its Star Wars :).

STAR WARS™ Empire at War - Gold Pack is one of the best Star Wars games out there in my opinion. Including the expansion, there are three factions. These factions are called the Empire, the Rebels (or Rebellion), and lastly the Zann Consortium. Each of these three factions has a nice variety of ships and land units to choose from for upcoming battles. Each faction also has their own type of research which gives the game more variety. The Rebellion has to send one of their hero units to an enemy faction to steal technology. Usually this tech that the Rebellion steals is a unit or building. The Empire must have a research base on the planet that they want to research tech levels which gives them a new tier of buildings and units. The Zann consortium cannot steal tech, but they can send hero units to planets with a black market to get unit upgrades. Now on to the maps: By default there aren't many maps to choose from unless you mod it. Each map has a set number of planets that your faction can control. You can build up to 8 buildings on any planet you control, although you won't be getting 8 slots on most planets. You may also build a space station above that planet, which can be upgraded up to 5, but depends on the planet. Land combat is quite dull in many peoples' opinions but space combat is quite good. There are also many mods to choose from that give the game much more replayability which I would suggest getting after a couple playthroughs. This game does feature a campaign for all three factions, which I think you should play through as well because they aren't bad. Lastly, I believe I'm right in saying the Zann Consortium is overpowered if you play them. You can fix this by modding or not playing them. (I've beaten large rebel and empire fleets with just a space station as Zann Consortium.) I'd give this game a 9/10 because it's pretty amazing. ( I have many more hours than it says I do, I've gotten it on disk multiple times.)

Star Wars fans will buy this anyway, because there is no other good strategy game from the universe. You might consider it even if you are not fan, the planetary turn-based-like strategic map is simple but unique in its mechanics. Graphics are not superb in this day and age and battles on planets are rather dull most of the time. But where the game excells are battles above planets, with spaceship. It has always been intriguing to see the fight between Calamari warships and Star destroyers and now you can experience it too, which I like a great deal.

This is by far my favorite Star Wars game. The amount of play time yoy can get out of this game is well worth the purchase price, plus the added fact that it is fun! The Forces of Corruption expansion is a little unballanced but still makes for good gameplay.

Great game.... while the graphics are a little outdated this game plays beautifully on PC. The strategy is top notch and the game just draws you in whether you are playing as any of the three factions in Forces of Corruption. Every game is a new mess of challenges from the Zann Consortium rushes to the Empires overwhelming force. Overall a very good Strategy title for the Star Wars Universe.

Oh Yeah 2 things.
1. ♥♥♥♥ THE ZANN CONSORTIUM AND ITS CORRUPTION
2. B-WINGS OP

A friend of mine game me a disk copy of this game and I played it for YEARS before I lost the disk. Picked this up on sale for $5.

Pros:
- A LOT of mods
- Fun space combat system
- Can either use brute force or use strategy to win
- Can Death Star planets that are too hard to take on the ground.
- Pirates
- Galactic Conquest = A LOT of replayability

Cons:
- If you play as either the Empire or the Pirates, the Rebels will spam this little piece of crap ship (I think it was the MC-40, I use mods now that make that a really bad ship so the AI doesn't use it anymore) that will kill your fighters and bombers. I'm not lying when I say I fought (and barely won) a battle where they brought 100 over the little things. THEY SUCK!
- Turbo lasers and a shield generator on a planet can make it difficult to advance and the AI had a tendency to spam anti-aircraft units
- Little variation... meaning, Empire, Rebels and Pirates (in F.o.C) are the only ones you can play as (without mods). It'd be interesting if they had put in the Hutts as a default playable faction... but again, Mods

The game is fun it has a total of 3 factions (if you play on the expansion) however i much prefer playing the regular version and whenever i do play i always play as the imperials even though the rebels have the snow speeders the only downside is (for me) is whenever i try playing the rebel campaign the game crashes but i dont really like the rebels so its fine with me
