Let's get this out of the way first: this game is an extravagantly unfinished piece of trash.

It plays and functions like a very early and rough prototype, levels are spectacularly inconsistent in both length and difficulty, sounds and music many times fail to even load [!], it is locked at 30 fps [!!] (except for a glitch during combos that momentarily unlocks the framerate [!!!]), and textures and segments of levels fail to load at random times [!!!?!] (including during cutscenes when parts of the enviroment simply pop-in after the camera has already panned to it's location). It's undeniable proof of LucasArts's state of total disarray during the generation, and it's ridiculous this game was ever deemed release-worthy.

However, I still recommend it....because I had fun with it and liked it.

The story is fantastic; containing awesome moments, excellent plot twists, great original characters and deepening existing Star Wars characters. It contains a brand new original score that is wonderful and is up to the quality of John Williams' own work, and the graphics and rendition of the Star Wars universe is breathtaking and exciting once you get past the poor coding and glitches. The DLC for the game (included here) includes an alternative version of the Star Wars trilogy that is also really well done and pure fan service for any Star Wars fan.

At the end of the game, I was left wanting for more....which is exactly what I want from any game. Go ahead and play it if you are a Star Wars fan, because you may have a blast.

I enjoyed the game very much. Only criticisum is that it can be hard to play with a keybord and mouse.

A very impressive example of what the new generation of graphics and physics can produce. The force power effects are both awe inspiring and memorable for the moments when the camera zooms in on the victims of a force push or throw. In terms of gameplay, TFU is top notch and there are some really dazzling acrobatic moves. The storyline is fluid and new challenges are presented all the top, each of them more difficult than the previous one. The lightsaber combat is well defined and the use of force powers in every encounter can produce some pretty deveastating results. The extra content is well made and adds a little more excitement and flare for the dramatic.

Other than being an obvious port of a console game and having a few dumb boss fights, overall I think this game is a lot more fun than most reviewers gave it credit for. If you like slicing things up with lightsabers and shooting out force lightning (and let's be honest, who doesn't?), this game is about as good as you'll get until we get a proper sequel to Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. It does a good job of making you really feel like the overpowered badass of a Sith that you are.

This game is fun to play, plain and simple, hack and slash with force powers. My only complaint is the lack of in depth Graphics options to fix the screen tearing. Other than that, it is a great game. It is set between Starwars The Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope during the creation of the rebellion.

Become one with the dark side and become Darth Vader's apprentice. Great game if you are a Star Wars fan where you can wield the powers of the Sith and unleash awesome lightsaber combos. Battles and locations are awesome, however at times you will struggle with the PC controls and it becomes very frustrating during a certain section of the game. Overall it is a good game with some minor flaws in controls.

Got this as part of a bundle, because I really liked the way the series that started with Dark Forces had developed.

Had a hard time getting into it at first, until I realized this time around it was a console port, and what they were trying to do with the control scheme. If you play it, and have access to a USB controller, I'd highly recommend using it. There's one section towards the end that's nigh on impossible to do with keyboard and mouse, unless you check the forums and realize that the port is treating the mouse input as analog instead of digital.

Graphics are nice, gamplay narrative flows well, and you get some decent character developement from the protagonist.

Mouse/keyboard controls are a bit clunky for pumping out those lightsbaer/force combos, but it the end it almost recaptured that Jedi Academy feel for me, with a nice storyline bridging Ep II and Ep IV of the movies.

If you're a fan of the series, I'd recommend buying it on sale, and keep the controller recommendation in mind.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is an action-adventure, hack'n'slash roller coaster of Sith Awesome Sauce. You play as Starkiller, the 'secret apprentice' of Darth Vader. Though you are initially tasked with hunting down Jedi Survivors, your quest quickly changes after you make some friends, enemies, and are put through extreme measures. It is honestly one of the best stories featured in a Star Wars game, and the story accounts for so much of the momentum while playing (I should note that as with all other star wars games, the story is considered non-canon in the universe, which I personally don't mind).

The gameplay is a bit cumbersome at first, but once you've gotten used to it, the lightsaber and force combat is extremely addicting and fun. After sometime, you'll start making heavy use of combos, combining force lightning with lightsaber attacks, or force push with force dash, etc. There's tons of combos to be pulled off, all visually satisfying and very useful when taking down enemies. The AI is overall intelligent, apart from some enemy types with very basic reactions to the player, but that's easily excused by the wide variety of enemy types.

The game spans 10 levels, taking about 45 Minutes (give or take) for each, so the game ends up being really short. Each level is filled with hidden Holocrons, giving timed buffs or unlockables, such as lightsaber crystals or upgrade points. A boss battle usually concludes each level, mostly being unique and very challenging. You'll face down Rancors, Sith Assassins, Imperial Walkers, the list goes on. It always gives you something to look forward to at the end.

It's worth mentioning that this is definitely a console port, as the framerate is locked and there's little to no optimization settings or menus. The game overall looks and runs decent, apart from sound issues on very rare occassion. If you play on a potato, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Overall, The Force Unleashed is a worthy game for any Star Wars fan, and double for a fan of Sith characters. The Ultimate Sith Edition just adds 3 bonus levels as an epilogue to the game's alternate ending, but they're nice additions. Despite being incredibly short, the game offers a lot of replay value with the combat system, collectibles, and harder difficulties.

7/10 - Great Deal if discounted (which happens very rarely for this title apparently, so your money, your problem. gg no refunds)

I really enjoyed the storyline of this game.

Some of the controls felt clunky though (Probably the result of it being a console port)

The fixed camera cause some line of sight issues during boss fights, it caused some enviornmental objects to take up too much of the view, and made it difficult to aim.

Still, a very fun game, especially if you enjoy the Star Wars universe.

I have been waiting to get this game. To my disapointment after being such an old game it still experiences some lag in some areas, freezes and all out crashes on occasions. They are typically unexpected, but they happen. When the game is running its very enjoyable

Extremely good game, it has addicting gameplay with fun upgrade systems and u can also play as fricken jango fett with a black lightsaber crystal. You get a decent long campaign and it comes with 3 dlcs which are really cool and relate to from the star wars movies and is just overall great. 8/10 better than the second one by alot but still reccomend both buying.(only buy the second force unleashed if its on sale like for the steam summer sale or winter sale)

I wish they did the prequel movies based on this game, great story and good characters. The QTE's are a bit annoying and detract from what's going on in the epic battles, but the force powers do make you feel like a Sith/Jedi. Great to see some cannon characters show up within the game and throughout the few words you get to see.

Are you a Star Wars fan ?

Yes -> you MUST buy it
No -> skip it

If you are a SW fan is a really funny game, otherwise is a mediocre action game

Cons:
  • a bit buggy (nothing gamebreaking btw),
  • it's a bad porting so expect long loading time, fps locked
  • probably you'll have a better experience with a joypad (i played with keyboard and mouse btw)
  • IA isn't really clever

Pro:
  • awesome gameplay
  • nice story
  • bad ♥♥♥ wombo-combo
  • 1st Level = Stomp a lot of wookiee playing as Darth Vader

Ever wanted to beat up an old man with psychic powers while you plummet through the atmosphere of a small planet on a collapsed observation deck? Ever wanted to slice the equivalent of a space-tank in half with a glowing lazer sword? Ever wanted to electrecute a jawa... WITH YOUR MIND?
if yes = get this
if no = what the hell is wrong with you?

So here's the thing, is the game bad? No, far from it. Is it the best Star Wars game out there? No, go play Knights of the Old Republic you fool.

The game is based between episodes 3 and 4 of the Star Wars movies. The story, if you pay attention actually is well-explained and well-placed in the 20-ish year gap between the two. It explains how the Rebel Alliance came to be and all that good stuff (if you pay close attention you'll even see where the symbol for the rebels came from), and wraps itself up in the end nicely as well, but this is just story-wise. Are there a few plot holes, probably, but the force is the ultimate way to explain them, right?

Anyway the game isn't bad, it takes about 6-8 hours to beat and it is super fun to blast everything to death with Force Lightning.

Outside of that, if you are a Star Wars fan, you'll probably like the game, if not, I'd try KotOR first then see how you feel. They aren't the same type of game but if you aren't a Star Wars fan and don't find yourself liking Knights of the Old Republic, then don't bother with this game.

One last thing, as a warning, and I will leave this with MINIMUM spoilers. Towards the latter part of the game you end up taking on a Star Destroyer with the force, it took me 3 sequences of manipulating it with the sticks. The third time, it tells you to bring the right stick down and stays red, it is supposed to turn yellowish/green when you are in the correct position (when you get there you'll see what I mean) just keep holding that stick up. It is a bug and I can't believe they didn't fix it, but you'll thank me later when you waste an hour going "WTF WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO"
