Star Wars The Bugs Unleashed: Ultimate ♥♥♥♥ Edition
As many others, I got this game with the recent humble bundle. If you are one of the unlucky ones who got it prior and payed more than 5 bucks you pretty much got ripped off.
At first I was really looking forward to playing this load of crap
game, as I am kind of a Star Wars fan.
But already after the first hour into playing this, I already got extremely
frustrated. Apart from several bugs concerning
- the audio , which sometimes cuts out the music and some of the SFX during a mission and never comes back again ever, even after restarting the game and on several occasions happening
- the cutscenes , as the game randomly crashes to desktiop after some and last but not least
- the ragdoll system , which had me glitch out of bounds on two occasions, when a Purge Trooper grabbed me and slammed me not into, but through the ground below the world, where I was stuck, forcing me to quit and reload the save, because there is no "restart from last checkpoint"-option
this game features some ♥♥♥♥ing infuriating
There are absolutely no invincibility frames. None. Meaning, when you get hit by an enemy attack, which leaves you stunned for a solid second, you will get hit again
by another enemy within this peroid, without you being able to defend yourself at all. If you're unlucky, you will be combo'ed to death several times when you face more than one or two enemies at once.
Many attacks by the bigger enemies you will encounter, like Rancors, are unblockable. They mostly cannot be interrupted and are really nearly impossible to avoid when you go at them with your lightsaber, leaving you often times with cheesing the fights and abusing the poor AI to get them stuck on terrain and Force-Lightning the ♥♥♥♥ out of them over and over again, as your only option to carry on with your sanity intact.
All of the boss battles feel really unpolished and imbalanced. There is little feedback on how strong your opponent really is and especially on the later bossfights, you will be twoshot by an unblockable counterattack. Not to mention the incredibly stupid "bossfight" against the Stardestroyer which you have to pull down from orbit singlehandedly with the force
in a ridiculous minigame in which you have arrange the analog sticks as shown on screen. Not only is this as silly as it sounds, they also give you the wrong directions, so you have to try around for at least 30 minutes to find the right spot to finish this ♥♥♥♥ off.
Needless to say that these design flaws don't add to the enjoyment you will get out of this game, as it just feels clunky, unfinished, unresponsive and poorly playtested (if at all).
Furthermore we have another great example of a crappy PC port. There are basically no graphic options and the game is locked at 30fps, it does feature mouse and keyboard control, but you have to edit the keys in a seperate launcher.
The only reason I finished this, was my interest in the story, although it wasn't particulary well written and the hope, that I will get some sort of satisfaction out of it, without having thrown away 10+ hours of my life.TL;DR:
Crappy port, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s of aggravating bugs, infuriating combat mechanics, okay-ish story with flat characters. 2/10 would not play again.
