Wow. This is like DOOM with laser blasters. Spectacular game, but I can't play it much. The old graphics... They make me... nauseous... My Rating: 8/10

Amazing old-school Star Wars game from 1995 that brings back a lot of nostalgia.
The game combines the amazing Star Wars soundtrack with action packed combat and tricky puzzles.
The PC controls do take some getting used to but once you are accustomed, they feel right.
The game also runs fairly decent for an old DOS-game with short loading times and very few issues.
I highly recommend any Star Wars fan to pick this game up and play it, all be it for the sake of nostalgia.

Took 24 hours to beat for me. It was a bit hard at first as i didn't know how to look up or down (page up and page down.) but got the hang of it after awhile. I had to watch a couple walkthough because sometimes the maps are a maze and its easy to pass up a key. But as a major star war fan, i had to play though this game and i'm glad i did. Storyline was decent.

A great old school shooter. If you played FPS games like Doom 95/2 or Duke Nukem 3D you'll immidiatelly feel at home, otherwise it would take a couple of minutes to get used to.
The first few maps are going to feel slightly linear but as you progress they become more complex to navigate.

A venerable entry in the Star Wars saga, Dark Forces set up the characters of Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors, while also introducing the Imperial Dark Troopers into the lore. Dark Forces went on to spawn a successful sequel, Jedi Knight, which then was followed by two more games featuring Katarn. Although the canon has been overwritten by the Disney acquisition, Katarn's daring capture of the Death Star plans and sabotage of the Dark Trooper program are still among fans' most beloved extended universe story arcs.

Released in the wake of the early/mid 90's DOOM craze, Dark Forces presents gameplay very similar to other shooters of that era: blast through waves of enemies, solve the puzzles, get the keys, open the doors, etc. In truth, there are very few discerning features, those being the familiar universe and music, voice acting, cut scenes, the ability to look up and down (albeit awkwardly), items and inventory management, and some other minor details.

What sets Dark Forces apart is really the sum of these unique features. It's a solid, old-school shooter in the Star Wars universe - that alone will draw fans. There is much greater variety than DOOM and it's many clones when it comes to missions and environments. One mission sees you skidding over ice, helpless until you slide your way into a pair of ice cleats. Another sees you captured by Jabba the Hutt, with your weapons taken away, trapped between a wall and huge monster that you will need to punch to death.

For Star Wars fans: Highly recommended. This is an important original story from the extended universe, and an enjoyable shooter.

For everyone else: Recommended, but far from essential. If you don't know much about Star Wars, it'll feel like a very well-polished DOOM clone.

Empire killed my parents so I stole the Death Star plans, kicked Boba Fett's ♥♥♥, and blew up a Super Star Destroyer. Also murdered a Kryatt Dragon with my bare hands.

And Jan Ors is a total hottie.

Seriously this is a great game, one of my favorites of all time and probably the first shooter I ever played in my life.

This was way harder than I remembered, maybe games have gone too easy as years go by. Last level was a nightmare. So yeah, totally recommended, old school FPS, like Doom meets Star Wars.

The start of the Kyle Katarn series. A great raycasting game.

First and formost, if you cannot code or configure your dosbox controls, you're gonna have a bade time. If you do not know what dos box is, you're going to be unhappy with this game.

That said, this is a very old game with very old design choices. You are going to have to put yourself in the mindset of the mid 90's gamer and computer user to enjoy this game.

That said, its a blast to play. There is a quality aesthetic to this game that was quite consistent in the rest of the Katarn games that made me enjoy it very much. The Lucas-verse felt like a place, somewhere you were in, rather than just another level. Sewer monsters, Gamorran guards, thermal detonators, blaster rifles, everything felt on point.'

That said, the only issues I have with it from a gaming perspective is that there is no save system, so you're going to wind up memorizing much of the levels to get through them healthy and in one piece. The back half missions have boss battles that ....aren't bad, but aren't great as well. The Corescant mission felt like I was fighting the AI more than anything. The fuel depot mission was similarly confusing in that exactly how you were to accomplish the objectives was a pain that look my lateral thinking ability to solve.

But all in all, this was a fun game, I enjoyed blasting imperials.

If Disney were to put a new FPS out, I'd only ask for something between this and Dark Forces 2, but minus a certain type of weapon near the end.

But seriously, learn to configure your dosbox setting so you can have a proper resolution and control setup.

I know it's not really fair to criticize a game so many years later, and you have to appreciate the major leaps forward that Dark Forces made. But when every mission inevitably gets bogged down in a long and boring hunt for key X or door Y that you somehow missed along the way, even the nostalgia wears thin. The solution is rarely a rewarding find, rather its just a well hidden door that is an awkward U-turn from another door.

O jogo conta com diversas aparições importantes, dentre elas: Jabba, the Hutt; Boba Fett e Darth Vader.

RECOMENDO! TODA A SÉRIE CLÁSSICA STAR WARS!!!
