About This Software

The SteamVR Performance Test measures your system's rendering power using a 2-minute sequence from Valves Aperture Robot Repair VR demo. After collecting the data it determines whether your system is capable of running VR content at 90fps and whether VR content can tune the visual fidelity up to the recommended level. For machines that are not VR Ready the tool can help determine whether capabilities are bound by Graphics Card, CPU, or both.

So, this program renders a real VR scene in a window on your desktop. (You do NOT need VR to run the test)

With the following specs I was able to get an 11, the highest score (at least from what I saw, everything was pegged as far as it will go at 11).

i7 5820k
GTX 1080
16GB DDR4 2800Mhz
Intel 750 NVMe PCIe SSD

Having said that I don't think you'll need this beefy of a PC. An i7 6700k and a GTX 1070 should give you almost the same score easily.

Now I have two more tests to run and I will update this with when finished.

i5 6500
GTX 1060
8GB DDR4 2133MHz

and

FX-8320
RX 480
8GB DDR3 1600Mhz

These are test rigs that I have built to simulate what most people likely have in their rigs at home.

Scored 11

Sux that the VR headset companys are doing more of like what you see between Sony Playstation and Microsoft's Xbox rather than what they SHOULD be doing, like making the best headset with exclusive features like better tracking, or a differant way to do VR... and NOT making exclusive games that are creating a divide between VR users. IF I ever buy VR I want to be able to play and do it all, I dont want TWO VR headsets or Three just so I can play exclusive Games that only One of the VR headsets can play.

I Love SteamVR, nice way to double check your Rig before you buy VR.

Specifications of my system:

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333MHz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD7970

I was running this with a core clock of 925MHz and a memory clock of 1375MHz and it said that my PC was "Not Ready" with the following:

Average Quality: 0.8 (Low)
Frames Tested: 8457
Frames Below 90 fps: 754 (8.9%)
Frames CPU Bound: 0 (0%)

However, I then overclocked it to 1050MHz and 1500MHz respectively and it tells me that my PC was "Capable" with the following:

Average Quality: 3.7 (Medium)
Frames Tested: 9435
Frames Below 90 fps: 0 (0%)
Frames CPU Bound: 1 (0%)

I hoped this has helped anyone out using this as a gauge or something.

Am I going/planning to get a VR headset? No, not right now.

Take the result with a bit of warning...

It does not take into account CPU usage by tracking/movement.
It also does not rate your USB performance.

i7 6800k + 1070 = 10.8
