What can I say about Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic that hasn't already been said. It is a wonderfully made RPG set within the rich, well-loved universe of Star Wars. This game has it all for both Star Wars fans and RPG fans.

Get it, play it, love it.
Play the sequel. love it.
Play SWTOR and get angry.

Ok let me just start off by saying best thing since the movies. I didn't think it would be any good or that much fun but let me tell you it is most certainly worth buying. It has a good story good charecters the combat is just ok and also has a great plot twist. Also the light and dark choices and options were so distinct. Bottom line best thing bioware made next to mass effect so get it now! However if you didn't like the star wars movies you might not like this.....

Whether you are into the Star Wars universe or not, KotOR is one of the best sci-fi RPGs ever made.

[+]
There is so much to love about KotOR that it is hard to decide what to begin with. Everything feels fleshy and alive. NPCs interactions are outstanding and those between the members of your party give this game even more "thickness". The levels are very well designed and diverse: deserts, cities, ruins, spaceships, underwater stations, ... not two places are the same, barring enemy bases. And with a tool like Flawless Widescreen to make the game 1080p, they take a new dimension. The plot is great, with a few twists and important choices. Combat, despite being turn-based with behind-the-scenes dice rolls, is excellent too. And then there is the pazaak minigame and swoop races if you need cash or a break from the main plot! Even a decade after its release, Knights of the Old Republic does not feel outdated at all and truly deserves its place as a classic.

[-]
No game is perfect and KotOR is no exception: The camera movements are a little weird at times, the difficulty is uneven, there is a lot of unnecessary walking, and the poor inventory system makes it hard to find items as the list gets longer. I had a few crashes, especially with the movies that I had to remove entirely to prevent CTDs.

Do not buy this game on steam. Gog.com has a version that is made completely playable on windows 7.

It's near impossible to play this game on steam. Some people may not have much trouble starting it but a majority are not able to get this game to run without spending hours online using different fixes. The first time two years ago after an hour of trying fixes the game finally ran after the character selection screen. I was about two minutes into the game but could not figure out how to move forward. Turns out it was bugged. Tried a few more fixes and managed to get the the next section of the starting mission and guess what happened? I was stuck and couldn't figure out where to go and it turns out the game was bugged again. After another two hours I could not get the game at any more playable of a state. One year later I give it another shot and this time I can't even get the game to load after creating a character. Close to four hours of work and I manged to play five minutes of the game.

Gog just released their version of KotOR and it works perfectly from the moment I downloaded it. The game is $9.99 and may never go on sale but it's woth every cent. Gog strives to make games playable. Steam is just a portal for selling games and there are many on here that are in as bad a shape as Kotor becaause the original publisher never updates them for new systems.

By far one of the best RPG games i have played. At first the battle style was very different from what i am used to, but as I progressed farther into the game and i understood it more and the story became more developed I started to really like the battle system. It can either be a faster paced or step by step battle. Also, this game has one of the best storylines i have ever played and the interactive part and choosing light or dark side really made this game what it is. If you are considering buying this game, don't hesitate, just do it.

One of the best games I've ever played. Seriously.
Skip to the bottom if you want a TL;DR.
According to Steam I've only played 23 hours' worth – that's not true. I've always had weird problems with the whole connection with Steam – one day it'll say I've played 31 hours, the next it'll say I've only played 7. I am pretty sure I've logged over 40 hours of gameplay on this.
Not much, when you compare it to other people's times. But I'm not a hardcore gamer. I game when I have some spare time.
This game is seriously good.
Sure, the combat is a bit odd and clunky, especially if you're used to modern games or if you don't role-play, but give it a bit and it'll feel natural. I actually prefer it.
The story is gripping, the characters well-developed.
It really does it's job in inserting you into the Star Wars universe, and story wise I have no complaints.
One complaint I do have is the length of time you spend running around. It's at least seventy percent of the game. And for some reason it just feels like a real drag.
TL;DR?
Excellent game, story is brilliant, role-play-style combat system, too much running around.

This game was the 1st RPG game i have ever played i have spent countless hours on this game when it frist game out years ago on xbox it was ♥♥♥♥ing amazing then and it is ♥♥♥♥ing amazing now! This is truely my favorite game of all time!
The story is great with a awesome plot twist, Characters are really well voice acted. There are engaging chat options to choose from. The decisions you make have consequences good or bad. The whole feel of the game is very immersive you really feel like what you decide to play as. e.g a Dark Jedi. The comabt system took me awhile to get use to but once you do you love it there are countless upgrades you can decide to pick for your character and party members i could go on and on about how great this game is but you really just have to experience it for yourself 10/10.

I've wanted to play this game for a long time, since I first played Knights of the Old Republic 2. It wasn't what I expected at all, revisiting areas was pretty amazing, I didn't expect it at all, and when I say revisiting I mean going through areas I had gone through in KTOR:TSL. It was a great game, I would recomended it even if I did go backwords in time.

A slow and unengaging introduction thankfully makes way for a truly magnificent role playing experience, merging the best aspects of party based rpg, star wars, and cinematic quality main story. A must play for a fan of any.

also as a tip avoid melee, guns miss way less often then light sabers

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is an Adventure RPG based on the D20 System. Set 4,000 years before the Galactic Empire, you are a Republic Soldier stuck in a war against a newly formed Sith Empire lead by former Jedi heroes, whose steps you retrace in an attempt to discover the source of their military power.

Pros: Nice story that explores the ages before the modern Star Wars setting, back when the Republic was half its size and most of the Galaxy was yet to be mapped. You are joined by a cast of up to 8 additional characters, up to 2 can join you at a time. You can travel to 5 different planets (with different environments, creatures to fight, and equipment to buy for you and your party). Different encounters or quests might unlock depending on which side character is in your party at a given time. Some items are upgradable standard enhencement parts, others are fully customizable such as lightsabers. Multiple side quests allow you to dwelve on which side of the force you want to be in. Oh, and the story has a great twist!

Cons: The graphics didn’t age too well, many objects and characters look very polygony. If you’re not familiar with tabletop RPGs and the D20 system, you can easily get confused of how the mechanics work when selecting weapons, upgrades and other equipment. Character creation is limited, at least by today’s standard, where you pick from a dozen pre-gen faces among 3 different classes to begin, then among 3 jedi classes. Each planet has a very linear map, with a few outbranching paths, again contrasting with today’s standards.

Verdict: If you’re not a fan of Star Wars, you probably won’t see the appeal of this game. Otherwise, it’s one of the best installments of the games. The game isn’t too lore-heavy, allows both light and hardcore fans to enjoy the settings and game. I recommand giving it a try, it’s worth the price!

Truely an awesome game indeed, the only real flaws I've found are not being able to jump, and wearing certain armor restricts some Force Powers. It's got a great story, excellent voice acting, likeable characters, a pretty good combat system, an amazing plot twist, and much more. I highly recommend Knights of the Old Republic, it's bloody amazing. 8/10

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is an incredible game, without doubt. This port, however, is an absolute mockery to the game. Can barely even get passed character creation without it crashing 20 times. Good luck trying to get through the whole game without having to save every 20 seconds in fear of the game's incessant crashing.
