I've played the game before on XBOX but it is ridiculously buggy on modern computers. Frequent unresponsiveness to the point where it is unplayable from the first mission. In desperate need of an update. Shame!

Only Baldur's Gate II manages to trump this as Bioware's best game. One of the finest RPGs ever.

+ Fantastic story and voice acting, set in an interesting time of the Old Republic with well written characters.
+ Solid round-based combat, clearly inspired by their D&D work with the Baldur's Gate series.
+ Graphics hold up impressively well all these years later.

- Needs a mod to run in modern resolutions, but it's not too troublesome to get working.

Where to start...

It was a breezy afternoon in Texas. The year was 2011.

I was rummaging through a pile of my step-brother's old Xbox games, when I came upon IT.

A very good friend of mine, Lance, decided to accompany me throughout the journey, what was, Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic.

I got this game a few months ago and it still stands up as a great game today. It's not only a good Star Wars game but it's a great role playing game as well. I'd recommend this game for any fan of Star Wars or RPG's.

Great game even though there are a lot of cons that pisses you off. There are multiple endings(inlcudes a secret one).

Pros:
-Great story
-Graphic isn't as outdate compare to 90's so its bearable
-Nice gameplay
-Companion secondary quests doesn't effect endings.
-Lots of choice to choose between dark vs light.
-Can save when ever you want as in no crappy checkpoints.

Cons:
-Companion Secondary quest is a pain to activate, if you can't activate it or miss them, just keep moving on as it doesn't effect the ending either way. This is bad design for an old game.(I screwed up on Carth and Juhani's one).
-Stuck in old Resolution(square box for newer computers). If you can play through it like I did you'll be fine. Highest is 1024x768. Doesn't go any higher.
-Combat is point and click, I consider this a con for me. Maybe not you. I rather have it third person hack and slash like Jedi Academy.
-Companion dialogue can be painful to go through. You might miss the opportunity to hear all of its story. Espeically when you miss or cannot finish companion side quest.
-There are just so much dialogues in the game, if you want to hear it all you have to reload save.
-Kashyyyk taken over by wookies prevents you from activating Carths quest and possible Juhani's. Juhani one activate on Korriban.
-Yavin 4 has a black screen bug. If you save during black screen, you can reload save file it should go back to normal.

Dark side Ending tip: If you have a save file of being light side before you meet Bastila in the temple, you can chose your evil dialogue and join her. This way you don't have to play the whole game again for Dark side ending.

REALLY?! REALLY?! It refuses to run on modern hardware? I get that fact, really I do, but come on, this is REALLY unacceptable.
Constant freezes, constant crashes, and worse.
Really want to get my money back, but at the same time, I really want to play this, and don't have access to another version.

That moment when you realize Mission Vao is only 14.
14/10 would shamefully fap again.

EDIT: Please do not hate, this review was merely satire. I didn't feel the need to make a serious review seeing as everyone and their mothers already know what an amazing game KOTOR is, so please, if you haven't, go play it.

At this point I highly doubt my opinion will cause anyone to buy this game but here goes:
This is the best an RPG can be. The absoloute hieght of lore and decisions that affect the outcome of an entire galaxy. Not only does the game let you feel the power of a force user, it lets you do what you want to with it. But your choices have reprocussions to those around you, some of whom you can turn away entirely or even slaughter. Play this game and I promise you will fall in love with the individual charactors and the universe as a whole. This is the best we have gotten so far in gaming. No more is needed to say. No gamer can claim such a title without having played through this game at least once.

Quite probably my favourite game ever.

I fell in love with it on the original XBOX version, then bought for PC when the XBox died. I've bought it at least twice over the years.
I am sure the genre has surpassed this classic in many ways, but I have never felt as immersed in the Star Wars universe than in this game.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this game, I completed it in about 40 hours and god was it good, that being said, it didn't come without any drawbacks, the steam version is very bugged, and there are so many problems I cant even list all of them, the biggest ones in my opinion, is the "can't move after combat bug", and the lack of fullscreen resolutions, I'm amazed at how valve has basically done nothing about this, it still one of the best rpgs of all time, and trust me, im not the only one saying that. If you want to buy this game, go for it, it'll probably work on your system, just dont be so amazed if it doesn't. Just know that if you buy this game, you'll have to play it like it was 2003 unless you go really deep into fixing all the broken stuff, which you can fix by extensive troubleshooting.

A realy good game. It may be a bit old, it may look old and some parts may seem, with today's standards a litle bit "stupid", so to speak.

But the rest is realy good. A good story, which, thanks to the settings in the Old republic-era make you think of how big the Star Wars-univers is.

I realy like it and for those of you who feel that you want to escape the prequals, originals and sequals and still have fun in Star Wars-univers, it is totaly the game for you! The good story with the different options make you feel a bit of personal involvment in the happinings.

Give it a try and may the Force be with you!

I am now 26 years old, twice as much as I was when I first played this game. I was already impressed with Bioware's Neverwinter Nights at the time, but the hundreds of hours I spent on KotOR really set the bar for all future RPGs for me. Features you love games like Jade Empire, Mass Effect, KotOR 2 and Dragon Age or even Arcanum, The Elder Scrolls and newer Fallouts for were pretty much all introduced to me by KotOR. A great soundtrack, deep companion stories, good/evil choices that make a difference in the storyline, plentiful side-quests, plot-twists, they're all there. This game was certain to become a classic the moment it hit the shelves in the second half of 2003.

Definitely among The Essentials.
