This soundtrack evolves from the previous Half-Life games, encompassing several moods and transiting very well from industrial to rock. Completely worth having in your music library, especially for free!

Just like Half Life 2, episode 2 adds more of the same style of in game atomospheric music that changes depending on the player's location. I would say Episode 2's soundtrack more so has uptempo/action music than the previous 2 games of the Half Life 2 franchise. The reason being is your outside mostly in this game and outside the premises of city 17.

This is a review for the Half-Life 2: Episode Two soundtrack as tracks to listen to outside of a gaming session.

Half-Life 2's music is predominantly ambient tracks or electronic/mechanical sounding music. The music serves very well as background to the game itself, in that it merges with your surroundings, and doesn't stand out at all. Unfortunately, this results in much of the music not being particularly memorable, thereby not linking to the emotional feel of the game when listening to the tracks outside the game. That being said, I've found Episode Two's music to be better than the base game's or Episode One's, in that it's focus is more on the electronic aspect instead of the ambient aspect, and it has an entertaining, driving beat.

Absolutely worth having for the price, and it's a perfectly serviceable album. Not one of the best game albums I've ever listened to, but definitely enjoyable.

My three favorites:
1. Vortal Combat
2. Last Legs
3. Hunting Party
And for one reason, it's the music played in the most amazing fights in the game.

Steam downloads game soundtracks to a separate folder in your game's Steamapps directory. You can right-click on a game in your Steam Library, select Properties>Local Files and click Browse Local Files to access that game's directory.

This soundtrack is more prominent than EP1's ambient fare, with some truly great tracks to match the action seen in the game itself. Unfortunately, there is one track missing from this arrangement: Crawl Yard.

I also have to say that Abandoned In Place is one of my favorite tracks in the entire series, followed closely by Sector Sweep.

Personally, I'm very glad Valve decided to release the music for the Half-Life and Portal games for free with any purchases of the games themselves.
