One of my favorite things about this game is the music. Also it's free so that's good too. You should also get the soundtracks for Episode 1 and 2 and Half-Life source

More of a sountrack than the one for the original Half-Life, but you can definitely hear the resemblances. These tracks are as mysterious as the game, meaning very strong connections between the atmospheres and the music. The Half-Life 2 sountrack still include these short bits of noise much similar to Half-Life 1's, but in between every other track there's a "genuine" song.

I have probably played Half-Life 2 a bit too much but tracks like "CP Violation" just screems running from Combine Metrocops after just arriving at City 17. Probably because that's the exact scene when this song plays. This soundtrack is so hard to review alone, without thinking about the game. That's the thing innit, you can't just take Half-Life 2's music apart from the game, that ruins everything. I know it can be said with all soundtracks, that's why they are there.

It's the sountrack of The. Best. Game. Ever. It contributes to so much of what made the game so epic.

Ever since Steam Music beta launched I have actively listened to my favorite sountracks, including Valve's originals. Here are some favorites from Half-Life 2 and the Episodes (not going to make individual reviews for them):

Composer: Kelly Bailey

Half-Life 2:
1. "Hazardous Environments"
2. "CP Violation"
8. "Revenholm Reprise"
11. "Slow Light"
12. "Apprehension and Evasion"
15. "Miscount Detected"
17. "Triage at Dawn" (Oh Half-Life 3, where are you?)
23. "Kaon"
24. "You're Not Supposed to Be Here"
26. "Hard Fought"
28. "Shadows Fore and Aft"
32. "Black Mesa Inbound"
34. "Tracking Device"
39. "Tau-9"

Episode 1:
3. "Guard Down"
5. "Self Destruction"
10. "Penultimatum"

Episode 2:
5. "Vortal Combat"
6. "Sector Sweep"
9. "Abandoned in Place"
11. "Hunting Party"
12. "Eon Trap"

While a few of the tracks are re-used from Half Life 1 (which isn't bad at all), almost every other song succeeds in being what it trys to be.

Also, it's free.

The whole OST.

For free.

I'll let that sink in.

I usually poke around the game files of all games I buy so I can listen to the soundtrack (if I happen to like the soundtrack). This makes that easier... except you seem to need to install the game in order to download the soundtrack. My HD is only so big and my connection not very fast, so I don't want to wait many hours for the download to finish. :(
