"Doesn't feel like an Alpha game."
This game is amazingly polished- the current game world is beautiful, as well as it's deadly inhabitants.
The stealth gameplay in this is intense- you don't have to just worry about where your own prey is going, but also becoming prey yourself. A friend and I played for 6 hours straight our first run through, where we found decent equipment to hold off the raptor packs that are very intelligent as they can flank you, or surround you overwhelming you no matter what kind of gun is in your own hands.
Terrifying; I've never felt so much suspense and fear as I have in this game, not since the game Carnivores, an old (same concept) dinosaur hunter from my childhood. I'm glad it's back, and bigger, better than ever. My heart races when a pack of 8 raptors surround us, searching for us as we are both hidden in a bush just hoping they don't trip over us.
This game takes a lot of patience to start with. You only have a bow, and limited arrows when you first get in, and have to scavenge your gear- finding guns, or even guns with proper ammo is hard. My friend and I travel carefully, I'm the spotter, he's the tracker. We keep at a safe distance from one another, around 50-100 meters, this way if a raptor spots one of us, or anything else, one of us is at least out of sight and can take some potshots at the invaders to save the other. That's just how this game works- it takes cooperation, teamwork, and a lot of instinct to stay alive. I wouldn't recommend to anyone who isn't patient, or doesn't like hunting games, because the gun concept is very realistic. Don't expect to just shoot from the hip- you need to raise your gun first- which takes a time you don't have when running around oblivious to your environment and just who might be in that bush.
The damage on the dinos is a bit ridiculous right now. I myself have shot raptors from a distance of 10-50 yards from stealth, gotten perfect 1 hit heart shots with a varity of weapon types- but sometimes you can shoot them in the heart 2-3 times, in the face once, in the liver twice, and guess what, he still won't go down. Expect that right now- because it is a major issue of the game. T-Rex's are the hardest prey because they are ridiculously intelligence, and can even find you in the best hiding spots- and it can take an arsenal to take down sometimes. Seems to be luck of the draw sometimes with shots, might be something with the way the game registers damage- heart shot should be fatal, but most of the time it isn't.
