Ah the classics, you don't get much better than that. The whole concept of this mystery game was brilliant. You get to stay on a lake, in a house that belonged to a gangster, and get to explore a speakeasy, it's awesome! Every time I play this game I'm always thrilled and deeply amused by it. Everything you do in this mystery challenges your brain and you get to do cool things like getting thrown into a shack and you have to escape before you burn up in flames. The thing I like the most in this game is the detail of the house with countless references to Mickey Malone's dogs. You really get the vibe from this game just how much one person can truly value their pets -- even if they are the key to finding secret loot. For this being one of the very small handful of first made Nancy Drew games, this is a pretty good game and it challenges your sleuthing skills. It's also a really good game to go back to for a refresher if you haven't played a mystery game in a while.

Hounds of Baskerville, Speakeasys and Prohibition

This is exactly what this game is having as contents, exactly not the Baskerville creature but the "ghost" - dogs of a former Gangster. You have to uncover a lot of clues, which at last lead to the final solution of the mysterie behind the secret of Moon Lake.

Nancy Drew Adventures are quite often disregarded as childish, and especially girlie adventures - I beg to differ. They are worthwhile and even for adults they offer a lot of relaxing if not outright fun of the suspense story kind. Forget those blasted Visual Novels, most of them aren't worth the black dirt from under your fingernails. But digging up real mysteries and trying to make sense out of leads, or fall for red herrings is indeed a lot of fun.

Sure, the graphics are already dated. But the story that is told inside this game is still very vibrant and good. Nancy Drew is sometimes compared as a Mary Sue character, but if you delve deeper into this mater you will take note that she isn't she can have accidents, which sometimes draw her off a case, or even... well kill her... and you'll come to love the stories that are told in the adventures. Why, you ask? Because they remind you of the stories you have read as a kid, or you have seen series with the same suspense stories.

I recomend this game to anyone who loves Adventure, Riddle and Suspense games, with real culprits to catch and ghosts that only exist because somebody is still telling their stories.

I downloaded this because it was too scary to play through when I was 8. It was nice to finally know the ending after 13 years.
10/10 would make 5,000 trips to the cemetery and back again.

Another great Nancy Drew game, this one featuring terrifying dogs that attack in the middle of the night.
Really hoping for mod where the dogs get changed to pugs.

I honestly thought this game was going to be really spooky because of what happens in the very beginning, but that is the only appearance. Otherwise, it isn't scary at all.

I liked the puzzles and how they revolved around the dogs. I also enjoyed the story, although it felt weird without the use of a cell phone. (That's only because I played Danger on Deception Island first.)

Definitely recommend this game.

Love love love. Ive played this many times over when I had the original CD and on steam. This is a classic point and click detective game. Just from the beginning you are sucked in, wanting to know more about those mysterious "ghost dogs." The game does have a bit of a spooky vibe to it in the beginning (at least when I was a kid) but not nearly as much as some other Nancy Drew games.

Story: Nancy's friend calls asking her to come to this old cabin she bought. Upon your arrival Nancy's friend has left because she was too scared (what a puss). After her friend explains over the phone what is going on and no way for Nancy to leave she is left to her first spooky experience during the night at Moon Lake. You also learn about the history of the cabin which was owned by Mickey Malone, a notorious gangster who happen to own a few dogs.

Gameplay: Has some good exploration including a few activities that have you run around in the woods looking for things such as bugs and taking pictures of birds. The puzzels are fun and not too difficult other than one that requires you understand roman numerals (ugh). The characters are interesting and you get to befriend an old grumpy man who birdwatches. You also get to see some cute dogs which is always a plus.

All in all its a fantastic point and click game and id probably rate it a 9/10. Although its great for anyone to play I would really recommend for older kids because I had a blast playing these games with my mother when I was younger!

Took a few hours to play through but its actually a nice brain teaser in some puzzles. The theme is really great with a creepy lake forest vibe to it. You alternate between day and night through the play through and some points actually give you a bit of the chills (music track is great, sets the mood perfectly). It is not impossible to solve but also not so easy either. If you're new to this type of game play or even if you've been a long time fan like me, this is a good game to add to the collection. Classic, I know there are older games than this but compare to how long ago it was made it's sorta could be put into the section of classic? Good game, play it now!

This one is the third I've done and not as good as the rest. It finished up in half the time. I think they knew the tasks were impossibly vague because her notes would spell out exactly what to do. I'd go for a different one.

Good characters, nice plot, and some really great music! The only thing I didn't like was the forest section, and the task list. They both got a little tedious and slow at times. 4/5

This game was my FAVORITE growing up. When you are 8, playing in the middle of the night, it is pretty terrifying. Just ran through again, it was nice, I had nearly forgotten everything. I still enjoy it, though, less scary to me than it was fifteen years ago =)
