About This Software

The "Character Creator - Graphics Pack" is a content pack comprised of modular graphic .PNG files that can be combined, remixed, or modified to create your own sprites. The current version pack includes around 1,000 files.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This is not a game or software application

To be fully utilized, it needs an imaging editing program or game engine. Png images work well in many game engines such as Game Maker Studio. This graphic pack is great for game prototyping, placement graphics, or final product.

Key Features:

1) Included in the Indie Graphics Bundle - If you already own the Indie Graphics Bundle, this pack is already included in it.

2) Planned Updates- This is Version 1.0, our current plans are to keep adding content and add more avatars like those included already.

3) License - Use the Steam Package for your game, web, print, or other commercial development project. All assets are royalty free, no hidden costs.

4) Full Access - You may edit, manipulate, and change the graphics in any way for use with your game development.

Included Assets:

8 Avatars
20 Completed Characters
Body Parts (heads, eyes, body's)

I've just bought this and taken a quick look at it and I like what I see so far. This graphics pack is a valuable asset for those making (pixel art) RPG games and could easily be used with the RPG Maker series (though you do have some work to make it compatible). But aside from RPG Maker you can also use the characters for any other 2D engine.

Characters you create will be around 125px high and 50px wide and you have about 6 base bodies to build upon. With the body, head and facials being all seperate elements the sky is the limit when making your characters. Add one of the few dozen clohing items (also seperate elements) to the character and you're close to an infinite number of characters you can make.

With the PLUS, there's also a CON to the system. With these models being made with RPG Maker in mind (though too big for that), there's not much room for animation in other engines aside from the 'fixed' RPG Maker animations. I want to incorporate these models into my Unity RPG game I'll be making and animate them with Spine (awesome skeleton animation tool, not on Steam) and that'll mean that I have a lot of work to do and I'm not sure how it'll come out from the pixel art style the pack has.
An other CON is the clothing for your character, there are also a lot of 'loose items' in there that don't seem to match with anything and there's a lot of 'fixed' sets as well, where you somewhat *MUST* match them, lowering your freedom of choice in sets.

In all, I think this pack is certainly worth to grab if you want to make a fantasy RPG and are in need of a flexible character creation system...

This Character Creator pack's review will be very similar to that which I wrote for the main Indie Bundle Graphics pack, which I backed on Kickstarter in the middle of 2012.

Like sound tracks on Steam, you are not buying an application. You're buying a bunch of content that downloads to your system and will be accessed directly.

This bundle comes with a large amount of content (often broken into pieces, so you can assemble them for a much larger variety of funished pieces) that can be used in prototyping your games, finished games, websites, and just about anything else. Personally, I use it for prototyping my projects (and possibly hiring an artist for custom work, when all is said and done).

At the time of writing, there are almost 1,300 images in this pack. For someone with no pixel-art talent, the character creator bundle is particularly useful for me. I no longer just copy and paste in ridiculous clip art from the web as placeholders or use big grey blobs to represent characters - I refer to the art pack and pull out *actual* artwork to make *actual* characters.

Anyone who would scoff at the price either doesn't actually need artwork or has not dealt with commissioning or licensing actual artwork for games or other projects. I have. You'll usually wind up with a lot more strings limiting your use of the content and you'll pay more than this entire pack costs just for one piece of art work - whether commissioned specifically for you or just licensed from an existing royalty-free clearing house.

If you don't know if you need or want this art bundle, then you probably don't. But you know if you do. And for the price, it's hard to pass up.
