What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to build a strong relationship with the Steam Community and not only give you the chance to improve the game before it gets released but we also want you to be involved in the production process and be a part of our team! We would love to get as many suggestions for improvements and as many ideas as possible, but we would also like to test with you the new and unique mechanics (for example the spell casting system). We want to make a game as good as possible with the help of the most qualified reviewers - the players.”

How long will this game be in Early Access?

“3-6 months depending on the feedback of the community and the changes we will have to implement.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of the game will include more content - among other:

  • Several language versions;
  • Voice-overs;
  • Steam Achievements;
  • Final dialogues and texts;
  • More graphics content;
  • More sounds;
  • Polished gameplay;
  • New features and improvements suggested by players;
  • And more!

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable and can be played from start to finish. However dialogues and text messages are not final and there are still a few bugs here and there (but not critical bugs, rather gameplay bugs). Also the Early Access version is available only in English.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The Early Access version of the game is being offered at a discounted price!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Becoma part of our team and play the Early Access version of Spellcrafter, help us polish the game and suggest new features and improvements! Get your name mentioned in the credits of the game and win awesome awards (contests coming soon)!”

About This Game

Magic is not an art or religion. Magic is a craft.

Get the Early Access version of Spellcrafter, become part of our team and get your name mentioned in the credits of the game!

Experience an amazing and unforgettable adventure set in a dark fantasy universe!

Spellcrafter is an RPG game with deep tactical turn-based combat and a unique spell casting system. Explore the magical world, collect gold, interact with NPCs, take quests and make moral choices! Recruit heroes, assemble and summon powerful troops and send them into battle!

The unique feature of Spellcrafter is the spell casting system. The game recognizes the sign you draw on the screen and automatically chooses the appropriate spell from the spellbook. If you don’t remember the correct sign you are able to consult the spellbook, but beware! Reaching for the spellbook takes additional time and the quicker you cast your spell, the more powerful it will be!

The game is divided into 3 acts. Each of them tells a part from a compelling and magical story about the nature of reality, power and morality. You are able to choose from three races and play as human, control necromancer forces or fight for the elves. Each act features 3 levels with a different setting.

Spellcrafter is a Premium Game (no IAPs, no F2P mechanics).

First impression (not good):

No loot system.
No Inventory.
No map.
No quest system, journal or really any form of a story in general.
Big buttons everywhere that don't require clicking directly on.
Oversized text/labels in general that glitch out, becoming unclickable.
No tooltips of any kind describing unlockable skills during leveling up.
Zoomed in (fixed)view that self rotates, causing you to feel sick.
Animations from the 90s.
'Swipe' gestures for casting spells.
Thus far one audio track that loops over and over and over..
Game runs on unity with graphic options of "PC".. (does support 1440p+)

Sorry devs, but this game is obviously developed with mobile users in mind.
Maybe you should have started with a launch on that platform first?
Quite disappointed so far.

Good luck with turning it into something better.
Will keep my eye on it considering I've spent the cash already.

Notes:
Gameplay similar to HoMM(without a castle).
Buy units at vendor, kill badguys, collect gold, buy more units.
'Quests' involve talking to npcs standing in the way and fighting once you have enough units.

The spell idea is good but the current magic management is absent, the up-level managment is too simplistic. Could there be most explanations and effects for each upgrade I do? please put some undo buttons. The keyboard is dead. I played it like 15 minutes and I am already fed up with it. Please! somebody needs doing some major work here. Zoom-out is impossible and the auto-camera changes made me feel dizzy, why the fuss? Just allow the user the change the camera as they wish.

Would I recommend this game, No, not at this stage. 13-08-2014

Needs a lot of work. Nice graphics so far, with some better UI could be quite fun.

The devs probably have this stuff on there list of todos. These were the most obvious requiments to me.
  • Level menu has no tool tips for what bonus you're unlocking.
  • Needs a veiw army menu also, with info on each unit.
  • Camera follow is a bit annoying. Either have it user controled or stablise the motion.
  • I like the mouse motion to cast spell. But it took me a while to realise it was the faint ball of light to imitate.

sure it could certainly use more, but what it does do is use the basic tools of this type of genre, and adds the flick of a wrist,mouse. and although targeting could be smoother, it does the job fine on my settings, for the price is totally worth it.
