Does Dizzel have what it takes to separate itself from the normal online shooters nowadays?
The answer is a resounding NO!
Here comes the train, bringing the bad news.
a) The game engine is an organized mess, just put it like that. The game textures lack interest, but I understand the devs trying to release a game that runs well on all sorts of pc rigs...
b) The character hitbox in this game is ridiculous at times. And coupled with the ping advantage, it's a hit&miss extravaganza. What looked like a headshot turned out to be a body shot, and some of the times resulted in a miss.
Trying to shoot someones elbow, feet? Nah, no actual hit registration for those, most of the times. You have better luck shooting someones gun and score a kill, at least that's how it looks visually.
Characters can stay fully hidden behind corners and still manage to shoot you, since the weapon_fov is bugged and the bullets appear to originate either from the character's face or armpits. I found out semi-auto rifles to be the funniest example of bullet fail.
Also, did I mention flying raggdolls? Get executed while getting shot? Visual raggdoll cannonball...
c) The weapon penetration values (stats) are meh to say the least. If a 80-95dmg sniper rifle has 50% penetration values but 0 stopping power, how come 1 or 3 shots to the head brings the player down to 15%. I'm not talking about fully geared players here, just 1-5 ranked, the smilie faced ranks.
Weapon penetration and stopping power should ignore armor entirely, better yet: remove the damn stats alltogether.
d) Cover system is a joke. Stand near a wall or corner and auto cover. This turned out to be more of a nuissance than helpful, especially regarding camera pov. And it got me killed more than anything else.
e) The old "free 2 play" gimmick is still alive. Don't tell us you'll be selling cosmetics only in the shop, when a piece of gear (armor) has stats on it, stats that can bulk up your HP pool or increase your mobility, etc.
You might iterate that you're going to sell characters (head skins), which is fine, but unless you strip the skin armors of stats, you're still hiding good stuff behind a paywall.
And did I mention the weapon restrictions? In order to get the best sniper rifle ingame (right now), you have to grind till kingdom come. With the lack of a proper wiki detailing the rank values, and a poorly optimized shop UI, is the best sniper rifle worth leveling 40 ranks for it, if it only brings 10 extra dps and the penetration values stay the same?
f) The "special ingredient": bringing a knife to a gun fight = ye dumb melee
This has to be one of the dumbest feature in the game. Stripping a character's secondary slot entirely and leaving him with a primary gun and a melee weapon. What were you thinking?
Way to create and restrict players to a pattern. Well, if you took this path, make melee feel rewarding in terms of points / xp.
g) Camera/mouse issues drive me crazy. (Un)snapping from cover leads to eratic camera movement.
And asking for a fov slider would be too much, but the 3d view seems 60fovish at best, really restrictive visually.
h) Weapon bullet drop?!
I don't seen any mention of this anywhere in the weapon UI meniu and stats. But I've noticed that, for sniper rifles, the bullet tracer has drop rates.
I could thumbs-up the weapon sounds FX. And perhaps the ambient music, but it doesn't bring extra value if played non-stop, in a loop-fest.
The most entertaining thing I enjoyed in this game was the raggdoll physics & elasticity:D
I'm not excited about the leveling system, based on grinding your brains out trying to reach xyz rank, but since Dizzel is a generic shooter, rank away fool!
The game is clunky, tied up to OGPlauncher, making streaming difficult to setup. I tried using OBS, didn't work. I managed to get nvidia shadowplay to record the ingame footage, but the actual lobby/shop window, alas.
Dizzel, where art thou Dizzel?
This game is still in early access development and will remain thus, despite all future updates. It's just like any other early access games released on steam, trying to bank on the idea of mulching players for money, with the hopes and lures of getting a better game released to the masses.
Dizzel could bring 10-20 hrs of online "entertainment" for the casuals, but it's a lackluster shooter bringing nothing new to the table.
Since Dizzel on steam doesn't allow use of existing OG account, I was forced to play on my old one. Here's some actual footage of the game, videos that depict the game's faults:http://www.twitch.tv/haaxxx/b/560102152http://www.twitch.tv/haaxxx/b/560116657http://www.twitch.tv/haaxxx/b/561084974http://www.twitch.tv/haaxxx/b/561124316http://www.twitch.tv/haaxxx/b/561197964http://www.twitch.tv/haaxxx/b/561331026
I did my best to rank as fast as possible, to reach the higher-end weapons, but the grind is too horrendous and I ditched the game for the moment.
