About This Game

Combining elements of arcade simulation and strategic management, Taxi! puts you in control of an up and coming cab firm based in any one of three 3D cities. You’ll begin with a rundown old taxi, picking up passengers and fulfilling a variety of dispatch missions until you manage to muster up enough cash to upgrade your cab and invest in new vehicles.
Choose your staff wisely, while one driver may be expensive to hire they are less likely to take risks which will end in a collision catastrophe that’ll see you picking up the costly tab at the local garage. Each driver will excel in a particular area but some may be less experienced so you’re not going to want to risk one of your fully upgraded cars on an inexperienced driver that is more likely to prang the vehicle into an unidentifiable mess of metal.
Each of the three cities, based in America, Europe and the U.K includes its own unique cars and will require you to consider what side of the road you’ll need to drive on. Be cautious of potholes, oil slicks, peak time traffic and speed bumps as you seek to deliver your passenger to their destination in a timely manner.
There are a variety of obscure missions that you’ll need to complete that will include impatient passengers encouraging you to break traffic laws to get to their destination quickly and precariously balancing luggage on the roof rack of your taxi.

Features

  • Crashes will cause your taxi cab to dent
  • Hire taxi drivers
  • Purchase new vehicles
  • Upgrade vehicles
  • Day & Night cycle

I honestly can't recommend it, not for the price it's asking. The options menu only addresses audio volumes and quality, with no way to adjust keybinds and other important details you'd expect from a driving "sim"...I use that term very loosely as there isn't even turn signals (none that I've found anyway). This feels more like an arcade game without the bells and whistles. You can drive through people (you ghost through them) and red lights without penalty, assuming there's no one in the car with you. Disobeying laws or crashing with passengers in your car will either hurt or help you, depending on what they want. You can wreck your car but the physics and damage are laughable at best. The road signs for the US location aren't even correct...the speed limit signs are rectangular and white, not circular and white/red. The game can also be a bit buggy at times. GTA's Taxi mini-games were more enjoyable, which is a real shame. Wait for a 75% + off sale if you must have it.

Some really severe problems with this game with lots of bugs. Others have already pointed this out in detail. Worst of all if you start to build up your taxi company and need to to go for a break, THE GAME WILL NOT EVEN ♥♥♥♥ING SAVE!!!!!! What sort of stupid ♥♥♥♥ is that and WTF are Steam doing selling this game in this condition?

Potentially a good game, but obviously the developer could not be arsed to finish properly to have the required content and quality. Quite frankly I'd like to go around to their office and punch them straight in the gob for conning me out of £7.49.

DO NOT BUY THIS RUBBISH UNTIL THEY SORT IT OUT PROPERLY!

Typical indie game, this time it's about driving the taxi.
- game is a bit bugged, but nothing that can kill the mood. Be careful with hired drivers though, they have a tendency of being dumb when you spectate them
- only one view, but camera is doing an okay job to show you the road. Traffic lights are shown not only as usual, but as lines on the road too, which is helpful. Speed limit is shown all the time, it's 30 or 40, depends on the street
- no Steam Achievements, no trading cards. Yes, it has few in-game achievements, but when do Steam users care about them?
- 3 different cars per each of three regions (makes 9 cars at the end), first one is unlocked, others are unlockable by collecting 5 of their parts
- not too many opportunities for an actual management - hire driver, buy him a car, upgrade it a bit, tell him to go out and start picking passengers, spectate him, drive for him. That's pretty much it. Oh, and upgrades aren't enchancing the perfomance of car, but decreasing it's maintenance
- money can be earned easily if you know what to do (you can fill 8-slot cab depot in 10 minutes by only completing emergency client pickups) and can be spent even easier on cab upgrades, which will in overall cost you ten times more than your car, trust me
- physics.... It's an arcade! What would you expect?

At the end i can tell you one thing:
Look at the gameplay videos. Ask yourself, do you think it will be boring for you if you will be driving around like this for couple of hours? No? Not boring? Well, that means you are like me, who likes driving games. Spend some money, spend couple of hours, maybe couple of evenings, then forget about this game. Boring? Go find yourself somethins else, this is just an indie game about driving taxi, not some Crazy Taxi

I've given this game some fair play time and I personally don't see what the big deal is with the negative reviews. If you're someone that grew up to this sort of graphics and actually play the game properly, whilst tolerating it for what it actually is, it's not half as bad as most of the reviews make it out to be.

Whilst it's a very basic and feature-lacking game, it has a nice AI where passengers are placed randomly and drop-off points are random also, so each time you pick a passenger up you don't need to worry about having the same story, because it will ALWAYS be different.

To add, I haven't even experienced most the bugs that other people seem to claim, the only bug (which is extremely minor, a graphical bug at that) I found was the street lighting to flicker.

For the price it's at, it's obviously not worth it, but I found it in a bundle for about $1/£0.65, so no one can argue for that price. Really good game if you just need a few hours to kill or need something that doesn't require a lot of thought.

Good concept, bad game

The concept behind this game is rather appealing to me, but the execution is poor. There are two major game-breaking bugs that require reloading your last good save or restarting entirely. (Pick-up/drop-off points not loading properly, getting stuck on the map screen with AI taxi drivers) In addition, the concept of having a team of drivers and managing your taxi company is great, but you'll find that once you get a couple drivers, you'll be making money so stupidly fast that the game quickly turns from a fun interactive taxi simulation game to an idle game where you just watch your numbers grow. It only takes a couple hours to completely max out.

Overall, I'd say skip this and wait for a better game within the same genre. I'd pay $40-$60 for a GOOD taxi simulation game simular to Euro Truck SImulator, but this is certainly not it, and not even worth half the price of what its listed for.

UPDATE: There are currently a few game-breaking bugs that need to be addressed.

A fun little game that bridges the gap between arcade driving and business simulation. Graphics and car handling are passable. If you've liked other Excalibur titles, you're likely to enjoy this one too.

I really like this game, although it gets really annoying when the AI decides to stop and reverse in a circle, hitting your cab and other ai. This game would be great if the developers could fix this issue.

What can be said?

You drive a taxi, pick people up then drive them to where they would like to be for some money.

I can't see myself replaying this.

I had seen the trailer and screenshot for this game prior to release and was quite interested in it. Unfortunately when it was released I did see quite poor feedback.

Nonetheless, I jumped on board and bought the game. The game was playable, but lacking quite a bit. There were many issues when playing on London, esp the roundabouts. The issues were so bad that they were funny. You can see the troubles I encountered in the clip I uploaded onto Youtube: http://youtu.be/Vk2hiloZCbg

Update 04-09-2014
They have launched an update to the game on 3rd Sept. I have installed the updated and although it has fixed the major issues I experienced and the game is now playable, there are still quite a few issues. Again below is the play through I had (the game seems to start going downhill from when i hire in the second video below:

It's a rather bland and inaccurate depiction of the Taxi TV show from the late 70s to early 80s, lacking all the character and charm of the TV series. It doesn't even have the classic TV theme. Highly disappointing.
