What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Because we want to make a very fun game for the gamers, we need their ideas and feedback. Because Steam is the biggest distribution platform on the internet it was our goal to launch the game on Steam. On Steam we know we can get the best feedback to make our game LEGENDARY. Also this game so far is made with a 0€ budget and because graphics cost money and sadly can't do them myself we need a budget, because some Kickstarter projects ended up being a disaster we're already giving you early access to our game including Steam achievements and trading cards to collect.

During each update we will put up new levels with different play styles. According to the feedback of users we will tweak to make them easier or harder (More challenging).”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“This game is in Early Access to get feedback from the players to give them the experience they want. In most games you're doing the same thing over and over and over. That's something we try to avoid with making Blob From Space. We will use the feedback from players for ingame features, other ways to play the game and new game modes to make the game as challenging as possible. For more details about these features please make sure you read our answer to "How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?" We try to keep the game in Early Access for 6-12 months depending on the support we get from the players.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have better graphics and over 100 levels of different challenges. During these challenge you could be either flying/driving a vehicle trying to escape from the evil planet, or walking your way through an upside-down level, dark levels in which you only have a short amount of sight, under water levels in which you don't need to jump, but you need to be carefull for swimming enemies. Also some missions will not just be go from point A to point B, but there will be levels in which you need to collect objects. When you collected all objects you are able to go to the next level with a new challenge. There also will be different settings. Lava levels which are way harder than normal levels and ice levels which can be very untrustfull (With slippery tiles and cracking through ice).

All levels will have a puzzle element. This means you will need the transform powers to get through the level. Most levels are solvable in different ways.

The Blob will also have more powers to use. These powers will be unlocked during the story mode. These powers are slowing down enemies and jumping against walls. There will be over 10 enemies all with their special powers. These powers are needed to solve puzzles in levels. This game will offer you a very fun gaming experience. A game experience in which you can challenge your friends to beat your highscore. We also will add a leaderboards so you can challenge people all around the world to beat your highscore.

This game will even feature local co-op mode in the full version. Play with your friend on the same computer. In these co-op mode you will need to help eachother or play against eachother to get the best score.

During Early Access we will try to put out an update every month or every 2 months with new levels, features and achievements.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At this moment we have a "rage" game with over 15 levels (You will need to replay the game a few times to see all the levels) with Steam features like achievements and trading cards. We already implemented the dark levels and the mini-games are already in the game as well.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We can't promise to keep the price the same at launch. This is because we maybe need a bigger team to help making the game better. By expending the team we need a bigger budget.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will listen to all the feedback the gamers have. Sadly we can't use all the feedback, but we will learn alot from it. On the forums people can leave their ideas and we will try to put it in the game. Ideas that we really appreciate are ideas to make the game more challenging and ways to change the style of playing the game.”

About This Game

With this game we try to challenge the player to finish the entire game with only 3 continues.

There are no save points so you have to make the entire run in one go.

If you have friends (Or the internet) you can share cheat codes to skip some levels, but don't forget you will not get the maximum amount of points and maybe not able to unlock certain achievements using cheat codes. The choice is yours.

With this game we're trying to get back to the old retro gaming age. Of course back in the time we didn't had Steam and it's awesome features, so it's not completely back to the retro gaming age.

We try to make the game challenging as possible. Easy to learn to play, but you will need some skill to complete the game, because the further you get in the game, the harder the challenges will be. At some point you will have less vision, or maybe you're Blob will be upside-down.

Paying homage to games from the earliest days of video gaming, Blob From Out of Space is easy to play, but difficult to complete 2D side scroller.

Blob is flying through space when his UFO gets shot down by a rocket and crash lands on an unknown planet. Blobs brother is promptly captured by the planets evil leader and it's up to Blob to save him and to escape from the planet.

How the game plays is up to you. Each decision opens up a new path. Collecting diamonds opens up more choices, but with them comes addition risk. With only 3 continues available and no save, risk is a bad thing! Discovered a cheat? Share it with your friends, but use a cheat and you won’t get the maximum number of points. The choice is yours.

This game has:
  • Controller support
  • Local Co-op
  • Trading cards
  • Achievements

Special Blob powers
  • Transform into enemies
  • Stick powers - slow down enemies
  • Wall jumping - jump against walls and jump again to reach places you were never able to reach without wall jumping

To make the game more challenging during the story we will be adding new gameplay features every update.

Gameplay features:
  • Over 100 levels including Dark levels (play with only a small amount of the screen visible); Vehicles levels (drive/fly a vehicle and avoid explosions and bombs); Underwater levels (no jumping, but watch out for water creatures)
  • Great learning curve
  • Mini games - Diamond Rush and Retro Blob (Puzzle game)
  • Challenge your friends in YOLO Mode
  • Play with friends in local co-op mode

Relaxing game modes:
  • Diamond Rush
  • Retro Blob (Puzzle game)

Based on community feedback, we will be delivering regular updates including upside-down levels.

This game has been in development for years, Alpha status yet after loading to the main menu I find they have not completed an options menu [alt tab, mute in Windows Audio Mixer or equivalent on your operating system].

Many other numerous issues saw me just quit the game and regret getting this item for free. Majority of game duration is trying to get steam trading cards so ignore with regards to this review.

In short, I recommend that you skip this item.

only raging you will get from this game is how terrible this concept has been worked out

P.S. if you somehow got your hands on this game then at least play the 2014 version since that's better than the new one in my opinion

I was worried that it is only me who will write a negative review about this game, but then I saw that most of the reviews were negative.

Actually I tried to enjoy this game, but I couldn't. The graphics are awful, gameplay mechanic is unenjoyable and the fact that you can die 3 times and then game over is unbeliveable.

i assumed from the video that it was a nice little platformer, but its absolutely dreadful - i wouldnt even wish this game on my worst enemy - the 16 bit version you cant use a controller and the newer version you can but the controlls are terrible espically when flying as an enemy - up with left stick and left and right with the right stick......and the jumping as standard - you jump a mile into the area out of the screen at times and you cant see where you are going to land....

honestly dont buy it!!!!!

If you have patience, like a challenge or just want a game with achievements that will make you think then this is a good title to pick up.

If you want a quick 100%, something easy or maybe something to unwind after work then you should probably stay far away. Be warned, the controls & limited lives will really induce the rage as mentioned on the store page.
Good luck!

On another note, the developer (JosPlays) is also very active in the discussions. He answered all my posts in a pretty timely fashion that i can remember, and it always saved me from further achievement frustrations.

Okay, you get two versions of this game. The original 2014 version that looks like it's created using MS Paint and uses up for jumping. Then there's the new version which looks slightly better and introduces the worst ever implementation of wall jumping. The controls in both versions are really bad and in an insta-death platformer that's not a good thing at all. Those problems are severe, but if the game had at least any interesting levels or something else that would warrant playing the game, I wouldn't mind the control problems that much. Unfortunately both versions have bland, boring and unimaginative level with only one saving grace: You can turn into monsters to overcome certain parts of the levels. While this idea is quite good, the combination of controls and poor level design just make it absolutely frustrating to use.

The one interesting aspect of the game is hindered by a poor presentation, horrible controls and boring level design. Really not worth your time and there has to be a landslide of improvements (given there is already a second version) before this game is worth your time.

Let me begin by saying: THIS GAME IS AWFUL.

As a huge fan of underappreciated indie games, the fact that this kind of garbage gets greenlit over far superior and more deserving games is actually pretty disheartening.

[EARLY ACCESS REVIEW]

Pros:

+Quirky art direction
+Interesting premise (basically Kirby minus the enemy swallowing)
+It has steam cards

Cons:

-Bland gameplay
-Unresponsive controls
-Awful U.I.
-Poor controller integration
-Unpolished and disgracefully underdeveloped (even for an early access title)

Frankly, this does not even qualify as a game in any right as it stands - stay away at all costs.

TLDR - Terrible game offers ~10 minutes of terrible gameplay; don't give these people money.

I had opportunity to test this game in early access, so I'm giving my review of this game.
Let's begin with advantages, we got here:
-good, catchy music
-interesting graphics
-couple various enemies
-some different levels to play (not so many at the moment)
-CARDS (For collectors)
And those are the main benefits, i could see. Now let's focus on disadvantages, because "Blob From Space" got a large amount of those.
For example:
-bad controls
-keyboard bugs
-cheats system: you can't choose the level, which you want to play, because you need to know password for individual one
-sometimes you can fall out from the edges
-a little boring levels
---------and many more

In my opinion this game is not worth to be bought for full price, but I played early access, so maybe the game will be improved in the future.

early access review: my score 4/10
there are better games like this out there
got the game in a indie bundle got 10 games for $4 wouldnt pay $5 for the game alone as is

pros:
music worked well with lvs that i played
fun to change in to badies to get past them
hats!!/collectables press Q to change hats

cons:
found myself jumping when i didnt want to (could just be me)
watch the edges you will slide off
cant choose lv (password system)

not realy my style of game but had fun playing it only problems i had were sliding off the edge of platforms and if you hold up you keep jumping with made be head but alot of spikes which made some of my deaths feel like the controls killed me not my skill or lack there of. i wish i didnt have lives would like to see the game a bit harder with no lives repeating lvs already beaten is a drag. being able to choose the lv would be perfered to passwords for me. would be nice to have a blob editer just a place to put on clectables and maybe change the color would play more and recommend but im a password hater

This is a game made for the nicest of the nicest people in our society , this game will make them swear at the screen and maybe even punch a hole through their screen after 15 minutes of playing this game , the game was designed to make you angrier than a bull with red contact lenses , I will recommend this game to anyone who seeks rage or wants to try rage quiting for first time in his life, but the price is higher than the actual gameplay , unless you seek rage.

You know a game is bad when you have to remind yourself to re-open it like 3 times after closing it because it was so horrible just to get the trading cards. For new players as of writing this review, do yourself a favor and play the 2014 version upon loading, the new BETA is just one map to test the wall-jumping, the 2014 version at least has playable content and achievements, etc. It's a game that probably would have felt at home in the early years of DOS games but feels totally out of place in 2015 with it's horrible clunky controls. If they can take the feel of the BETA and implement the idea from the 2014 version it might actually float, but right now it's a sinker and a stinker.
