I had a good time with the game for the most part. I have a few gripes concerning the controls and some of the voice acting. The game developer's weren't able to bring everyone back for their part in the game and it shows. Some of the voice acting is considerably cringeworthy. It sounds as though some of the voice actors were giving an almost parody level impersonation of who they were supposed to portray. The walking controls can get a little goofy too. Especially when the camera angle changes.

Other than that, it was really awesome to get back into the BTTF universe. The sound effects are right on and puzzles are pretty easy to figure out for the most part. Not the greatest adventure game, but the short length makes it forgivable in my eyes. I recommend this to both hardcore fans and casual fans of the movies. Let's see what the other four episodes have in store.

I was a fan of the Walking Dead TellTale game, but this one felt wrong to me. It didn't captivate me at all.

This episodic game is a nostalgia punch to the nuts, where we see Marty has to engage on a quest to save Doc from being killed back in the 30s. If you've purchased this game chances are you are a fan of either TellTaleGames or Back To The Future. Well contratulations on your purchase, for this game feels like the 4th movie nobody ever wanted! How? The DeLorean is back because of plot reasons. And it feels just right.

Then again you may think to yourself "Oh boy I'm so bad at point and click games!". This game is from a TellTale era where you can turn hints on and off at will. If you need a hint you keep asking for one and the game gives it to you, no consequences whatsoever. Overall it's not a hard game to play at all, all you need is luck at the Episode 2 and beg for a bug not to happen, in which case you'll need to look up how to make a cutscene be triggered.

Good game, great story, although the best episodes are the 3rd and the 4th. The 5th felt a little too rushed because of a Michael J Fox SUBTLE cameo. Good continuation to the Back To The Future saga if you ask me!

Brilliant. This was the first telltale game I ever played and I wasn't expecting the "point-and-click" gameplay to be impressive. I was wrong. The story is incredibly engaging whist staying true to the original films (possibly being abit far fetched) but great overall.

The only bad things I could say about the game are that the story could have cut out a few things that I would consier just too predictable or annoying. The game can also be quite repetitive.

Overall, I give this a 7/10

The game would be nice if it wasn't so glitchy.

Having startup issues when changing resolution and switching to full screen, bad controller support, terrible camera movement. Sometimes you'll be walking forward, then the camera will switch directions and you'll start walking in the opposite direction.

The controller has lost functionality. You can see that they tried to add controller support, but it's incomplete. You can't use inventory items with a controller, you must use a cursor, so that's a lost functionality.

Weird dialogue glitches where the camera will be behind a wall and you can't see the characters.

If they fixed these issues, made the camera movement flow better instead of randomly flipping directions, and completed the controller functionality, it would be a fantastic game.

The first thing I noticed is how dated this game is. It is a 6 years old game already so I didn't expect it to be state of the art but it looks and plays like something from the 90's. Then again, it is based on a franchise that started on the 80's so it's oddly appropriate. Plus this game does not just repeat the story of the movies but adds an entirely new adventure which makes it rather intriguing.
The game runs without a problem in my below average windows 10 pc and I didn't encounter any glitches or crashes.
The animation isn't that impressive and neither is the voice acting. I'd say it's the less refined telltale game I've played so far but it's still somewhat ok even though the animated characters sort of slip to the uncanny valley at times. The controls and especially walking around could use an improvement though now it's too late for suggestions to the developers I guess. I still wish navigating the map would be less awkward.
The story however is pretty interesting and fits the movies. The over the top personality of the characters, the god-awful clothes, the DeLorean, all bring back nostalgic memories from the movies.
The movies themselves weren't technically masterpieces themselves either. It was the concept and the characters that I liked back then and the movies that didn't seem to take themselves too seriously and weren't even apologetic for focusing less on science and more on fiction. On that regard this game could be considered a spiritual successor to the films. It's not polished, not well thought of and reeks of cult which makes it fit to the franchise.
It is a risk creating content for or trying to add to an old franchise when people have already immortalized it and worship it. I'd say this game compliments more the back to the future movies than star wars episodes 1-3 compliment episodes 4-6 and considering it is not written by the same person I find the effort pretty good.
So If you've never watched the Back To The Future movies I'm not sure if you will enjoy or even understand this game but for an old fan it's like looking at childhood pictures. Or, more accurately, like learning what happened to old classmates after graduation. With all its flaws I still recommend this game mainly because it picks up the story from where the movies left it and takes the DeLorean out for a few more spins. I did not get the "this should never have been made" or the "they destroyed the franchise" feeling while playing the game. No, it is not great. It does feel part of the franchise though. Part of the classics. I don't know if they made the gameplay dated for even when the game came out intentionally or not but it somehow felt appropriate. And as a stand alone point and click game I would probably just pass it by but this game is what it is and the story redeems it a lot in my eyes which is why I end up recommending it.
There's a lot of exposition and character building if you get into dialogues which is sort of the point of these type of games. The objectives are clear for the most part but I actually got stuck a few times which made hints come in handy. Most of the time hints are useless because it really is better to just figure out how to progress on your own but it's still nice that they're there.

What you usually see in telltale games is little reminders that a character will remember something and it will matter later on in the story. A cheap illusion of choice making you believe that every player gets a unique highly personalized experience. Here the story is as linear as it gets and very few responces actually matter and give you a slightly personalized experience. I don't feel strongly about it either way seeing how in every one of their games you get the same ending regardless of how you play. Here you just go around, solve puzzles and party like it's 1931! It's more or less a conventional point and click game and a conventional video game based on a popular movie franchise. But since it adds a bunch of new content to the old space travelling mythos many know and love I say go for it. I am wary of people unfamiliar to the movies so if you're reading this and you've never watched the films, don't intend to watch them but still want to buy this game I'm not sure what advice to give other than this: Watch the movies and then based on how much you liked them you decide whether you want to play the game or not. To me this game earns the right to be considered a sequel to the films and this is how it should primarily be viewed as. It is ok as a standalone experience but it really can't be enjoyed properly and judged fairly out of context.

From a technical standpoint it's certainly not one of the best games or even one of the best from Telltale Games. But that doesn't mean a fan of the Back to the Future movies can't enjoy the characters, the story and the humor. If you never cared for BttF movies, then this game is probably not for you, but if you are a fan, then this is the closest thing you'll ever have to a fourth movie.

I just couldn't get into it.

I have played Wolf Among Us, I am currently during Tales of the Borderlands and I have done some part of The Walking Dead on iOS and this one is by far the worst one. It's just not as good as the other games made by TellTale. Whenever I finish an episode, I don't feel like "man that was a great story," I would just be happy I don't have to sit through it. I waited for the end because I didn't want to play and I played just because I wanted to finish what I started.

Don't look at the hour played, steam just counts the first episode but I finished all five.
