"A fun, retro themed platformer that beautifully mixes players’ greed for gold coins and wanton destruction. A complete absence of an online component is disappointing, but the local multiplayer is a chaotically fun way to spend time with friends."

Mega Coin Squad is an original and entertaining local multiplayer game with loads of replayability.

Each game is composed of several rounds of randomly chosen (or create your own playlist) game modes. In between each round you get character powerups based on your rank in the last game.

The game modes consist of a simple deathmatch, a mode where you have to collect and bank the most coins, hold the rainbow for a certain amount of time, or collect a set number of megacoins (that spawn one at a time) and bank them to win. These modes are all quite different and fun.

Mega Coin Squad is a very nice addition to any local multiplayer lineup.

Pre-Release Review
Mega Coin Squad is a fast paced arcade-style platformer about collecting coins and hoarding them in your giant piggy bank.

The game features colorful high quality pixel art graphics in a style similar to Scott Pilgrim. The game boasts 5 characters, with unique stats, and 4 distinct worlds each containing 4 levels.

Multiplayer is local only.

Controls are tight, working with an XBox 360 pad right out of the box without issue. Movement feels good, just slightly floaty in a way that I personally enjoy and the jump is spot on with just enough Mario in it to seem familiar right out of the gate.

Each level asks the player to collect an ever increasing amount of coins and deliver them safely to the piggy bank. To aid in accomplishing this the player is given an arsenal of moves and weapons to over come obstacles and enemies including a multi-direction charge ability that clears enemies and blocks, assault rifles and rocket launchers to dispatch baddies and coin magnets and spawners to help you hit your goal and fill your bank.

I enjoyed this game immensely and recommend it on the strength of the graphics, music and single player experience alone.

Adult Swim Games has an established track record of publishing quirky, off the wall indie games. These are often inspired by old 8-bit classics from past console generations and their newest release is no exception. Mega Coin Squad is clearly inspired by Super Mario 3 and it makes no attempt at hiding this fact, emulating the look and feel of the NES classic while adding its own twist on the concept.

With the time I've spent on the game already I see myself and friends playing this when given any chance to play against each other. Who doesn't love a dorky game like this? 10 out of 10!

Charge, hoard and destroy!

This polished 2D-Action-Platformer is ruthlessly easy to understand and frantic to play - especially with local friends.

Imagine the action-laden gameplay of your typical Mario-Game, spiced up by being able to charge in four directions. Now imagine being almost invulnerable while charging, as well as being able to destroy blocks. By now you should feel very mobile and with new exciting combat-options to explore.

This fun can be combined with up to three friends in four different, yet equally entertaining modes of competitive multiplayer.

While this game isn't heavy on content and extras by any means, it really struck me and my friends by its quality: the gameplay feels fresh, well balanced and highly dynamic, the presentation feels coherent and quite stylish, the menus are very easy and effective to navigate.

If you like your games to to be fun, direct, unique and with a little challenge, you should get this game.

Mega Coin Squad is a 2D Platformer with a difference. Instead of getting from point A to Point B you're set free in an arena full of coins. Your aim is to collect them and fill up the Piggy Bank in the middle of the level. Sounds simple but MCS can be extremely challenging and thankfully never frustrating.

Mega Coin Squad will keep you coin collecting for hours and with a multiplayer that can rival big-guns like Fowerfall, this is a complete package from a fantastic developer. Can't recommend it enough.

you've got two different ways to play. The first one is a single player campaign and the other one is a 2-4 players VS mode. The VS mode is a great way to have a laugh with friends. the controls and gameplay are solid. the sounds and graphics look in a good retro way.
My only problem was that the game is nice but it advertises itself (and its the steam system fault) having Local Co-op, when in reality it has the VS mode...
A very nice game overall.

The single player has some of the best gameplay I have ever seen! Multiplayer does not have the same replayability as single player for me. It would greatly benefit from some more modes, and the ability to play co-op. I have only tried 2-player though, and the arena feels a bit too big for 2-player, so it is probably more fun with 3 or 4 players. Don't get me wrong; despite these shortcomings, the multipayer is a lot of fun! It's just not quite as good as it could have been.

Pre-Release Review
Thanks to Adult Swim Games and Big Pixel Studios for giving me the chance to play, and review this game early.

Lots of coin grabbing, platforming, blasting fun. Quite a challenging game, with a retro arcade style feel, and an awesome sound track.

There are 5 characters to choose from, each having their own strengths and weaknesses. You get rewarded with diamonds each level in three ways:

(1) If you bank all your coins in one bankingi

(2) If you lose no lives(you get 3 each round)

(3) If you beat the clock.

I LPd this game live at www.twitch.tv/zombspawn, and the people in chat were really liking what they saw. Those people now want this game.

Of course, I am a noob, but I accept this challenging game, and will beat it. I plan on playing it through it's entirety in a future LP. My hand and eye coordination is not like it used to be, but having grown up on platformers, this is really an awesome one.

The intuitive controls are easy to master, and are best played with an Xbox 360 controller. I am not sure if other controller brands world, but I am guessing they will.

The overworld is similar to Mario games, where you travel from stage to stage.

My only wish is that there was an option for a certain ammount of continues. Losing in one round, can set you back to the begining round of that stage.

Nonetheless, I give this game a Mega Recommendtion, and encourage everyone to buy this game when it is released on August 15, 2014. :-)

I rate this game at a 4/5

Good game. Very fun. Good if you like collecting a lot of items. The only problem is that the difficulty spike is too much. You hit the 3rd world and it's just stupidly hard for no reason whatsoever. Not fun when you die over and over and over and over again.

If you're playing this game with a CONTROLLER, it's glorious and everything works just fine. If you're playing this game with a KEYBOARD, you will punch your monitor and rage quit after three hours.

Movement is arrow keys, attack is "Z", and shoot is "X". Non-rebindable. Are you kidding me?

All of the speed runs you see out there are people with controllers. The keyboard controlls simply take forever to register and by then you're dead. The game borders on the unplayable after level 3-1 and 4-4 is the end of the game.

For me: pass.
