Update V0.0.4

Hello everyone!

This is the latest patch for The Fifth Day. The primary focus for this update has been to rewrite the majority of the multiplayer end of the game in order to provide a more flexible and available multiplayer experience. Apart from fixing a variety of different multiplayer related bugs, I have added the ability to save your progression online, join freeplay matches in progress, and much more!

As I have stated earlier, I do intend to carry out this project to its final release. While I do apologize for the delay in releasing V0.0.4, please keep this in mind for future releases. That said, I will try to post updates on a more regular basis in the future.

As always, please continue posting your bug reports and suggestions in the designated forums, or send them directly to me at thefifthdaydev@gmail.com.

NOTE: Saved profiles for versions less than V0.0.3 are no longer supported. V0.0.3 profiles will still work, but a new game is recommended. You can find a full list of changes for this update below:

  • Added option to join sessions in progress for the freeplay online game mode.
  • Added option to save progress in online freeplay.
  • Added option to play online with unlimited days.
  • Added invert mouse control option.
  • Added notification when there are not enough players to award skill points in multiplayer.
  • Added option to ready up in multiplayer lobby.
  • Changed jump charge to display jump height in meters.
  • Replaced respawn option box from match creation with automatic respawns in online freeplay, and no respawning in competitive Loners or COOP.
  • Fixed bug that caused time to not sync properly online.
  • Fixed bug where npcs would levitate in multiplayer.
  • Fixed bug where container contents would not sync correctly in multiplayer.
  • Fixed bug that caused items to disappear when dropped in underground areas.
  • Fixed bug where dropped items would spawn behind the player or under the player's feet.
  • Fixed bug that caused player shading to appear too bright in underground areas.
  • Fixed bug which caused power sources to not sync correctly in multiplayer.
  • Fixed bug that caused doors to not open or close in multiplayer.
  • Fixed bug that removed inventory prior to constructing an object.
  • Fixed bug that caused players to not recieve alert of other players leaving the game.
  • Fixed bug where RFIDs were not synced correctly in multiplayer.
  • Improved construction system to allow placing multiple structures without having to continuously reopen the menu.
  • Improved movement for npcs in multiplayer.
  • Improved performance for syncing charging stations in multiplayer.
  • Improved performance with RFID tracking.
  • Tweaked image saturation for the players view.
  • Tweaked turret armor to be slightly weaker.
  • Tweaked swarm health to be slightly less.
The next update will be focused on a new physics based construction system, additional hacking options, new inventory, and continuing to resolve bugs and fixes.

Cheers!

-Touz

About This Game

The Fifth Day is a post-apocalyptic survival game set in the time after mankind's extinction to the machines that it created. Your role, as one of these machines, is to survive in the hostile world left behind by man. Explore, build, and hack your way to victory in competitive online survival, or face the wastes alone in offline freeplay mode.

Key Alpha Features

Explore a world left by man, where rogue AI roam the lands previously inhabited by their creators and masters.

  • Explore dense forests, radioactive wastes, and abandoned cities in hopes of finding resources and surviving to the next day in this desolate world.
  • Join competitive online play. Survive alone or with a partner through a series of five days to come out on top as the superior machines of the new world. Elimination by death brings the challenge to a whole new level as players are removed from the competition after being destroyed.
  • Win online matches to upgrade your character's skills and become the most feared and dangerous machine left behind in this new world.
  • Find resources and construct your own settlement. Build anything from small wooden encampments to get you through the night to reinforced bunkers with automated defenses to protect against intruding AI.
  • In order to power your mechanical being, you will need to find and manage power sources that each bring different advantages as well as costs to using them.
  • Hack enemy AI to follow your commands or support you in your ventures.
  • Face the wastes alone in single player freeplay where all you have is your own strength and willpower to survive in this post-apocalyptic world.

Development Roadmap

With early access development, community feedback is vital towards producing the best product possible. Since the start of pre-alpha development, feedback and suggestions from the community have greatly helped in shaping the game to the state it currently is. The game has come a long way since the initial Greenlight submission, but there are still lots of improvements and features that can be made.

As the game progresses through alpha, here are a few features planned for implementation:

  • More NPC Characters - New machine AIs with varying and unique behaviors that will greatly enhance the level game flow.
  • Expanded Hacking - Many more options and commands for hacking and programming NPCs are planned for development.
  • Expanded NPC A.I. - Better A.I. will really provide an interesting challenge to both online and offline play.
  • New Construction Options - There are quite a few new features for construction that have been planned as well as suggested by the community that will be exciting to implement.

  • New Environments - New levels, environments, and biomes are planned for addition in later versions of the game.
  • UI Enhancements - Various improvements and polishing for the user interface will make for more immersive play.
  • New Online Game Modes - More online game modes, including possible team based survival play.
  • Additional Skills - New skills and abilities to provide more customization options to your character.
  • More Power Source Types - Additional options such as thermal and hydrogen based power supplies will create more diverse play as each will introduce unique costs and benefits to using.
  • Expanded Sound Design - More SFX and atmospheric sound development will greatly add more immersive qualities to the world.

If you look at this game and think oh wow this might be worth a buy and you are concidering buying it DON'T. It was supposed to be updated monthly nope been 4 months and still nothing. 4 updates and then the DEveloper stoped updating so don't buy unless you want it to sit and collect cyber dust in your steam library.

When I first bought this game, it looked fun. I got in the game and I had maybe 5 fps, 10 if I was lucky and I have a laptop that can run DayZ at 40 fps on higher settings. The graphics are terrible, movement is slow and buggy, it looks like the camera is 2 ♥♥♥♥ing feet off the ground, loot spawns in the ground so you can't pick it up, the enemies are way overpowered (I was killed in one shot), and you can walk through walls. Since you're a cyborg, you need to charge you're batteries, makes sense right? You can't find a station to charge them anywhere, and when you do, you can't take them out of the charger, and when you finnaly do, you get stuck in the wall with no way out. The enemies are over-powered and can kill you in one shot and you can't even see them. You here a gunshot and then you drop to the ground and get booted back to the menu screen. When you can actually find items, you they're useless because a) they have no point, b) they serve a purpose that no one understands and c) if it's a weapon, it's useless because the enemies kill you in one shot. The border of the world is also an invisible wall that stops with pure white afterwards. Not even an attempt to give you an idea of what's behind like in DayZ where the add valleys you can actually go into (although there is nothing there).

Imagine one of those dancing inflatable things outside mechanic shops. Imagine what it would look like from their perspective; you know have an idea on what it looks like when you move in this game. You're head boobing doesn't go up and down, but side to side, you have to hold the spacebar for 30 seconds to jump an actual decent height, and you can only sprint for 3 seconds and them stand still for 3 minutes before being able to sprint for 3 more seconds. An open world game where you can only sprint for 3 seconds? May as well only have a dull dagger while you're pitted against 5 guys with machine guns in ArmA 3.

There hasn't been a well-needed update since October, 2014. There was supposed to be an update every month. I realise that it's only one person developing this game, however, it feels like this dev only took 15 minutes out of his day for one week to make this game before releasing it. If you're gonna release an game that's in pre-alpha, at least make it playable. US CUSOTMERS ARE NOT GAME TESTERS, THE DEV IS. Deus-Ex The Fall (which is a port from and iPhone game) is better than this, and it was 1/3 the price.

This game has been abandoned by the developer. It haD potential, but the Dev haD decided to not reach it. The Dev has made this game just to make a quick buck (or couple hundred). This game needs to be refunded to all who have bought. If you're even considering buying this game, forget about it unless you like wasting $16 when all you can only afford $20 Steam Cards at a time. Trying to complete this game would be like trying to polish a t.u.r.d; you can't polish one. This game is dead.

Overall:

-THIS GAME IS A PIECE OF T.U.R.D
-DON'T BUY IT

I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO DEMANDS A REFUND FOR BUYING A GAME THAT TRICKS THE CONSUMER FOR BUYING A GAME THAT LOOKS LIKE DAYZ BUT IS ACTAULLY THE WARZ IN DISGUISE (as an example).

DEAR PERSON READING THIS:

DON'T BUY THIS GAME. I CANNOT STRESS IT ENOUGH. DON'T BUY IT

I typically am optimistic, but...
The game itself is just not acceptable. It is not "finished." It shouldn't be in the Beta phase. It does NOT GET UPDATED. EVER. You'll find yourself a week later regretting buying this game.
THIS GAME IS NOT FINISHED, EVEN FOR THE TYPICAL STEAM STANDARD/

I can say this game is one of the worst I've played before.

Screenshots aren't promising. I don't find any best items in this game. All of them are just common and uncommon. Enemy Robot AI can even shoot me through walls!

At the momentan state of Fifth Day I wouldnt recommend buying it... 15 Euros for 20 min of playtime fun and after that boredom and glitches everywhere... ok its early access... but that doesnt give the 1 dev the right to just not bring out a patch for ~3 months.
Seems like hes just running away with the money and leaving behind another greenlight fail.
Sad... because the game had a lot of potential with the hacking thing and the being a robot thing :<

At this stage? NO, i wont recommend this game.
Its a good concept, but unacceptable slow updates, unable to keep promises to update it more frequently, Lack of commitment to talk to the community that accually paid for early access, makes me regret it ever since.

Wait till the game is released, if it ever will, thats the main question right now.

never ever buy this game!. the idea is great with the hacking and ai roaming but after 30 mins its boring.
i assume the game is dead because the developer dindt update it in the last 4 months. i know the developer is alone and its still an pre alpha but lately steam has been sloppy with the controlling there pre alpha products.
its an wonderful waste of 15 euro. i would almost report the game if i thought steam would actually do something about it. but since this game can still be bought i just want to warn people DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

Not 1 peice of this game is original, the buildings and AI and all textures are prefab copy and paste the you buy from the UNITY store.

the hand texture has obviously been taken from the hands of BF 2142 charactures.

come on guys, this doesnt seem right to me..... and steam let it gon on the store i mean what!!??!!...

i am certainly going to be asking for my money back because this smells like a cash and run "GAME".
NO, early access is not an escuse..... DO NOT buy this.
I know the textures and ai and everything else is not theirs because i played with it all in the unity engine about 2 years ago.....

STAY AWAY AND KEEP YOUR MONEY DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!.

if anyone upvotes this game then they either are friends with the "dev's" of have no clue.

Peice of Garbage.....

i have to say, early access is an equally hilarious and saddening time where developers seem to enjoy selling digital pet rocks.

for anyone who reads this, keep this in mind: the fifth day is probably the craziest example of vaporware ive yet to find on steam

be extremely cautious, and really consider Not buying early access games until Just before they come off early access

Right now, it's entertaining for about 30 minutes and that's it.

I haven't seen any progress by the developer recently and there are much better "survival" games out there as it stands now.

I'm afraid it's just another one of those "alpha" games that someone banged out to make a few bucks on and then forgot about. I will watch it though and hope it actually progresses.

SCAM ALERT - FORGED STRUCTURES - STILL IN ALPHA

I rate this game -10/10, because it isn't even a game. This is software that was roughly put together that looks just like Half-Life 2. Value - please sue these developers. The floating tower, which remarkedly looks like the big spire from HL2 just happens to have a big black ball at the top just like the big black ball at the top of the spire in HL2.

This is a total scam. This game is in early Alpha, and it didn't say that anywhere until after I had spent $15 and had access to the game. Many of the reviews from several months ago said Beta, but this game is still pre-Alpha. There is barely anything to do in the game, and you can still walk through objects... I game should not be on sale. If it is in Alpha then offer Free Access and ask for dontations.

Within just about 15 minutes of playing I was able to go from one end of the map to the other. There are no online servers for multiplayer. I am pretty sure all of the recommended reviews are forgeries.

STEAM - Please take this game off of the market and refund everyone. Selling games that are still in the earliest forms of development without consent of the buyer is illegal. As a programmer myself, this is completely unethical that the developers would advertise the game as such. If you want a budget to help build development then use Kickstarter or something...

They tried so hard and it looked like a good project.

Then the developer probably got pulled back to reality.

Or stopped caring.

A ♥♥♥♥ ton of potential put to nothing.

EDIT:

The developer is apparently "working hard" to produce another update, despite the latest update being pushed out in October. A lot of work being put over the month for some, what on paper and generally schematically are pretty simplistic upgrades. Including, but not limited to - physics for houses, UI overhaul, more guns and the ability to dismantle guns.

To what I say, pointless. All of this could've been done within a month, and the idea of him working alone and taking this large amount of time is discouraging and brings me to believe the developer is simply an amateur.

Regardless, I paid for it. Don't exactly enjoy the fact I paid for it when the project at time looked promising with a friendly developer, who ended up taking the money and pulling a Stomping Land.

If you don't have the time and resources to manage a project, it's best not to put it on Steam.

Developer has a very poorly communication he always says that this projekt is not dead and he worked hard on next update thats all, every time the same but nothing happens! The update frequency is to low thats the reason its smells like scam. Maybe it is Scam maybe not, but at the Moment its very frustrating and i personally dont believe its a good idead to fund this game. Don't get me wrong - with more updates the Game has some potencial but at the moment its very boring.

He really needs a blog or something that players can see whats going on ...

This game seemed attractive at first and I still admire some of its unique characteristics such as robot jumping and hacking, HOWEVER, I bought this game expecting it to one day be complete and as far as I can tell, this game is totally dead and is floating in the water now. "Go on, take the money and run" was the soundtrack the developer must have listened to on a loop non-stop while making this game.

The game principle:survival-post apocaliptic scenery and challenges.ok.now the dev (i know its only 1 person) said some time ago that would try to update about once a month or something as close.
BUT>>>for now it hasn't left version 0.0.4 since october and its december. If that's the final product i'd like a refund or some information about the game future.i don't recommend you reader to buy this game yet as it may not have a decent post alpha.it's better if you save your money and when you get sure you want the game you buy it.overral its a good game, but a bad development.
