What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is currently in Early Access Alpha, therefore bugs and other interruptions in game play may be encountered. It is advised that you purchase the game at this stage only if you are willing to actively support the future development of the project.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of the game will gradually increase over time as important checkpoints are reached in the development process. Based on the breadth of content added, the final version will most likely range from $20 - $25.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“It would be great to have deep involvement from the community in the future development of The Fifth Day. The community forums and early access reviews are good places where users can help by offering suggestions and ideas to further the development process.”

Update V0.0.6.01

Hello Everybody!

Here is the latest patch for The Fifth Day. I will continue to try and post smaller, but more periodic updates in order to keep the community engaged while I work on larger scale features in the background. Hopefully, this new method for pushing out updates will serve to benefit everyone. See a full list of changes for this version below:

  • Added item saving for power cells and capacitors placed at charging stations.
  • Added mountable blue pocket light.
  • Added rail mount for sights.
  • Added aluminum building material.
  • Added schematic drive vol. 04 that supports turret construction. NOTE: at this time the schematic drive supports limited constructions, but I will continue to add more items to the new drive in future updates.
  • Added automated rail gun turret.
  • Implemented turret maintenance which requires turrets to be powered by a power supply and store energy on a capacitor for proper operation. You will also need to reload turrets periodically, as they will run out of ammunition if fired for too long.
  • Improved construction placement algorithm to allow for easier placement of ceiling tiles.
  • Increased audio range on fired weapons.
  • Fixed bug in which charging stations would continue to build up charge even without a source of power.
  • Fixed bug that would cause too many containers to spawn in some areas.
Cheers,

-Touz

About This Game

The Fifth Day is a post-apocalyptic survival game set in the time after mankind's extinction to the machines that it created. Your role, as one of these machines, is to survive in the hostile world left behind by man. Explore, build, and hack your way to victory in competitive online survival, or face the wastes alone in offline freeplay mode.

Key Alpha Features

Explore a world left by man, where rogue AI roam the lands previously inhabited by their creators and masters.

  • Explore dense forests, radioactive wastes, and abandoned cities in hopes of finding resources and surviving to the next day in this desolate world.
  • Join competitive online play. Survive alone or with a partner through a series of five days to come out on top as the superior machines of the new world. Elimination by death brings the challenge to a whole new level as players are removed from the competition after being destroyed.
  • Win online matches to upgrade your character's skills and become the most feared and dangerous machine left behind in this new world.
  • Find resources and construct your own settlement. Build anything from small wooden encampments to get you through the night to reinforced bunkers with automated defenses to protect against intruding AI.
  • In order to power your mechanical being, you will need to find and manage power sources that each bring different advantages as well as costs to using them.
  • Hack enemy AI to follow your commands or support you in your ventures.
  • Face the wastes alone in single player freeplay where all you have is your own strength and willpower to survive in this post-apocalyptic world.

Development Roadmap

With early access development, community feedback is vital towards producing the best product possible. Since the start of pre-alpha development, feedback and suggestions from the community have greatly helped in shaping the game to the state it currently is. The game has come a long way since the initial Greenlight submission, but there are still lots of improvements and features that can be made.

As the game progresses through alpha, here are a few features planned for implementation:

  • More NPC Characters - New machine AIs with varying and unique behaviors that will greatly enhance the level game flow.
  • Expanded Hacking - Many more options and commands for hacking and programming NPCs are planned for development.
  • Expanded NPC A.I. - Better A.I. will really provide an interesting challenge to both online and offline play.
  • New Construction Options - There are quite a few new features for construction that have been planned as well as suggested by the community that will be exciting to implement.
  • Weather Effects - Dynamic weather system that will bring new challenges as well as visual improvements by creating a more atmospheric world.
  • New Environments - New levels, environments, and biomes are planned for addition in later versions of the game.
  • UI Enhancements - Various improvements and polishing for the user interface will make for more immersive play.
  • New Online Game Modes - More online game modes, including possible team based survival play.
  • Additional Skills - New skills and abilities to provide more customization options to your character.
  • More Power Source Types - Additional options such as thermal and hydrogen based power supplies will create more diverse play as each will introduce unique costs and benefits to using.

I really Love this game. There is only 3 Robots ingame so far but eversince the Latest Update the game has made a great game to play. Also there is only 1 Dev doing the updates and I respect that. I would probably say if you have patience and want to enjoy what this game has so far buy TFD but if you dont know what patience is dont buy till Full release.
The Physics is amazing 8/10

Even during it's alpha stage, The Fifth Day remains an extremely fun, unique, action packed game that also has an element of tech know-how that makes it all the better. Many have bashed this game because of the time between updates, but
keep in mind that there is only one developer working on the game and that the updates are always large and full of content.

The base building is highly enjoyable, the atmosphere is absolutely incredible (especially in urban areas!), the AI is very good, the loot system is amazing and the unique tools and weapons are phenomenal. And the hacking system is probablly my favorite part of the game. Any robot can be hacked and controlled, and it's especially satisfying to find a giant-♥♥♥ harvester and make it your own.

I highly reccomend this game.

I really hope this becomes a positive rated game yet again! I purchased the game when it first hit steam, played for a while then I uninstalled it. Not because I didn't like it, but because I ran out of things to do. Now with this new update of 0.0.6! It looks great! Redownloading it right now! I'm so glad the game is still being worked on! If you see any reviews saying that the creator has just ♥♥♥♥ed off, its completely untrue! This game is a definite thumbs up!

see i bought this with a friend......thinking it was gonna be really cool and fun..but no.. the machines can sometimes be really overpowered and when its open world to anyone they all just ♥♥♥♥ing hack. its fun for maybe a week or so when you get all the harvesters doing what you want and you built your fortifications. overall i kinda regret getting this game thinking it was gonna be fun. and even with a co op player with you its not even that fun. and there havent been any updates AT ALL. this game does have potential but now i do no recommend it

I understand why its called the fifth day. Thats the day the devoloper quit paying attention to this game.

EDIT: 3-21-15
I noticed that the devoloper is updating the game now. My opinion of the game stays the same, that is.. stay away from it. (unless your interested in yet another open world survival game stuck in the limbo of early-access.. *ahem* Dayz)

never ever buy this game!. the idea is great with the hacking and ai roaming but after 30 mins its boring.
i assume the game is dead because the developer dindt update it in the last 4 months. i know the developer is alone and its still an pre alpha but lately steam has been sloppy with the controlling there pre alpha products.
its an wonderful waste of 15 euro. i would almost report the game if i thought steam would actually do something about it. but since this game can still be bought i just want to warn people DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

-----------------------------------EDIT--------13-03-2015------------------------------------------------------------------

The game has sinse been updated. i havent played it yet but this does mean the game is not dead nor left behind. if the developer start with regular updates again it can turn out as a decent game, who knows. but for now i just want to edit this post sinse it would be unfair for the developer to leave bad reviews if he is actually working on it.

Not 1 peice of this game is original, the buildings and AI and all textures are prefab copy and paste the you buy from the UNITY store.

the hand texture has obviously been taken from the hands of BF 2142 charactures.

come on guys, this doesnt seem right to me..... and steam let it gon on the store i mean what!!??!!...

i am certainly going to be asking for my money back because this smells like a cash and run "GAME".
NO, early access is not an escuse..... DO NOT buy this.
I know the textures and ai and everything else is not theirs because i played with it all in the unity engine about 2 years ago.....

STAY AWAY AND KEEP YOUR MONEY DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!.

if anyone upvotes this game then they either are friends with the "dev's" of have no clue.

Peice of Garbage.....

SCAM ALERT - FORGED STRUCTURES - STILL IN ALPHA

I rate this game -10/10, because it isn't even a game. This is software that was roughly put together that looks just like Half-Life 2. Value - please sue these developers. The floating tower, which remarkedly looks like the big spire from HL2 just happens to have a big black ball at the top just like the big black ball at the top of the spire in HL2.

This is a total scam. This game is in early Alpha, and it didn't say that anywhere until after I had spent $15 and had access to the game. Many of the reviews from several months ago said Beta, but this game is still pre-Alpha. There is barely anything to do in the game, and you can still walk through objects... I game should not be on sale. If it is in Alpha then offer Free Access and ask for dontations.

Within just about 15 minutes of playing I was able to go from one end of the map to the other. There are no online servers for multiplayer. I am pretty sure all of the recommended reviews are forgeries.

STEAM - Please take this game off of the market and refund everyone. Selling games that are still in the earliest forms of development without consent of the buyer is illegal. As a programmer myself, this is completely unethical that the developers would advertise the game as such. If you want a budget to help build development then use Kickstarter or something...

Right now, it's entertaining for about 30 minutes and that's it.

I haven't seen any progress by the developer recently and there are much better "survival" games out there as it stands now.

I'm afraid it's just another one of those "alpha" games that someone banged out to make a few bucks on and then forgot about. I will watch it though and hope it actually progresses.

i have to say, early access is an equally hilarious and saddening time where developers seem to enjoy selling digital pet rocks.

for anyone who reads this, keep this in mind: the fifth day is probably the craziest example of vaporware ive yet to find on steam

be extremely cautious, and really consider Not buying early access games until Just before they come off early access

They tried so hard and it looked like a good project.

Then the developer probably got pulled back to reality.

Or stopped caring.

A ♥♥♥♥ ton of potential put to nothing.

EDIT:

The developer is apparently "working hard" to produce another update, despite the latest update being pushed out in October. A lot of work being put over the month for some, what on paper and generally schematically are pretty simplistic upgrades. Including, but not limited to - physics for houses, UI overhaul, more guns and the ability to dismantle guns.

To what I say, pointless. All of this could've been done within a month, and the idea of him working alone and taking this large amount of time is discouraging and brings me to believe the developer is simply an amateur.

Regardless, I paid for it. Don't exactly enjoy the fact I paid for it when the project at time looked promising with a friendly developer, who ended up taking the money and pulling a Stomping Land.

If you don't have the time and resources to manage a project, it's best not to put it on Steam.

Developer has a very poorly communication he always says that this projekt is not dead and he worked hard on next update thats all, every time the same but nothing happens! The update frequency is to low thats the reason its smells like scam. Maybe it is Scam maybe not, but at the Moment its very frustrating and i personally dont believe its a good idead to fund this game. Don't get me wrong - with more updates the Game has some potencial but at the moment its very boring.

He really needs a blog or something that players can see whats going on ...

This game seemed attractive at first and I still admire some of its unique characteristics such as robot jumping and hacking, HOWEVER, I bought this game expecting it to one day be complete and as far as I can tell, this game is totally dead and is floating in the water now. "Go on, take the money and run" was the soundtrack the developer must have listened to on a loop non-stop while making this game.

If you look at this game and think oh wow this might be worth a buy and you are concidering buying it DON'T. It was supposed to be updated monthly nope been 4 months and still nothing. 4 updates and then the DEveloper stoped updating so don't buy unless you want it to sit and collect cyber dust in your steam library.

Theres only one way to put it. GIVE uS A GOD DAMN REFUND

this game is terrible. there is no updates, and after an hour of playing it gets dreadfully boring. Theres only one map to play on and... for example~~ lets say one of the power things inside a nuclear reactor; it neither has a power peice, and a capacitor. most of the AI's are over powered and can shoot through walls. and if thats not enough for you theres always one dou**e bag in the game that kills everyone. theres only three harvesters in the game and usually its owned by one person. i thought it would be fun to create a base and live there forever. but there are no circuts in the whole map to even create a simple power station.

-buged like hell
-one map
-a little laggy
-the creator hates this game
-we hate this game
-i hate you if you said you like this game
-im probably not gonna get a refund because... the creator hates this game
-i hope the creator hates me. because i hate this game
-30 minutes of gameplay. going in circles to find stuff then dying and having to start over.

ENJOY!

It's got potential but do realize it is early access and an alpha. If you can't handle incomplete games with glitches and bugs -- look elsewhere.

Potential is nice - StarForge had mass potential and so have many other games. Some reach it, others don't so go in knowing the risks and judge it based upon it's current state for playability -and- your willingness to risk based upon that potential.

A list of things to look at:
- The skill-point system only works multi-player so you won't skill up in single player.

- Multiplayer you will end up against leveled up oponents and those levels have meaning and high value. Lots and lots of value to being leveled up here.

- Gathering requires hacking a harvester which then can take quite a while to gather things - you can't harvest anything.

- to get that hacking device you must find it.

- Robot NPC's drop nothing. You need to hunt through ruins to find weapons, ammo and other supplies.

- ammo is fairly scarce for the quantity of robots you'll bump into - again, no points for dealing with AI opponents. You're best bet is to run/aviod them.

- robots can pop up at any point near or far. They have been toned down to 2 shots to kill you but that's the best you'll get.

- AI robots cannot aim upwards. If you are above them, they can't hit you with their weapons -- if at range and above, they can and will hit you.

- AI robots can walk through walls that you build. So if you build, make the building tall and use stairs to get up there.

- You need to find power for your unit - not those silly solar cells but nuclear power. Without it, you won't be able to power up the capacitor to run, jump, etc. Extra capacitors are good but you shouldn't need too many of them.

- picking up anything early will stop your running. Anything except a nuclear power units. The solar power cells weigh a ton for the energy they give, which slows you down.

- many items are sunk in the ground and other items - you'll see loot markers but can't loot the item nor even know what it is.

Again, it's got potential but that potential has a long way to go to be achieved. IMO - worth supporting with funds but don't expect a highly clean and polished version at this time.

It runs well but it's not done yet.
