Rogue Legacyのように死亡毎にキャラリセットで、武器、特性、スキルが毎回変わり、
Freedom Fall

4/5 stars. Vertical Drop Heroes HD is like Rogue Legacy "lite"...in a very good way.
Most of my playtime with Vertical Drop Heroes HD has been with the GOG (DRM-free + original VDH) version. So my Steam stats don't reflect my total experience with this game.

PROS:
+Pick up and play accessiblity.
+Easy to learn, difficult to master.
+Fast arcadey action.
+Stages are randomly generated, assuring replay value.
+Unlocked abilities can be used with future characters, but characters can only carry 2 unlocked abilities with them at a time. This allows for very customizable gameplay, while keeping it challenging.
+Gamepad support: Xinput (360, or Logitech F series set to "X").
+Modest hardware requirements; most PCs built in the past 8 years should run VDH-HD.

CONS:
-No Linux support at the time of this review. But, given VDH-HD uses OpenGL, Linux users may be able to run it via Wine.
-No Direct Input (Logitech and generic) controller support...yet.

Vertical Drop Heroes HD is a fun little game, good for playing in short sessions. It's like a lite version of Rogue Legacy + Spelunky. It's a good introduction for anyone who wants to start playing roguelike-like games, because it's not so hard as others in this genre.

This was an impulse/curiosity purchase and ends up being a game I play most often...and I have a lot of games! It's fun, it is challenging, but not to the point of discouraging or losing enjoyment, and it has the feel of new-and-different on every playthrough. Levels are also varied and add to the freshness of each play. There is a load of variety in weaponry and special abilities, more special weapons and abilities you can work toward, and there is a rougue-like feel throughout. If you are thinking about getting this, it's a safe bet you'll have fun with it, and can either play for a short term or long. I've put a good amount of time into this game...I suppose I like having fun, then! All in all a very pleasant surprise.

Disposable Heroes HD: The Legend of Ferretbearer, and Pinecloak, and Skybane, etc.

VDH is like a crash test facility for fantasy themed champions. The player will spend their time trying to find the perfect hero to use as a protagonist (after generations of disappointments), able enough to complete the 10-level quest by which so many predecessors have inevitably failed.
Approaches to play-style can differ from chaotic to tactical; the path of progressive pacifism is possible, though most will prefer to engage with blade, bolt or blast (amongst other things).
It is simple to grasp, though many heroes will meet their doom early. Fortunately, no effort (death) goes unrewarded as resources (as well as abilities) stockpile, which means it is not nearly as frustrating as it should be.
Skill acquisition is indefinite, meaning earned abilities become inherent, allowing for a more expansive genotype, and thus is an inspiration to continue despite the permadeath nature of the game.
The only notable grievance comes within a poorly designed HUD, which can hinder co-op interactions, making for a slightly cramped feel to split screen mode.
'Falling to progress' is a significant enough change logistically to alter the feel of the game from similar titles, and works to enhance the fast paced direction that the game embodies.
VDH is fun without the demand of time input, and although it isn't one you would likely spend hours on, you'll come back to it often; the epitome of the casual indie.

Just to relive the nostalgia, I had to go back and play the original Vertical Drop Heroes on Kongregate. This truly does its predecessor justice, giving that fantastic risk-reward system and adding so much more to it. There are some aspects of the game that are easy to exploit (using Confusion on the Worm boss makes the fight ever-so easy, especially when I know recharges are around the corner), but even with that, the game provides a good challenge and requires you to put both your platforming skills and rogue-like decision making skills to the test. I especially like the addition of the pacifist system. Normally the choice of "To fight or not to fight" comes down to whether or not you can gain more than you lose, but in this case with many fights being winnable without much or any loss, a reward for avoiding the easy massacres is tempting and very worth it. The story itself is also simple but very befitting; so often do games tell of the great hero that overcame evil with the dozens of game-overs in between never even being acknowleged. Knowing that each failed attempt is simply another step in the story makes me even more anxious for the next attempt.

I look forward to seeing what comes out of Nerdook Productions next. Even if it's another remake of an old Flash game, I know it will be as good-- if not better than-- the original.

Below you'll find both a video and written impression on the game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn83ZgzEoE8
Vertical Drop Heroes take the traditional rogue-like/lite and turn it on it's side. Instead of scrolling left or right, your hero will be going straight down! This twist offers some interesting strategies, for example, planning where to drop down will be important. Since you can't go back up with out a special block, you could miss important loot if you went down the wrong path. The game does have a passive progression system, comparable to Rogue Legacy. You earn money to buy either in dungeon help, new abilities to randomly gain later, or save it up to earn permanent stat upgrades back at home base. It also plays like a standard Rogue-like/lite. Out side of the dropping down aspect, for any one who is experienced with this genre, this will feel very familiar (this can be taken as either a good or a bad, depending on what you're looking for).

The most addictive aspect of the game is certainly it's plethora of modular upgrades, giving players near endless combinations of characters and dungeons to crawl...er... fall through.

Though the game is quite fun and addictive, it's not with out it's flaws. The combat is very basic, simply mashing the attack near enemies or use 1 of the 2 specials your toon gets generated with. I'm also not really a huge fan of the visuals. This is a personal critique, as some will find it quite charming, but for me, it just doesn't float my boat.

Overall, The game doesn't do too much to evolve the genre, but what it does, it does it well. Vertical Drop Heroes is a fair price rogue-like/lite that's addictive and enjoyable.

Pros:
- Tons of unlocks
- Great use of modular toon creation
- Highly addictive
- Fair price

Cons:
- Not a fan of the visuals (Subjective)
- Combat overly basic

Vertical Drop Heroes HD is pretty neat, you have to make it from the top of a level to the bottom of a level and get out the exit, to make it to the next level ala Spelunky, with a lot more combat involved. Although a lot of it can be avoided and there are achievements for getting through levels without killing things so it's more a playstyle choice.

It is a roguelike so you get to unlock new classes and perks, you can purchase persistent upgrades with currency collected throughout each level/from killed npcs; also you can levelup your character (start each game at level 1) which increases numbers (damage, hit points).

Paid as much as I would for a decent cheese burger and it was a fun game to play for a few hours. Not terribly long, moderate replay value, and like Rogue Legacy, you spawn as a new hero with new abilities, but I didn't die enough to fully enjoy that mechanic.

7.5/10 would play a game simular.

So addictive. Very much like Rogue Legacy, though the upgrade system is a little different. Very replayable, very fun, hacky-slashy goodness in short levels with a boss on each floor. Great fun!

Let me tell you this: This 43MB small game is addicting as heck. I actually only started it up because I made a typo in the library searchbar. Then I went on and played it for a long time straight. Really great game with cute graphics and a memorable gameplay. One of the best rogue-style games out there!

Randomly generated levels that is fun as you die and progress at the same time.

It's 1 life per game though, so your characters are always different but you get stronger everytime you progress in your previous life.

Great little game to waste time when downloading something.

Way back when, I used to use Kongregate for my casual gamery fun, and the No.1 dude we all waited for to bring out a new game was Nerdook. That dude made the tightest games, every single one was super fun and interesting, and had a cool idea or mechanic behind it all. Imagine my surprise when I boot up this game I got as a freebee and see that familiar Nerdook logo pop up.

This game is a treat. Super simple gameplay that's hella accessable for anyone to just dive into, excellent single player AND multiplayer, sweet and smooth graphics and a brilliant soundtrack? Nerdook never lost his touch at all. Totally worth picking up, Vertical Drop Heroes is amazeballs for pick up and play fun.

The Roguelike is one of the most obscurely defined game genres, so I'm not sure this is technically one.
It's definitely a game I enjoy a lot though.

Nerdook Productions, generally better known for their in-browser flash games has delivered a solid game somewhat comparable to Rogue Legacy.
The player chooses one of three heroes with various traits, spells and weapons assigned randomly and sets off to conquer a dungeon that is about a dozen floors deep.

As the name implies though, each 'floor' is already quite deep, as the entire game is very much a descent through a random environment (seen from the side in colourful 2D graphics). The width of your screen is always the width of the level. You will fight your way down each floor to the bottom where a sealed portal lies. To unlock the seal you must defeat the boss or unlock it using 5 keys (which you also expend to open locked trapdoors earlier in the level and treasure chests) or, if the situation or an aspect of your character allow for it, destroy the wall surrounding the portal.

As you defeat enemies you gain experience and gold, the experience goes directly to your current character to empower him/her, the gold is primarily used between runs to get better base stats and upgrades as well as at merchants you encounter randomly on some floors that will sell you new weapons, traits and spells.

The whole thing wraps up nicely with a satisfying and challenging final boss.
One of the main things that sets this game apart from similar games (or specifically Rogue Legacy) is that not killing enemies is a viable alternative. Until you've killed your first enemy on each floor you'll be able to see and pick up pacifist sigils that are dotted around the level. Picking these up will grant experience and gold, same as killing enemies. It's not always a viable option (sometimes you'll really need to dispatch enemies in your path), but it's nice that there's an incentive to change things up every now and then and not kill everything in sight.

I've compared this game several times now to Rogue Legacy, which might not be entirely fair.
The question is, though, does this game offer anything that Rogue Legacy doesn't?
It does, and it's a game I recommend. However, if you've not yet played Rogue Legacy I couldn't recommend this more, so I would suggest playing that first.
