Video Link
This is it, my very first public presentation of my new game UNLOVED. So far, there isn’t too much fancy stuff, but I’ve never worked with the Unreal Engine 4 before and I’m trying to take every step slowly and carefully, to provide the best gameplay quality possible.

In case you didn't know, I'm also making Developer Commentary videos of Super Panda Adventures on My YouTube Channel.

In the upcoming weeks, I will alternate between making Developer Commentary videos of Super Panda Adventures and my new game, so if you think this type of video is interesting, please like the video and share it with your friends :D

Original Soundtrack

James Dean made a fantastic soundtrack for Super Panda Adventures and because I've heard so many times that people like the music of the game so much, we will make it available on Steam as well.

The soundtrack will be labeled DLC to make the purchase easier. After installation, you can find the soundtrack in your Steamapps game folder called "Super Panda Adventures Soundtrack"

100% of the revenue goes to James, so please show some love and support the artist if you like the soundtrack :D

You can check out his website over here: James Dean music

Love it. It reminds me of a NES game, a good one though, a classic. The controls feel smooth and tight, you jump nicely, movement is responsive. Gameplay is a combination of questing, platforming and fighting. You level up and spend skill points, get items, relics, power ups and unlock new skills. The story line is great. I love this game. The only problem is when is the next one coming out?

Great, fun platformer with a seriously hilarious and fun story, some of the most memorable characters you'll ever see rendered in 2D sprites, a cuddly and adorable protagonist, and a great, well-functioning combat system.

This game is criminally underappriciated, do yourself a favor and grab it. For four bucks it's a steal, I got it on sale for 3 which is even moreso. Very long game too, a good 15 - 20 hours of content if you're wanting to grab it all, which I had so much fun with it I did.

Have I mentioned it's cute as can be? Because it is. It's a nice break from grim dark gritty brown-em-up games that I've been playing as of late on steam. This game even has good life lessons in it for the kiddies, and no, I'm not actually kidding or being sarcastic there.

Great game for the youngesters too, I'd imagine, minus a little bit of off-color humor but nothing I wouldn't have been able to handle at a younger age myself.

10/10, one of the highest recommends I can give a game on here.

This game is fun!

A lot of backtracking though, if that isn't your cup of tea, then just give this game a pass.

Don't let the graphics deceive you, it is an intentional design decision that makes the game look like a children's crayon colouring book.

Beneath the surface is a surprisingly deep action platformer adventure game with lots to explore. It has a level-up system that lets you customize your hero as the game progresses. You can power up in any combination of defensive abilities, magical abilities and offensive abilities, encouraging multiple playthroughs and playstyles.

The only issue I have with this game that I have is that I wished that the second character that was cut out was actually unlockable, it would have added even more replay value. It's really not too late to release a patch to add her in IMO. Go buy this game!

Despite originally brushing off Super Panda Adventures as just another throwaway (and ugly) platformer when I purchased it in a bundle many months ago, once coming to Steam, I opted to boot it up and actually experience the trainwreck first hand, if only for the card drops. If there was ever a grander example of the wisdom, “never judge a book by its cover”, I’ve not found it (at least on Steam). A word to all: Ignore the obvious warning signs of a budget price and lackluster art; SPA is a surprising amount of fun, and offers a stupendous metroidvania adventure, despite a few small flaws along the way.

What surprised me most about SPA wasn’t the notably tight controls nor the exceptionally entertaining notion of controlling a panda with a katana. No, what surprised me was the sheer size of the level layouts, and the many paths therein. Levels are typically huge, and often reach deep into the ground and high into the clouds. While there are plenty of collectibles and upgrades waiting to be discovered, the emphasis on exploration and pathfinding is based more on your abilities and equipment as you find them, rather than on hidden paths or destructible walls. Meaning, the passage to a new upgrade is usually only blocked by a wall higher than your current jump, or a door requiring a key that you can’t reach for a similar reason. Repeat exploration is encouraged, and most levels feature something new to do after each new ability is earned.

Combat is also surprisingly prevalent and entertaining, but then, the prospect of a sword wielding panda is an entertainment in its own right. SPA features a leveling system, powered by hidden caches of points and killing enemies alike. Typical upgrades are standard fare, but by finding special orbs in each level, your armor and weapons can be upgraded, and changed in appearance as a result. Although I never became bored with the combat, exploring and re-exploring the same levels over again could have felt more tedious without the consistent rewards of combat or in seeking out hidden caches.

Not all is well, however, and while minor, there are several notable flaws that hamper the experience. Boss encounters typically carry a massive disparity in difficulty from the rest of the adventuring, due to enormous health bars and attacks equally both powerful and annoyingly difficult to avoid. The large levels, while a joy to run around in and explore, have no map system to fall back on, and so path finding relies solely on memory. When looking for each and every collectible and upgrade, that fact becomes irritating quickly, especially on the more vertical levels. Worse, there is no “percentage complete” function, and so those missing odds and ends could literally be hidden in any level, and there’d be no solid clue as to which.

Regardless of listed faults, SPA is an absolute delight. While the unenthusiastic art design would normally all but promise a similar quality of gameplay, SPA provides a metroidvania styled adventure similar to what you would expect of a higher priced title. Given the quality, this game could have been sold at a standard $10 price point. For a standard asking rate of only $4, it’s an absolute steal.

I bought the game on a whim, mainly because it looks fun and was at a price I could not pass up. At first I was taken a back by the art style. It looked a little off to me. But I looked past it and started playing. The game controls and plays well. I never felt cheated by the controls. This game also has some amazing depth to it. It has different power up elements, funny diolog, and a unique gameplay style all its own. I'm only an hour in but it has been fun.

The game might not look that pretty on the first look, but it does capture you with its charm and depth if you spend some time with it. It's MetroVania done right with loads of unlockables that will make you revisit levels over and over again without it becoming tedious. The story is cheesy, but the characters really come to life through the dialogs. Some of the conversations made me laugh quite hard even. The soundtrack might not be for everybody, but I really enjoyed it. The levels are huge and really well designed. There's a lot to explore and the game rewards you for doing it.

It's a lot of fun for very small money :)

Please ignore my low Steam game time. I played the Desura version.

Super Panda Adventures is one of my favorite games of 2013. The combat is varied without becoming overly complex (and the native support feels quite good on my Xbox 360 controller). There's plenty to collect and feel empowered. The story is light and goofy.

Modern metroidvania standards apply and then some. Those with an aversion to open worlds should be happy that the quests provide decent direction. Meanwhile, backtracking is handled well with the ability to choose alternative areas until new mobility upgrades are found. There's generally something new to find once upgraded even if it's only a stash of experience pickups. Much of the content is optional.

One cardinal sin involves how checkpoints are placed before the scripted dialogue of boss battles. The text can be sped up with button mashing, but it still increases frustration after the umpteenth death. Autosaving would not be desired due to the game's single save slot per session. However, the ability to immediately get back into the fight would have been nice.

Towards the end, I would have also appreciated knowing the maximum level was locked at 50 and having a list of upgrade orbs I'd collected. However, that's mostly the completionist in me talking as I mourn how video has replaced text walkthroughs.

Likes:

- Leveling. Many skills to level up including increase damage/health/crit, mana regeneration, and others; and they actually make you feel powerful! Equipments like sword, armor, shuriken, and shield can be leveled up too by spending orbs.
- Exploration. Parts of the early maps can only be accessed once certain skills/items are unlocked. Rewards include orbs, XP, and items.
- Gameplay. Great controls. Two standard attacks: one short range (sword), another long range (shuriken). Magic: up to 3 different spells to unlock.
- Characters. Some amusing characters (ninja cat, wizard rabbit, human, aliens) with funny dialogues. The enemies are varied too (birds, robots, slimes).
- Cool Soundtrack. Really fits in with the game.

Dislikes:

- Boss battles. They are okay.
- No minimap. It's frustrating to explore the world and get lost.
- Equipments. Can be leveled up, but there aren't other types of weapons/armors/shields to wear.

Verdict: There aren't many complaints except some minor ones (which can be forgiven since the game is only $3.99). A very enjoyful game especially for the price! ★★★★☆

Finally a fair price on a fun little platformer. My unversal generic control works brilliantly, and the controls have been perfect thus far. This game has kept me entertained, the plot is just enough and there is an adventurous feel. There are enough little secrets on the side to add a puzzle aspect without being overwhelming. I usually have a problem when games seem to give me "the runaround" but things move rather quickly in this game. My main complaint so far is that the combat is a little too easy and one dimensional. I would almost prefer jumping on turtle heads rather than wielding a sword.

This game is amazing. Cute art style, funny dialog, fun story, great soundtrack and the gameplay is a ton of fun.

Super Panda Adventures is an action platformer. You play as a Panda called Fu... bad guys appear kidnap a princess and its your job to rescue her... sound pretty cliche right. And it is, but the story is told in such a way it felt fresh.. at least for me it did! The game plays as a beat em up with various quest giving NPC around the world. Quest that (AFAIK) can be done in any order.
Its mostly fetching quest which have you go back and forward between levels unlocking new areas to explore within the levels. The levels are well designed and have some tricky(for me :P) to find areas in them.
You can gather XP from slain enemies or find them around the world. When you level up you get 2 point to spend on a variety of skills. Also you unlock skills and helpful items and upgrade your gear.
Its plays great with controller or keyboard. Platforming feels great... combat feels amazing...yeah.. I am trying to come up with something negative to say about this game... maybe its a bit too easy for some... but that is frankly the only thing i could think off

This game has been in multiple greenlight bundles.. but that does not do this game justice. Honestly Steam should be proud to have something like this in their store!
I haven't complete the game yet(I will!!) and from what i played the asking price is well worth it! You'll get so much content for 4 usd/eur. This game is a must own and it deserves your attention. For the bargain full price you can't go wrong, let alone when it on sale. There is no excuse not to give this a try! 10/10

EDIT: Just finished the game. And i CANNOT recommend this game enough. Just a small note apparently this game has difficulty settings... i started playing and just kept hitting A ( on a controller) and did not pay much attention (was not expecting much... boy was i wrong). I was playing on normal, there are 2 higher the difficulties. So forget the "maybe its a bit too easy for some" bit. And the bosses are not that easy anyway

I've been waiting for this game to get on Steam for such a long long time. Spent hours on DRM free version enjoying every single moment and you know what? I'd gladly do it again.

This game has everything: exploration, secrets, upgrades, variety of weapons and spells, enemies, bosses, great music. It's a gem reminding you of the era when graphics were not the main option of the game, but the game itself.

I won't be telling you any basics of playing or something about the plot. It's all your's to discover. Just grab it. $2.51 is a killer price for such a good game. 9/10

Super Panda Adventures is a polished RPG/adventure platforming game that I really enjoyed playing through (when it was nonDRM). The combat/leveling system is fun and the game is challenging at times. There is some replayability if you want to get everything maxed and the game is about 6-10 hours long depending how much you attack monsters (took me 10h). The music is pretty good as well - If you like platformers and RPGs, this is a must have!

10/10, the gameplay is just that fun and unique (in setting)

Note: All my game time is from afking cards as I completed it already.

This game is a very cute throwback platformer that reminded me of Cave story. Solid level design, B-movie story, fun player upgrades, and a great price point.

The music and graphics were perfect for the kind of mood the game was trying to set, and the fact that my Logitech controller worked without a problem was a great bonus. I *HATE* having to use x360ce to use my controller in modern games.

If you're ever rained in and want a fun little platformer to pass a day (took me 7-8 hours to beat it, should take normal people somewhere around 4-6), buy this game!

Fun combat platformer with a good soundtrack, a nice pseudo 8-bit art style, and the tight controls you need for a game like this.

It also has some RPG elements in that you have quests to complete, which mainly come down to 'go to Area A and get item X' or 'talk to person Q'. You gain experience by picking up items or killing enemies, which can be used to enhance your perks.

I am really enjoying my time with this game. Definitely worth picking up!
