Cosa dicono gli sviluppatori:

Perché l'accesso è anticipato?

“Sky Nations has been iterative game from it's initial release on other platforms. Developed by lone developer Ben Johnson it has been hugely beneficial to have community input and experiment with mechanics and change them based on feedback. Early Access fits this perfectly and will help to make Sky Nations a better game when it releases it's complete state!”

Per quanto tempo rimarrà in accesso anticipato questo gioco?

“Sky Nations will hopefully be leaving Early Access in Q4 2014 as a more completed and rounded experience.”

Quali saranno le differenze fra la versione completa e quella ad accesso anticipato?

“The full version will be a combination of all the updates during Early Access.

Features planned for the finished game are:
  • Capturable Sectors for Nations. Which can defend your ships and creations.
  • More player and ship weapons of various different types.
  • More island types with creatures and mechanics based around them.
  • Manufacturable ships and other perks for Nations.
  • Music that adapts to what is happening to the player.
  • A sound overhaul to many of the current placeholder sound effects.
  • Further access to server functionality in the Modding API.

Qual è lo stato attuale della versione in accesso anticipato?

“Sky Nations has a lot of the base mechanics available to play that will make up the finished game. However this is still a game in development. There is still quite a lot of content based on these mechanics to come and a lot of community driven bug testing too reach a stable build and balanced builds.”

Il prezzo del gioco varierà durante e dopo l'accesso anticipato?

“Sky Nations will likely rise in price when the game is more complete and has more content, however those who purchase the game now will receive these updates for free up to the game's completion.”

Come pensate di coinvolgere la Comunità durante il processo di sviluppo?

“Since Sky Nations receives iterative updates every couple of weeks community feedback is super important to both balancing and improving the game. Since it's first public release the community has helped find bugs and suggest features and changes that have improved the game significantly.”

Update 0.93 Switches, Crafting, Brakes and more!

Hey guys, Update 0.93 is finally up and it brings a lot of quality of life changes I've been wanting to add into Sky Nations for quite some time as well as some new stuff!

Airbrakes have been added to ships to allow for much finer air control while braking. The braking without Airbrakes essentially cancels your thrust but does not cancel your velocity as many of you may have noticed, so your ships tend to coast a bit after braking. Airbrakes cancel your velocity via air resistance allowing you to come to a complete stop much quicker. They do however have a couple of caveats, there cannot be blocks in front or behind them as it blocks any air resistance in the first place. You can however have other Airbrakes in front or behind them.

There are two new blocks that should make running very large ships significantly easier in this update. These are switches for lasers and generators. Essentially what these allow you to do is turn all of the given block on or off at once by simply hitting the big button the switch. If your lasers or generators are in a mixed state, for example some are on and some are off it will go with the majority status. So having 5 generators on and 2 off. It will see 5 of them are on and switch them all to off. This allows a much simpler and less frustrating job of managing them on your ships and also allows you to embed them in places you don't have to be able to reach. I also hope to add more switches for similar tasks like Thrusters in the future.

Crafting has also been changed a little to allow you to batch craft large numbers of items much easier without having to worry about the interface shifting as your materials change. Simply clicking on a item in the Crafting menu will now bring up a window allowing you to specify the amount you'd like to craft. Saving a countless clicking! If you'd like to craft a single item like you could before just hold shift and click the item. When entering numbers into the Crafting popup it will adjust them if they are not a multiple of the item you are making. For example logs create 3 planks. Trying to craft 4 planks would lose you two potential planks from a log so the input will adjust it down to 3 to save you doing the maths.

An early detection system has been added for both claimed and non claimed areas called the "Detector Dish". There is still some work I'd like to do it on but the basic functionality is there. You can place it down in a system and right click it, this will align it to your Nation. Any moving ships in the System will be detected by it and it will alert your Nation members of it. This is useful as an early warning system and a intruder detection system for those remote areas you can't always have people at.

The temporary "R" values next to System names on the Map have been removed and replaced with a appropriate block to display them called a "Prospector". When turned on it displays the Resource Value of the System you are currently in.

One of the larger changes that won't hugely be apparent is that we've moved to using a different Networking library. The networking library is basically what handles the messages between the game server and client, previously I'd had issues with a bug in the one we'd used as it would resend a lot of data when it didn't need to and cause large blocks of data such as loading a system as you enter it to be inherently slow for players with less than perfect internet connections. This is solved with the new library and many people with slower than average internet connections(such as myself!) should see zones loading much faster and overall more responsiveness to many actions in-game that require the server to ok them.

As always there's a whole host of other changes. Check them out below in the change log.

How to update
The client will be automatically updated by Steam or the Sky Nations launcher. The server files will be available shortly once I've cleaned up any bugs that pop up on the Community Servers.

Change Log
  • Added Airbrakes for ships.
  • Added Generator Switch.
  • Added Laser Switch.
  • Added Prospector block which identifies Resource Values of systems.
  • Added Detector Dish that detects non-aligned moving ships in the zone and reports it back to all live members in the Nation.
  • Ported to new network library to decrease loading time of zones significantly for players as well as overall use less bandwidth due to a bug in old network library.
  • Changed Crafting panel to have an enterable number for the amount you would like to craft. To craft 1 of an item without the amount window simply hold shift while clicking it.
  • Splash should be more accurate and wider for Missiles.
  • Increased missile block damage by 20.
  • Missiles now use Continuous Collision Detection(CCD) to increase accuracy at high speeds.
  • Changed Full Screen mode to be Borderless Window mode instead which is much improved and allows better tabbing while the game is full screen without unloading content.
  • Changed max chat log line count from 70 to 500.
  • Updated Escape Drive description to match its purpose.
  • Optimized render culling of small ships.
  • Corrupted or otherwise troublesome ship files are automatically moved by the server to “Crash Logs [Version]/Corrupted Ships/” folder to prevent them causing further errors along with a note for their loading error for debugging.
  • Night is now x3 brighter.
  • Changed Atomic Waste value to 4 from 20.
  • Fixed a crash caused by incorrect emblem data.
  • Fixed a rendering bug with screenspace object shaders.
  • Fixed a potential server crash.
  • Fixed a server crash caused by removing some objects in certain circumstances that no longer exist.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause Trophies to disappear upon jumping systems.
  • Fixed a server crash caused by Merchant Cat falling off his ship as he jumps.
  • Fixed a crash caused by empty chunks generating physics representations(likely caused by a corrupt chunk).
  • Fixed doors only placing the bottom block if a player exists in the space where the top block should be.
  • Potentially fixed a bug that would cause players to be teleported to odd locations when attempting to pilot a freshly unclamped ship for the first time.
  • Fixed Nation Beacons sometimes resetting to the wrong position on system reloads due to the timing of collisioeneration.
  • Fixed a crash caused by a timing issue when generating a mesh.

0.92 Patch Notes

Patch Notes for 0.92 posted seperately as they didn't quite fit in one news post. Original news post found here.

  • Added Schematics which are special type of buildings that perform tasks.
  • Added Syphon Refinery(created from Schematics). This structure takes syphon from Syphon Miners transported with Syphon Containers and converts it to the resources relevant to the biome it came from.
  • Added Schematic Tab in the in-game knowledge base(press B) where you can view any Schematic with the resources it requires and a 3D model.
  • Added Syphon Miners(created from Schematics) which will mine from the surface of the earth bringing you materials relevant to the biome it’s used in. The speed is relevant to the Resource Value of the System. Systems further away from Capital Gates will reap more.
  • Added Syphon Container(created from Schematics) which is used to transport material made by Mining Syphons.
  • Added Schematic Projector which projects a hologram of the schematic you’d like to build so you can construct it easily.
  • All Systems now have a resource value which affects the yield for Mining Syphons. Systems further from capital gates have the best possible yield.
  • Added black background for System Names on the map.
  • The Systems map now correctly centers on the player when opens.
  • When a System is hovered over in the System Map it will display over any overlapping system names.
  • Reset Blocks now have a 5 minute timer to prevent exploits and mitigate raft spam.
  • Gravity Springs will now hold the ship in place when fired.
  • Hard Glass damage by bullets has been reduced by 75%.
  • Reduced Table health to 25.
  • Demo players on Community Servers can no longer be promoted to Nation leaders.
  • Gravity Storms now require a threshold of ships to be able to create ore deposits.
  • Initially loading the game in a play session should be much faster now for very large chunk caches.
  • Nerfed Missile Pod, it now only fires 1 missile at a time. Make sure you double down on defenses.
  • Missile’s can now be detonated by bullets and other explosions.
  • Special Blocks(blocks that save data) when corrupted will no longer remove the whole chunk but delete the offending block and log it.
  • Added soft sound effect for placing blocks.
  • Energy Wells are now more expensive to craft.
  • Debugging or unavailable blocks are now hidden in the Item Database to be less confusing to players.
  • Temporarily System resource values are shown on the map. As “R: 10”.

  • Fixed Nation Beacons not being positioned correctly on system reload in some cases.
  • Fixed a server crash caused by chunks undocking from each other in certain situations.
  • FFixed a server crash caused by ships jumping in certain situations with unloaded docked ships.
  • Fixed ray cast bug that would make new land chunks after the first block impossible or very hard to place new blocks on or interact with existing blocks.
  • Fixed the mesh part of the trophies not always being removed.
  • Fixed an exploit with Mounted Repeaters.
  • Fixed an economy exploit through crafting value inflation.
  • Fixed max claim count not working in some cases.
  • Fixed lighting and rendering for Item Kit items in equipment and actor previews.
  • Fixed global lighting for Item Kit items.
  • Fixed Decorative Glass types not being hurt by bullet damage like other Glass materials.
  • Fixed a potential server crash caused by Reclaim machines.
  • Fixed a crash related to physics joints on docked ships that no longer exist.
  • Fixed a crash related to physics groups not existing.
  • Fixed splash damage hurting players through walls in some cases. Most notable with Missile defenses.
  • Fixed crash caused by telescope in some cases.

Sky Nations Multiplayer Demo

If you'd like to try being a bandit of the Sky before purchasing Sky Nations a demo is now available on Steam. You can even play with your friends in multiplayer! Check it out here.

Riguardo questo gioco

Set in a world where the planets surface is no longer habitable. Sky Nations takes place above the clouds where large airships are the only means of travel. Join up with your friends and build a ship to explore and do battle with players you meet a long the way or the various creatures inhabiting the skies.

Sky Nations is centred around multiplayer cooperative and versus play in a voxel sandbox. Using blocks players can build, destroy and take with harsh but fair mechanics based around freedom for player vs player. There aren't invisible barriers stopping you from destroying blocks or rules against attacking other players. The skies are tough and you need to be tough to survive them!

  • Build ships - As a completely multiplayer orientated experience you are free to roam, interact with and build on the ship as it’s piloted by another player. As well as design custom ships for custom jobs such as mining.
  • Crafting - Create unique items for your ship such as radars, generators and cannons!
  • PVP - Whether it's with your ships using cannons, lasers and more or with shotguns as invade enemy bases and form boarding parties players are free to attack or group up with others they may encounter in their travels.
  • Create Nations - Organize your friends to dominate the map and hold key resource points.
  • Modding Support - Textures can be reskinned and the game server comes with a Mod API allowing you to write custom scripts in C#. Which will be expanded with updates.
  • Buildable Wearable Items - Craft items out of blocks to wear and stand out of from other players and use as bartering items.
  • Persistent Player Servers - Host your own servers or join other players servers with ease. Each a unique world generated the first time it is started.

Please Note: Sky Nations is Early Access and still in development. That means that not all the content is finished and many things are place holders or subject to change. There will be bugs! However through the community of players we can get these bugs found and fixed as well as use your suggestions to help balance and improve the game.

Fun game. Movement and interaction is kind of bad but the game play itself is pretty fun and although I see it as a smaller less intense version of Star Citizen, it is quite enjoyable. Currently still in Early Access, it gets a 7/10.

The dev actually updates it a lot and cares about it, which IMO is a huge bonus.

Sky Nations is a work in progress with an active developer. If you enjoy building things both stationary and to fly, being a pirate, gathering resources, or hunting bosses with the MrBenjammin (the dev) then give this a chance to make your own decision about it.

Since it is alpha new content and mechanics are always being added, revised or even removed. So that is something to consider. The developer is always trying to make the game a better overall experience based on the input from you the players and he is very active in-game and on the discussions.

The game is fun. You mine stuff (sometimes with laser weapons) and use them to build your ships.

You can set up a nation for your friends, keep a capitol where only your nation members can go. You can wage a ship war with other nations.

I really like the whole "build ship fly around be a pirate" aspect.

Its not without its problems though. Getting your first start in the game can be a bit troublesome if you dont read the hints. The game has a built in wiki to mitigate some of that though. The game can be a bit buggy sometimes, but its an early alpha so that is to be expected.

I'd say this game is definitely worth it. Its a good game and i play it frequently.

This game intrigued me since day 1, I've kept a close eye on it and even got talking to the Dev a lot. It has regular updates and bug fixes. The direction this game is going in is safe to say a very exciting direction. It's nice to see an Early access game where the dev puts genuine effort into the future of their game rather than their pocket. Follow MrBenjammin to get updates for his ideas and updates.

Great game, hours of fun. So much you can do. There is a bit of a problem with the number of people but don't judge based on this. Spread the word - Sky Nations is here to stay.

The developer is easy to talk to and often quite active. Easily one of my favourite Early Access games.

Sky Nations is a diamond in the rough. It's not a hugely popular game, but I find I can't stay away from it. It combines all the fun of standard voxel games with the ability to explore the world with your own custom designed ships.

When I first joined there wasn't much here. At the time, what a lot of the negative reviews said were true: The game had plenty of flaws. But it was, and still is, in Early Access, and it's still moving towards its full release. I'm proud to say that I am a part of its community that it is steering the game in its current direction.

Sky Nations, like many voxel games, it most likely a success because of its huge degree of freedom. It is the canvas on which a pilot's creativity comes to life. Do want to build a small sleek ship? Or do you want to be like me, and design a ship that is literally a moving house?

Of course, you don't need to be a creative genius to have fun in the game. The game has always been advertised with a piracy aspect, and its something that is immensely thrilling. The ability to board a ship, dispose of its occupants, and fly away with your new prize is incredibly satisfying.

The lead developer, Mr Benjammin, has recently implemented a Capitols system. No longer do you need to worry about logging off and having your ship stolen. Just park it in your capitol and it'll be there when you come back. Then you can resume your pirate adventures in your shiny ship.

But what fun is flying in a ship by yourself? Join a nation (or make your own) and fly the skies as an unstoppable pirate fleet! Friendship and teamwork are a huge part of what keeps this game interesting for me, and the frequent updates ensure that the game stays fresh.

So, in conclusion:

+Wide degree of freedom
+Loads of fun with friends and enemies alike
+Arrr, pirates!
+A small but loyal community that continues to grow
+One of the most friendly and responsive developers I've ever met
+Great moderator team
+It's not finished yet
-It's not finished yet
-Needs more cats

GGG for life!

Holy hell, talk about a hidden gem.

There's just some allure to this game, the vast amount of things you can do, even at this stage in development, is astonishing. Create a ship made of iron, build up a nation from nothing, maybe recruit a friend.

With the vast amount of voxel games that have popped up in the last year or two, this one feels the most distinct to me. Unfortunately, it also feels like the most unappreciated one as well. Yes, it does need some polishing regarding aesthetics and bugs, but that isn't really important at this stage, considering it's early access. Also, I should mention, while other Early access games are rated positive for their potential (which much of the time goes unfulfilled) I'm rating this one for what it is now, that being a fantastic game.

Most of the negative reviews for this game are regarding the game population. On all servers combined, there aren't many players, true. But seriously, that's the worst excuse I've heard not to buy this game. First of all, if you actually stuck with the game, hey, you know what? You'd increase the playerbase! These people are actually creating their own problem with the game. Second, to enjoy this game, you don't really need to have many people on. Trust me, even if there is a low playerbase, you will run into other people. And they'll likely be pirates, so try to keep your shotgun handy at all times.

Lastly, the Dev is awesome. He adds new content fairly often, chats with people in-game, and listens to community suggestions. Really friendly and chill dude. So basically, buy this game if you like building, pirating, shotguns, lasers, (did I mention that there are lasers?) and giant floating machine spheres left by the ancients. Yup.

Oh, and there's exploding jellyfish.

I have no idea where the negative reviews came from because with my experience in this game I found the nicest and most helpful community I have found in a long time. As for the gameplay it is awesome, you can run or join any server and meet other people, the flying aspect is flawless and the overall simmilaritys to minecraft are obvious but I find this game superior as it has more features and a larger variets of things to do. other than a little bit of server lag which only happened infreaquently I have not had any issues with this game.

I would reccomend this game to anyone who liked minecraft in its earlyer states or anyone who enjoys sandbox games. Join a nation and have fun!

This is an amazing game with lots of potential. The way the devs have built this already makes it a great game to play at version 0.89. Since this is only a test build, I am sure that they will be adding more things that will make this game even better.

The thing i like about this game the most isn't the community (which is small but amazing), isn't the ships (which are cool and scary at the same time, depending on which end of the cannon you're looking down), isn't the constant updates and very involved admin (enough said), but the true randomness that comes from even a small group of players creativity. Sometimes, I'll log on, ignore all the things that need to be done to my nation, and I'll just go out and explore. Sky Nations is an ever-changing world, both in-game and update-wise, so there's always something new to see.

That being said, the biggest draw to the game for me is the constant progression. It's a small game, so it's not difficult to start out, but there's a very long way to go before you can really become a powerful force on a server. Despite that, almost every single time I play, i feel like I'm achieving something new. Even the smallest thing, like building a public bathroom in my capital, will satisfy me. In this way, Sky Nations keeps on pulling me back in.

There are flaws. Plenty of them. It feels like I discover a new bug every 2 weeks. But the dev is always there to help smooth things through, and if not him, one of the myriad of compassionate admins.
A very important thing to remember is that Sky Nations is not only in early-access, but is also being made by one guy. It's obviously not going to be very polished. But despite that, I still prefer playing Sky Nations to a lot of other games in my (admittedly not extensive) library. That's because what Sky Nations has right now is already better than half the games on steam right now.

Voxel games and first person games are absolutely not my forte. I'm sure that's the case for many of the people considering buying this game. But I see absolutely no reason for someone on the fence about buying this to not get it. It's got great community, a great dev, very good gameplay, it's even better with friends, and it's got flying cats.

sky nations is basically a cross between guns of icarus and minecraft. i have always wanted to fly in minecraft, and this game is that hope in a bottle. Sky Nations is still in alpha, so bugs are expected, but that means the players have direct input on the development. like alpha and beta minecraft. hope you found this helpful to you

If you plan on spending many hours building up a base/nation and becoming a dominate player, I advise you not to purchase/download this game. I have been playing this game for about a month now on one of its official servers and have been severely let down. Don't get me wrong, it is a fun game, but when you put in tons of hours developing your base and taking down other nations, only to be targeted by the developers/server people because you took out a nation of one of their friends.

I am usually a quiet player who won't chat much while building for hours on end. Our nation started with about 3 members and now has about 8, with only 3 of us who play on a daily basis. The others log on occasionally every few days or so. The main nation on the server was named Endless Souls who was the server powerhouse. It was obvious from the global chat that the developer and server admins were very friendly with the members of Endless Souls. We spent many hours building up our defenses so our nation could not be overrun.

The only way for a nation to be lost is to have your nation beacon taken out. In order to prevent this, you build around it to either straight up protect it or to disguise it into the surrounding terrain to make it difficult it find.

Not long after our nations defenses were built up, we got attacked for about 3 days straight by the Endless Souls. They were never able to get through our defenses. With our nation beacon built into the terrain, the few ships that were able to get past our initial defenses were unsure of where to go to take out our nation beacon. The day after their last massive attempted invasion, I witnessed the games official server admin, "siroro", tell members of the Endless Souls nation where our nation beacon was located. He did this in global chat.

During that attempted massive invasion, I witnessed one member of the Endless Souls jump into our area with a ship made to look like a ♥♥♥♥♥. That member then proceeding to state in global chat, something to the extent, "i just rammed Aracdia in the a**."

Trash talk has been present in this game since the very first day I played it. I have witnessed many players trash talk on the global chat on a daily basis. Never once did I see anyone be punished for it, until we started to become the server's powerhouse nation. This is when I started to become more vocal in the global chats, questioning why some people were being punished for things that other players had been doing since the first day I started playing. The problem was, that those people who were still trash talking and not being punished for it were friends of the developer and server admins. I remind you that this was all taking place on one of the games official servers.

Another feature in this game, is the ability to leave signs. From the very first day, I have seen profanity laced signs on various maps throughout the server. I, again, never heard one peep from anyone about these signs until members of our nation started leaving them. One thing I should mention is that at the time, the developer and server admin publically stated that profanity was OK to use in global chat. Again, certain members of our nation began to be punished for using profanity when we became the server's powerhouse nation, overtaking the nations of the developers and server admins friends.

When we were finally able to topple the Endless Souls nation and become the main nation on one of the games' official servers, the admin on the games official community server made a former member of the Endless Souls, a chat moderator. Since Sslazz (sp?) has become moderator, he has threatened and even actually muted members of our nation for no reason at all. I will admit, I was muted earlier today by Sslazz for trying to get an answer as to why the leader our nation was banned from the game (I will address this later). At no point in time did I harrass or use profanity towards any of the admins. All I was doing was asking questions, some of which were not being answered and others were being answered with so called violations that never existed before for their buddies.

The reason that being muted is important, is that you are unable to communicate with other players who you may be working with. Sometimes while trying to take out another nation, you will work with other players who are not members of your nation. The only way to do this is through global chat.

Now for the part about our leader being banned. To start I will go back a few days when we took out a certain someone's nation. I won't deny it, our leader was always present in the global chat. Yes, I felt that he took it too far on occasions, but I have seen other players (favorites of the developer/server admins) go just as far, and even further without being punished. That was one reason stated as to why he got banned.

The second reason, was that he created a ship that resembled a ♥♥♥♥♥. Yes, he did do this, but the idea was present in this game since I first saw one used when the Endless Souls attacked us. Nothing was said then, when they used it. When I presented that counter claim to the server admin, he then changed his story to "well he brought it to spawn". I asked him where it stated you couldn't bring certain ships to spawn and he said it was on one of the signs. I proceeded to go to spawn after he said this and could not find a sign stating that. After I brought this to his attention, he then said that he told him in a whisper chat (message can only be seen by receiving party). So certain players have certain rules while others do not? I have seen other ♥♥♥♥♥ shaped ships at spawn before and nothings happened.

I believe the third reason the server admin gave for the ban was the signs he was leaving after we toppled a nation. I have seen profanity used in global chat before, to which the server admin/developer said was fine. I have also seen signs with profanity used before by other players (buddies of the admin/developers), and nothing has happened to them.

The reason that banning people hurts your nation, especially in a nation of a few people, is that your nations defenses are the copper missile pods. The copper missle pods are run by dispersion generators which produce a waste (waste that can in turn be used for fuel in mass generators). The collection tanks for the dispersion generators can only be a max of 512 spaces. Once they fill up (it takes a while to clean the waste out), the dispersion generator stops working and the missile pods also stop working. This makes your nation defenseless and open for the taking.

I honestly don't know if this ban is the developer/admin's idea of how to take down our nation. We have spent hundreds of hours building up our nation, only for the developer/advmin to make us vulnerable because we toppled his buddies nations.

Lastly, after our leader got banned today, the developer, the official server admin, and the chat moderator were all laughing about the ban in global chat. If you want to put tons of time into the game only for your nation to be taken down by the developer and his official server admin, buy it. If not, please look elsewhere for a game.
