Hi Everybody!

Since the game was officially released two days ago, we've decided to publish change logs here. Obviously the dev blog notes are going to be more rare from now on, however the updates will certanly be posted regularly.

So, version change list is as follows:
  • Incorrect friendly fire penalty for shooting static objects, neutral and enemy houses fixed;
  • Server performance improved twice in the moments when ground vehicles explode during massive AI battles;
  • Dserver crashes that happen 1-2 times a day fixed;
  • In Campaign missions “Escort for assault planes”, “Ground attack”; “Ground forces support” there’s now a chance for the 2nd and the 3rd waves of enemy fighter escort to appear;
  • Spawn points for enemy fighters are now random in “Escort for assault planes” missions in Campaign;
  • Target area is now shown correctly on the enemy territory in the Uranus operation in Campaign;
  • Briefing data about airfield altitude and target approach altitude was rounded up in Campaign;
  • Atmosphere pressure and temperature were set in accordance to te dates in Campaign;
  • Autoplay for the final video cut scene fixed in Campaign;
  • Getting XP and a new level on the same debriefing window fixed in Campaign;
  • AI covering tactics changed: they don’t fly far away now from the objects they are covering
  • XP counting for destroying villages or towns was disabled. You still can get XP for destroying warehouses, plants, bridges, railway stations;
  • Plane setup is now correctly transferred from mission settings when login to a server or loading a mission; personal customizations are recorded for one mission;
  • Default plane setup no longer stops player from starting a mission (but we recommend you to check the settings if you’re playing on a custom server);
  • Incorrect image proportions fixed on loading screens;
  • User settings reset function will no longer reset all options but custom interface only;
  • Stats for destroyed static objects fixed;
  • XP counting for targets destroyed by the AI gunner fixed. Each object destroyed by a gunner should now be added to pilot’s log.

The game remains on the base of persistent and continuos wish to improve your skills. And we, keeping this base gameplay untouched, added the best features of other genres to create one of the most hardcore and honest games on the market.

We enjoyed making the IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad, that was so cool, and we hope you’ll enjoy playing it as well. Not the greatest SIM, Very far from the worst..

Only played for a few hours but i'm really enjoying this. There are only a few minor things that I kind of dislike, but for the most part it's a very well created sim and looks pretty damn good.

They could do away with the unlocks but hey its not a sim killer
graphics are pretty amazing
the missions are a bit bland and the friendly ai planes just get in my way (think they are more hungry for the kill than I am) - although i have not looked at how to give them orders yet so probably my own fault
flight dynamics are pretty good
damage models are awesome

that is all...... for now..

Battle of Stalingrad Falls Way Short of the Mark!
Firstly it should be renamed The 'Winter' Battle of Stalingrad because the winter map is all you get - no summer or autumn maps. And perhaps even the word 'battle' is inapropriate given that instead of the massive Stalingrad campaign involving vast numbers of planes, tanks, infantry and equipment you are presented with a bleak landscape where very little action takes place. You would hardly know there is a war going on let alone one of the most bitterly fought campaigns in history. And on top of that, there are so few available planes to fly. I don't expect a sim to be 100 % historically accurate, but really, a Stalingrad air battle simulation without JU52s? I can just about live with the fact there are no ME 110s (just about) but no JU52s? The whole point of the final phase of the Stalingrad air battle (and I repeat that is all you get) was providing the trapped German army with vital supplies from the air. In this important part of the battle JU52s were key. To a lesser extent the HE111 also contributed to the air-drops (and you do at least get this plane in the under-crowded hangar) but the JU52 was the principal work-horse. Making a Stalingrad sim without it is a huge oversight. In addition the different phases of the so called 'Campaign' are simply repetitions of the same meagre selection of missions given another title. Nothing more than scripted, non-dynamic quick missions with little or no variation. Last, but by no means least, you have to pay extra for two planes you should have received with the main product in the first place. After spending 50 euros on an incomplete sim it is a slap in the face to the customer to have to dish out another 18 euros for one additional aircraft. And by the way, DON'T. These aircraft are not in the same league as DCS World aircraft. For example, the flight characteristics of the FW 190 are almost laughable. Generally considered to be the most nimble, agile fighter of WWII, this simulated version snatches into a spin at the least provocation. It spins when you bank steeply and even during a simple barrell roll! Loops and Immelmans are performed reluctantly and the controls lock when you go into in a steep dive. The worst 190 flight model I have come across to date - a complete waste of money. (By the way, my HOTAS joystick equipment is top-notch.)
In general this over-priced sim is a missed opportunity. Instead of being the high quality sim that flight enthusiasts were hoping for it is simply an upgraded IL2 1946, but without the variety, and with far fewer planes and far less playability. The graphics are ok, but they fall way short of Cliffs of Dover - and, inexplicably, there are no clickable cockpits! I suggest you wait and see before you buy. If the developers invest time and effort into completing this product it could potentially be an interesting simulation and worth the price. But for the moment, don't buy it.

As much as I'd like to enjoy this game I just can't, it's full of stupid trade offs between Sim and arcade, it's got a stupid modfication unlock system, It will probably end up being a DLC cash cow and it's far from complete despite being 'released' you're far better off with Cliffs of Dover.

The best combat flight sim since IL-2:1946. Buy a joystick, learn to fly, be amazed. Seriously, just go do your first bombing at night-time. Go fight competitively in multiplayer. Hop into a gunner position on a bomber. Adjust your prop pitch, A/F mixture, Radiator/Oil grilles, flaps, bombsight, etc or just play normal and have the computer optimize it for you as your focus on dogfights and bombing.

Seriously, this game is awesome. Get it, learn it, enjoy!

About 10 years back I was really buissy flying IL-2 Sturmovik. I spent all my free time after work on it for many years.

But one important thing happend to me. I dicovered 3D. I flew FSX for a couple of years because that SIM was close to exellent regarding 3D. If the SIM/game didnt have 3D, I did not buy it.

I have read a lot about this SIM before I bought it. No one said anything about 3D.
Anyhow, this SIM beats even FSX as I see it. ALL 3D works almost exellent, (except around the widows in clouds, and waypoint-icons are not yet fixed), but I hope thouse small bugs soon will dissapear.

After flying IL-2 Sturmovik for all these years, this SIM finally appear. As I see it, other WW2
SIM´s are far from this class.
If you, the reader, have been convinced that a SIM/game is not worth spending time on if it don´t have exellent 3D, this is (when the the above mentioned bugs have bee sorted out), the best WW2-SIM that you can buy today.

I have heard some talks about the flight models. After all these years, flying IL-Sturmovik for hours most nights, I cant say that there is something wrong with this SIM-models, (maybe a little bit harder to land if anything :)

And when the Campaign came out, I didn´t even try it for a couple of days. Starting in the air was not real to me. But when I finally tryed a few missions, I was amazed at the way is was done. After just a few missions, take off was also from the ground, (and that was not as easy as it was in Olegs very exellent IL-2 Sturmovik SIM´s).

I just finally want to say, if the work on this SIM is kept up as in Rise of Flight, I don´t think there will be any real competition for a long time, regarding exellent WW2 SIM´s.

IL2:BOS is a game made for me. I'm new-ish to flight sims, have a joystick, TrackIR (actually a custom FreeTrack rig), and I prefer the frantic, tactical combat of dogfights to other aspects of flight simulators like systems management and realistic navigation. For me, Battle of Stalingrad gets it just right.

The game presents two preset difficulty options, Normal and Expert, and options for customization. In neither of the presets are flight mechanics or damage models compromised for ease. The fidelity of the flight simulation is top notch (maybe shy of some DCS modules, but it's hard for me to say - I certainly don't have any personal experience with WWII airplanes), and the feeling of immersion that this creates is wonderful. Dogfights are intense and breathtaking!

The game has received some flak from some of the more die-hard flight sim fans (who disparagingly compare the game to War Thunder). They complain (perhaps rightly) that the ease-of-use features kill the simulation, even on Expert difficulty. I share none of these concerns. To me, a beginner, the game focuses on exactly what I like about combat flight simulations: combat flight!

I like that I can choose between short (no takeoffs or landings) and long missions. I appreciate being able to turn icons on and off. I like that I can elect to use complex engine management, or leave that to the AI if I just want to focus on dogfighting. I like auto-level, time compression... all the options that allow a relative beginner like me to play the game as casually or as hardcore as I want to.

Admittedly, the game is not complete. So, reviewers who have complained about the rather lackluster single player really do themselves and the game an injustice. There are also a few issues I’ve gleaned from the forums which are likely legitimate and should be addressed in the future. But at a reported 90% completion, the game is quickly becoming one of my favorite flight sims of all time, up there with Rise of Flight (by the same studio), and IL-2 1946.

This is what IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover should have been. Bringing in the RoF and IL-2 teams under one roof was a genius move and it's really paid off. The flight mechanics are spot on and it doesn't just feel like WW2 planes with the RoF engine. This feels like it was built from the ground up to be a realistic (but fun) WW2 flight simulator. The UI is terrific, I've played many sims flight or otherwise and this game by far has the cleanest, friendliest UI of any. I hope new comers to the flight sim world start here because not only is it a great sim it's extremely easy to jump right into. The addition of short missions (optional takeoff/landing) will really help ease new players into the fun and the campaign seems well adapted.

This will be short.

I was skeptical at first, given the current climate in the games industry, but this is one of the best, if not, the best combat flight sims I've ever played.
Having a realistic flight model might seem restrictive at first, but where most sims try to make you feel like a pilot in a plane, IL-2 Sturmovik: BoS will make you feel like a winged ballerina with guns.

...and it's not even out of beta yet.

From what I see, it is simply an upgraded version of the classic IL-2 Sturmovik, with better graphics, flight model and AI, rather than the abortion that was IL-2: Cliffs of Dover. And that is high praise.

Despite being early access/beta, Il-2:BoS seems to be a complete, fully functional game. This is probably because it uses the well-tested Rise of Flight engine, which gives it a reliable foundation.

I don't hesitate to recommend it - I usually dislike early access (and certainly those priced as much as a fully-released game). However IL-2:BoS is definitely worth the $50 if you are interested in combat sims. If you are not sure, try the older, but still excellent IL-2:1946 first at $10 to see if you like the genre.

They only thing that was holding me back from buying this Sim was the negative reviews regarding a bad registration proccess, maybe they just fixed it right before i bought the game but for me, it was as smooth as creating a any other account.

the game looks and plays very nice, the only thing that i hate though is that aiming aid they added on todays patch (only on normal mode) i know i could just play on expert servers, but sometimes there is just no people on them so bad luck for me :(. other than that i really like the game so far and would recommend it any day (i just wish i could fly american planes).

Not bad, but not great.


Graphics are better than IL2 1946, worse than Cliffs of Dover, but could be better.
The physical models looks good.
SOME damage models looks good.
The snowy landscape although bland, look nice.
They say mods will be supported.
The only new WWII combat flight game this year.


Lots of flight models still wonky, and not much feedback if they are going to fix them.
Single player campaign is hollow and just a random mission generator.
No historical squads.
No custom options on the Campaign.
Unlocks, and XP points in a "sim" in order to get new weapons/missions/airfields. Really? In a sim?
Cockpits graphics look a bit better than IL2 1946.
Hollywood style smoke and fires. No plane goes down unless it is in a CLOUD of smoke.
Mods will be supported, but iffy on how much you can mod, and how restsrictive it will be.
Preset graphics options (you cant pick your own graphics settings).
Sound is decent, but far from good.
Trigger lag when firing guns.
ALWAYS on connection to play the Single Player campaign.
Not sure if it wants to be a War Thunder Arcade game or a sucessor to IL2 as a sim game.

Also dont be fooled by all the postive reviews. Some are correct in their opinion, but some are just people from the "Lets get good steam reviews" campaign that was launched from the devs forums.

Right now I cant reccomend this game to a combat flight sim fan. When they decide if they want to go Arcade or Sim, and how the release goes, I might have a different opinion. Until then this is my opnion of the Early Access of BoS.

This game has gone off the rails IMHO. I'm an early access buyer, and I am now being forced to play mind numbingly boring tutorials BEFORE I can access planes, skins or weapons. Moreover, it looks like, at 90 percent completion, that the single player campaign is limited, repetitive and almost devoid of any interesting material. Worse still, the developers have disabled fast time compression for the tutorials, so you can't even race through them. Add to that a complete disregard toward their fan base, and I certainly do not recommend this game. I bought early access to a simulation with complex engine management and great visuals and FMs, but the recent direction if the game is turning it into a boring arcade like experience. A fail on public relations and a fail on the arcade aspects of the game. Pity, since it had such potential. Stay away from this is my suggestion.
