Grand Chase Closing

Dear Steam Chasers,

It is with a heavy heart and remorse, that we bring some bad news to our all of our Grand Chase players.

As of April 15th 2015, Grand Chase will be closing globally.
The servers will be come down on April 15th 2015 at 9:00 PM PDT.

Launching Grand Chase on Steam was a very momentous occasion for all of us at KOG Games. Though not as long as we’d hoped, we’re very proud of all of our players and we’re proud of the time we’ve spent servicing Grand Chase. We are very thankful and humbled for the chance to bring one of the best MMORPG brawlers to Steam.

Please click on the following link for more information regarding the closure: Official Announcement

However, not all news is bad. Though Grand Chase will be closing, we’d like to make sure that even up until our last day together, we have some awesome farewell events and in-game goodies to share.

Free 1,000,000 VP (In-Game Points)
During the maintenance on January 29th, the K-Ching Buy Button was removed to prohibit any further purchase of K-Ching for buying cash items. That being said, we have distributed 1,000,000 VP to be used instead of K-Ching for all Shop and Coordishop purchases. That means all qualified players can use VP just like K-Ching, and buy anything they want. Any account created prior to January 29th 6:00pm PDT will qualify. Players can verify their VP from the in-game K-Ching shop UI.

K-Ching Compensation for those who’ve invested in Grand Chase
We will be providing 100% reimbursement of any K-Ching purchased by Steam players for Grand Chase. All reimbursed K-Ching will be reallocated to your KOG Games account. For example, if from April 2014 to December 2014 you have spent 50,000 K-Ching, it will be reimbursed as 50,000 K-Ching to be used with any other games that KOG Games currently publishes.

Please keep in mind:
- Only purchased K-Ching will qualify for compensation
- K-Ching acquired via events, contests and surveys will not qualify
- K-Ching compensation distribution dates and further details will be announced at a later time

Grand Chase Official Forum Closing
Date: 4/17/2015 9:00 PM PDT
Forums will no longer be accessible after April 17th, please make sure to save all of your information, screenshots, etc. prior to the closing of the forums.

Downloads via Steam are no longer available, however if you have already downloaded the client, you may continue to play the game until the closure.

We do have more events in the works and will announce them as the details become finalized.

Though our time was short, we are honored that we are able to spend our last moments playing Grand Chase together with the Steam community.

Thank you for your support!
-The Grand Chase Team

Before you judge my decision, please be aware that I loved this game.

So Grand Chase, yeah. This was my most favourite side scrolling action mmo, that no other game of this type could beat. I prefered it over Elsword, LaTale and all of this kind of stuff. It was kinda original and it felt just so good to play it and level up all of your heroes under one name. I did not play for long and when I saw the annoucement that it comes to Steam, I was really happy and looking forward to download it.

However, everything was wrong. You need to buy character slots, no more character quests, servers are ♥♥♥♥, community dead, also it stutters alot for no reason..by moving it on steam, or by Elsword company taking over it the game died. Everything good is gone, and I am quite sure it wont be any better, cuz they have already the Elsword game, which is more popular, and they wont care about this game too much (I guess). However, I would not be mad if I could get suprised and this game became good again, but that just never happens.

Let a veteran from a time long forgotten tell you something: This entire game has been pay to win from the start, and it has been evident ever since Dio came out that this travesty that the corporate snake KoG calls a "game" was dying. So in their mind, having insanely oped characters constantly spewed out, giving out free cash sets at reaching SS rank, giving you stupid amounts of free KC for migrating accounts will keep their mentally deprived community from leaving, and you know what? They were right.

People still continue to support a game with a hell of a lot more misses than hits, and the logic behind that will forever be a mystery to me. In short, don't play this game.

I played this game when they used to only have 5 characters and now that Im back years later I cannot believe how nerfed this game has become.

Pros
+You can select any character from the start
+Many gameplay mechanics are still in place that keep to the sidescroller action
+Armor designs are still pretty awsome(only after hitting lvl 20)
+A guild system
+Theres more dungeons and bosses including event dungeons
+A larger character roster of 20 characters to chose from

Cons
-Your limited to selecting 4 out of 20 Characters and you cannot delete them to chose another, you can get free slots but only in certain events which dont happen often, otherwise you must pay for them which is 10$ per slot so if you wanted to play all 20 of them in dungeons thatll be 160$ please
-They added a new gacha machine which nobody is even going to bother with, if you like gambling save that money go to vegas
-Many of the outfits you pay real money for look ridiculous to the point were some apparal doesnt even look attached to your character.
-As others have already said Pvp is about stats not skills
-Early dungeons are many and too easy, theres no benifit to playing those dungeons with other people considering its tutorial lvl difficulty making the game boring even at lvl 35+ so any arcade like difficulty is dead and gone.
-Some skill trees require REAL MONEY to unlock.
-Theres no Xbox 360 controller support so expect your triggers, Right thumb stick, and d-pad to be totally useless and with the expanded skill tree and skill bar means youll have to give up some bindings.

Overall Grand Chase has lost alot of its faithful fanbase due to its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nerfing and new stats system to win pvp, if you wanted a challenging arcade side scroller its not here.

Most new characters are playable, but the biggest dissapointment is you have to be a cash player to make an awesome character. some skills are also need some cash to unlock. Not the type of game I would play.

Grand Chase was a good game, was, season 3 and 4 was its peak, but I don't think I will continue to play this... maybe it's the time for shut down... since you could only enjoy the game fully if you got the wallet, paywall makes ppl cry... they made me broke to tears, but it was long ago, now it's worse, ok let's say the paywall is not that bad... but long time ago.. you could PLAY EVERY CHARACTER WITHOUT SPENDING ANY real life money.... you must however, unlock them by doing overly long mission, but the point is, you could unlock them, somehow.... without spending any munny, now, it is different... while you can initially choose any character for free... you got 4 slots for this... after that, you'd need to spend your wallet on buying the extra slot... also did I said the character you've picked can't be undone? yep. more minus... I, however, do respect ppl who still going to play this despite the said reason, wholeheartedly, and without any sarcasm... but I think I'm too old for this kind of joke of a should-be-released-as-mobile game, just hope season 6 will come and done with less expensive way to enjoy this (Oh what am I talking about)

I have been playing this game for a long time now, and while I can say it is very different from when the game was in it's earlier stages/seasons, it still, at least for me has that certain charm that makes the game so appealing.

Basically this game is a side-scroller, like certain MMOs, but it has 3D models, the battle system is basically keyboard based (Which for me and some people is a plus) and has a plethora of characters to choose from. I think I believe it is now at 20. Most of the characters has 4 jobs, however for at least half of the characters the jobs are just expansions of the characters initial job. The characters can be classified as MP (mana bar based, fills as you attack and only 4 skill buttons), AP (like a mana bar but has fills up on it's own and has 5 skills buttons) and AMP (Which is AP style with a mana bar). The MP characters have 4 jobs that you can switch between just by equiping a different weapon type (which is reflective off what job they are in). The AP and AMP characters only use one weapon, but their higher jobs add on to their skill tree.

Skill trees are like in any other game which when you level up you get a certain amount of points to assign certain skills, the MP characters only have a full skill tree in the first job, and the other characters skill trees basically expand when they acquire more jobs.

Speaking of characters, as of the most recent season you get 4 free character slots, with these slots you can pick any characters you want to play as. Before you had to start off with the Knight (Elesis), the Archer (Lire) the Mage (Arme) and the Pheonix (Rin), but you could unlock the others. Now You get to pick whatever 4 but to unlock more characters you got to pay for more slots, OR wait for an event where you get free character slots.

Some people get off put by the fact that there is an cash shop but its not that big of a problem. There are plenty of ways to get the highest stats without using cash at any point. Cash just helps you get them easier and has some "exclusive" stuff to them such as certain pets and armor.

In this game you can have pets that help you in battle. The free pets must be found via manuals that drop in dungeons during champion mode or during events. The cash pets while are cool, sometimes are weaker than the free pets.

There is a PVP mode, which is better now that you can customize the rules of your room. But I don't really like to play PvP that much as I am more of a dungeoner.

Only dunegons no world map that you can travel.

There is no trade system, Could be seen as bad, but It makes your items rarer (to a certain degree) and more worth while and no need to worry about losing items to people who would trade everything away.

Overall this game is a fun game, especially when you have people to play with you, The characters all have distinct styles and the gameplay is simple, yet can have depth in the moves, especially with there being advanced stuff. Even though some people say that the game is too easy now, don't let that turn you away, try it out and make the judgement yourself. This game can be charming in its own way.

(Please note that this game is made by the same people who make Elsword, which is supposedly like it's spiritual successor, and while they have somethings in common, they play very differently, at least in my opinion.)

Oh Grand Chase, where did you go wrong? I remember playing this game when it was around the season 3 area. I left off playing it for about 4 years and I randomly find it in Steam! I put it in my library and download it hoping that I will feel my nostalgia all over again! WRONG! Instead of allowing you to play every character, they limit it down to 4 character, that is unless you are thinking of making your wallet a bit hungry. Although I only played it for 10 minutes recently, I am a bit discussed at how many microtransactions there are. Serious, they are turning into EA now, which is never good for any company. I miss the old game and I am pretty sad that this game is going to be shut down soon.

For people who 'Tl;Dr'. If not, continue on to the main part.

Pros
-----
Fun with friends
Fun enemies and bosses
Unique Skill Tree for each character
Easy to get the hang of
Various Characters

Cons
-----
Getting new characters mainly requires K-Ching (irl currency in-game)
Can have monsterous lag/stuttering
Semi-toxic playerbase as of now
EXTREMELY grindy late game.
Bad PvP balancing and hit detection

I've played 150 hours (as told by Raptr's game tracker) at the very least, over multiple seasons this game has went through, so I know a fairly decent amount of stuff about this game. Now, I cannot really recommend this game 100% because of some of the problems with this game. I've been a player on Grand Chase well before it ever became an idea to come to Steam, and it was a fairly fun game: Decent community (but has dwindled now), fun and interesting enemies and areas to play, a *cough* good story, and always trying to come up with new ideas for an event dungeon (It might still be doing the bullet-hell-esque dungeon when I'm posting this). This game also has changed drastically for the worse: Characters now have to be bought unless an event gives away an unlock token/slot (each cost 10 or 15 [your currency], forgot the exact pricing), PvP is really unplayable for the most part, and lots of lag/stuttering every where it seems. Also, despite what people want to say, this game isn't unfairly p2w, but can give you some advantages here and there.

Then there is the MMO portion of it with the leveling up, changing armor, etc., that is kind of fun to do early on, however when you're trying to max out (Lvl 85) on 19 characters because there isn't really much content for a character AFTER getting to that level, it can get tedious and extremely grindy. The bright side of this is that each character is different enough to where you feel like you aren't playing as a copy and pasted character, especially with the Skill Tree system they have. Most of the characters have 4 jobs that change their skills and can change their skill tree, throwing in various different styles of play for each character.

If you're looking for a game to play with your friends and have a decently fun time, I would recommend this, but as a game to invest a lot of time, and I mean 100+ hours, not really worth it. I still find myself having fun on it from time to time, but not much anymore. Since this isn't a review of every little thing in the game, play it for yourself and determine if you like it or not, but this was my feelings on this game.

I liked ~Rebirth~ but since Season V came out I didn't like it that much because you can ONLY play 4 charas WITHOUT spending real-life money.
But I'll start again even though I need to create 5 Accs for playing all charas.
To those who enjoy RPGs would like it but those who don't want to create 5 Accs for playing all charas won't enjoy it, since you've to play all over again (if you started to play it before Season V came out).
You'll probably lose your interest pretty fast.

Well, I never even knew this game was on Steam. Where to start, where to start...

So I've played this game for about 5-600 hours and always loved the feeling of the grind to get characters, or drops, or just do a certain dungeon over and over and over and over and over again for a crest above your head, worth it.

I always played this game and I have never stopped loving it until 1 year ago, the servers slowly became less and less populated, until it kind of died out. I recently downloaded it again and logged in to look for a PvP match, took me 30 minutes to find 1 guy shouting at me for being too high of a level and/or having too high stats.

In this game you can grind and grind to level and get certain items, better items equal higher damage/defense, etc. Better armor gives u better stats, if you want to have the best stats, be ready to pay real money. On characters where I only have real money items for just looks, I can only get S- max, and that is if I kept grinding for good armor.
If you pay real money you can get SS in no time, so those people WILL have an adventage over you.

In this game you can also have pets, most of them suck. Then again, certain even pets where really good, but you could only get them for a short period of time. Ofcourse the cash pets where the best in terms of holding an opponent in PvP or just damage in dungeons.

TL:DR : Play it if you like games where you have to constantly grind to get higher and better. If you are one of those people that are willing to pay cash to have good stats in a game they enjoy, this is probably NOT your game.

6/10 I'd play it again if I could at the time I played it, right now I can't even imagine playing it for real.

First of all. Grand Chase (GC as we call) was the only MMORPG game which I had a long and real fun while playing.
I'm a beta player, where we only had, Elesis, Lire, Arme and then Ronan / Lass.

A lot of things happened in GC, the company sold the game, then tried to buy it back, and so-so. The game faced a lot of time to get closed as well.. Now what, more than %70 of the old players left the game, just because they are doing it everytime. Paying for GC is ok, it's fine, and worth it but losing your lots of items after per company change is harmful. We had memories in this game, we even kept items those were meaning a lot, or left us the imagines of old tough boss rushes we have done with our lovely friends. But it's really tiring how the game everytime does that..

I don't know, I can't say I played it after steam release, and I would definately start from the beginning once again if I could trust.. We even had a promised Europe server coming and we all were happy with that until the day it cancelled.

I don't know. Maybe I will start over, but what's the reason of it anyway? Try it out yourself, since it's free. The gameplay is fun I promise for that, but what is important in the game is, playerbase. If the playerbase is fine this time, I would definately start over.

Even though the server is closing, I'm still always gonna be dissapointed by how Grand Chase turned out.

I started playing in Season 4 (Grand Chase Chaos), and everything was good. Character GP Mission, no Total Attack system, everything was nice. Then, Season 5 came (Rebirth or Rising, I don't know), and it changed EVERYTHING. I am totally dissapointed when Season 5 came out. It was like KOG is trying to leech out money from us players, by ANY means necessary. Dissapointing.

Pros: Skill based
Plan your skill tree
Work as a team to beat bosses
PVP is existant and played frequently
Guilds
You can now play as any character right off the bat
Characters have fundamentally different types of combat

Whatever you think of it: Anime looking characters
Characters become older/sexier when you advance in jobs

Cons: P2W = better stats, more abilities, better everything
Interface is !@#$ed up compared to earlier versions
Equipment from earlier seasons do not compare to current equipment
Cannot reset skill tree without paying money or waiting for an event
You can only play a limited number of characters unless you bought more slots
Not every job has a unique skill tree

Author comment: I have played grandchase since season 1 off and on.

This game used to be wonderful... But then the playerbase reduced to a terrible number and lately they haven't had any interesting updates, just new outfits so they can compensate for their greed. There are plenty of holes and the story hasn't intertwined in any interesting ways yet. So to put it simply, I would play this game if not for the lack of major updates in the past month and the usual raging toddlers found in the PvP rooms. And do not base my review on my steam hours played. I've played since Season 2, which is several years.

Final Rating: 6/10

I played this game an absolute ton when I was younger, so I’ve invested plenty of time into this game previously, and this review is more about the changes it's undergone over the years since my hiatus.

First up, is that the game has changed. A LOT! When I started, they gave you 3 starting characters then from that point you would buy quests, using in-game currency I should add, then do the quests to receive the character. Sometimes it was an absolute pain to get the character, but you could get it without paying real money, and there was no character limit, unlike there is now. One upside though is you can choose pretty much any of the characters when you start and you’ll keep them forever without having to worry, but now there’s a limit. You get 4 character slots before you are forced to pay with real money, so alarm bells already start to ring there, since before there was no limit.

So alright, I got through that and went into the tutorial, and I’m pleased to say the combat hasn’t changed much, and I’m glad. It was the main reason I had stuck around for so long and I’m happy to see it’s still the same 2D brawler action that was a load of fun. But with a positive comes a negative. I went into the shop and to my surprise, EVERYTHING now costs real money! I couldn’t even figure out what the in-game currency was for anymore. You can’t buy armour or weapons with it, so it’s become effectively useless. Back in the day you could, but now it’s only for those with their wallets out!

I hate what they’ve done to the game. I wouldn’t say its pay to win, but it certainly is pay to enjoy the game properly. They’ve done so much wrong with this game and it’s nothing more than a cash cow with all the money grubbing tactics and microtransactions they have in place. I enjoy the gameplay, but with all these restrictions I can’t see myself coming back to this game, as it’s been left a husk of its former self and it’s clear to me the developers only care about your money, nothing more.

The old, cutesy-pie action RPG MMO squeaks back into the fray on Steam. Not much to think about here; if you dig this genre, go for it. Be prepared to grind your adorable heart out for class upgrades if you're not willing to pay real money to buy them outright. There is an element of the objectification of children here - as they're nothing more than fighting dolls in suggestive clothing.

You're probably better off avoiding this merciless time sink.
