Aside from all the hate and vacancy this game embodies, I think it can be a real gem. Back in the day when it used to be filled with loads of players, it was fun to the extremes. I do agree that it is more fun with more players, but it can still be a blast alone. This game came out in 2001-2003, so don't expect the cartoony graphics to be all that great.
The fanbase is very small but very chill. Most players you meet will be up for any mission and will understand when you leave. Although the little amount of hatred a few players seem to have impacts the game, the impact is so small that all the cool and fun players overwhelm it. Also, prepare for loads of anime fanatics and a few weeaboos.
This is going to be tough to do...
Well, the gameplay is very simple, start, begin mission, advance, new equipment. Repeat the process a couple times. But it is repetitive. Repetitive in a good way. See, the gameplay is fun, so it would be more fun to repeat something fun. But that doesn't mean repetitivity is fun. Aside from that, the vast amount of equipment is actually pretty cool. You have a new set available every couple of levels. Now the job system is a little tricky. Each character has different jobs to progress through and advance with. You have to complete more advanced missions to unlock each job, but you could also pay money for the painfully easy job missions. Most of the time, a new job also bears a new weapon type. Examples would be this: Sword to spear to giant sword to dual swords. Simple as that. The pay-to-win model is very large and can make an impact on your gameplay if you don't have money or don't want to spend money.
