I got hundreds of hours on this game before it hit steam, and it was all worth it. The gameplay is extremely simple - you move with the arrow keys and attack with Z, and depending on what character you're using - what directions to push while attacking, whether or not your x changes stances/powers you up, and what your abilities do.
After level maybe 6 or 7, each character is unique and interesting, and although you're pressing Z, each one feels very different. Elesis is slow, but can still roll around and dash - Lass is tricky and extremely mobile, he does a lot of damage very quickly like an assassin should, but is easy to kill. Ryan is EXTREMELY slow and attacks with a massive axe - he does plenty of damage, but if I remember right (not a fan of Ryan) he can't dash UNLESS he transforms. The mages all have different unique skills, and the difference between the archer(bow) and bounty hunter(guns) is huge. For new players - I would suggest Edel (my personal favourite) because she's very powerful and fast, and has crazy mobility with the ability to leap behind people with a z(up) for melee, Ley for mage (simple and strong, and you can choose two routes of summoning or pure spell power) and for ranged, probably lire, though she hasn't aged well I'll admit.
And if you don't like the look of any of them - the practise mode gives you 100% unlimited access to ALL of them, all of their advancements, and all of their skills (including the ones you have to buy with real money)
The game is great for wasting time even still, I've gotten 5 characters to level 30-40 simultaneously on this new account simply because I enjoy how fast I can switch playstyles - dungeons last from 55 seconds to 10 minutes, though early levels like mine can be completed in 3-4 minutes easily, and outside of a dungeon, you can switch what character you want on the fly.
Now for the bad part: PvP really is pay to win. You CAN beat someone who has paid for al the best stuff, but there's only so long before the frustration of a 15 loss streak sets in before you say screw it and go back to soloing dungeons. However, this is balanced out by having probably the best community (and probably smallest for a game this size), and solo play is preferred unless you go into this game with friends.
That being said - I believe it's worth a damn, and if you have some time on your hands, try it. You'll be surprised
