Only 15 minutes into the game and....Oh boy....

I only bought this game cause it was at 14 CENTS! And I wanted to try out this game because I was curious about this game.
Ok, lets first start with the story. Aliens invade your tiny home and capture you to test you. If you succed the tests, you have your freedom. This kind of story left soo many gapes open... Why do these aliens want this weird ugly formed squared guy? Why invade smething more tiny and small then a deserted island? Who knows, who cares..
Next, let's go with the gameplay. They give you an short view of the controls before you select level 1 - Oh, I'm sorry... "TEST1".... So, you start by, standing in the air for 2 seconds? Ok, then you are dropped in a giant blue opened box with a weapon that has no reload, so, spray and pray (I think). It's strange that the guns look better then the entire game, but I'll talk about that later. So the objective of every level is to kill every, zombies (?) in the level and procced to an floating blue orb that takes you to the level selection with the next level unlocked. Also, you can't shoot from the blue box. An message saying "Nice try! Jump first then you can shoot!" clever... Also, sometimes, when you kill an enemy, it gives you a useless random slow-motion. Next, we have the graphics. IT'S ALL SQUARE! And I'm not talking about squared like Minecraft or other stuff, I'm talking about people trying to make human shapes out of squares with lot of space between every square, it looks awfull (including the main character). Also, as I mentioned before, the guns are the only thing that look better in this ugly game. All colored squares, no textures, JUST COLORED SQUARES! (And maybe some circles...) In the effects part, there are just watery effects, square effects for water (what?) and the bullet impact that actually look nice, not gonna lie. Ok, now, we have the controls. Now these ones are tricky ones. The mouse view has an "wanna be real" look, it has that delay when you turn the mouse. Your character, might I say, is an horrible jumper. It has no distance and no highness. The speed is decent, nothing new.
Next, we have the level designs. Oh man.... The level designs are horrible... Imagine like those levels where you can fall for your death anywhere cause there are open gapes everywhere. That's all the levels in this game. Just in "TEST2" I died 3 times in a row because just to get down you have to parkour into some huge cubes floating and rotating and your character is such a bad jumper, you'll die just trying to start the level. Just before I end this, when you die, your character is found dead and being killed by zombies while more are coming. It's trying to be scary or creepy, but it just fails to do so.

Overal, this game makes no sense about story, horrible level design, lazy modeling of characters and enemies, lazy squared graphics, weird controls and lazy gameplay.

I do NOT recomend this game, even if it's 14 cents.

I really don't want to give this a negative review, considering I got this game free. But, I really couldn't imagine paying money for it.

Lets start with the good
  • The music! As simple as it is, I actually really like it!
  • The enemy a.i. actually strafes, rather than walking straight towards you.
  • As basic as the art style is, I think it's actually really visually appealing!
  • Nice ambiant sound, like the waterfalls, and traipsing through water!
  • The crosshair effect when mousing over an enemy is nice!
  • Slow motion on levelling up is cool!

And then, the bad
  • Jumping. Um, what? When you jump down to another platform, who knows what will happen. Sometimes a gust of wind will come from nowhere and blow you at 100mph across to the other side of the map (and make you fall off), sometimes you can double jump, sometimes you are hurled back. Really quite frustrating.
  • Holes in the floor. Yes, they make the game that little bit harder. But sometimes it's overkill, given that every few steps you have to jump over one. And given there are always at least 2-3 enemies agro'd on you at once, it's kind of hard to shoot, and focus on jumping.
  • Lack of detail - Every level really feels like it took 10 seconds to design. A patch of ground here, a tree here, some enemies here... And done.
  • The music randomly stops? Really annoying, because I actually like the music.
  • Wait 5 seconds for spawn? Why does the game insist you float in the air for a good 5 seconds for no apparent reason, before you're allowed to start the level? (side note, if you press pause, you still fall down).
  • Blocks get in the way. When you shoot a monster (or some trees), they explode with blocks. Usually I have to wait for them to despawn, because instead of being able to kick them out the way, they act as impassable walls that have a mind of their own.
  • Lack of level structure. First level, I was able to complete on the first try. Second level took 20 minutes. Trial and error, random deaths, unfair and yet unexpected wind mechanics. Spam of enemies. Oh yeah, and that's another thing.
  • Spam of enemies. If you have more than 3 enemies chasing you, it's basically game over. Given that the maps are tiny and covered in holes, it's virtually impossible to fend off more than three monsters at once. Especially when your only weapon is a baseball bat. This also hammers in the thought that maybe each level had barely any thought put into it, given that the levels consist of a tunnel with literally a line of enemies. My only solution appears to be to edge closer until I agro the nearest one, and spam the swing button until it's dead. Then repeat.
  • Cannot respawn. This just annoys me slightly. Instead of respawning you in the level, it takes you all the way back to the menu. I also have to watch a 10 second death animation, which isn't particularly interesting or relevant to how I died. And it's even more annoying given how easy it is to die!
  • Lens flare? If you look near the sun, there's a really fancy lens flare. However if you look directly at the sun, it disappears.
  • Not satisfying to kill enemies. Like at all. You just get lost in a barrage of square particles, and apparently shock waves. No +XP particles or cool death animation, just a spam of invisible wall blocks, and squares.
  • Finally, unlimited ammo. Like literally, there is no penalty for spraying bullets everywhere. Surely a cooldown for heat, or maybe enemies dropping ammo would be nicer!?
Sorry for the negative review, but it really has to be said!

As amusing as this game could have been I am afraid it just did not manage to do more than irritate me. No options to change key bindings or even reverse mouse made it a little awkard for me, but the game itself did nothing to win me over. You just wander through fairly linear yet pointless maps killing humanoids I assume are zombies with items I assume are weapons until you get fed up and try to figure out how to quit the game.

Oddly enough quitting was the most challenging part of the game as just as I decided I had enough the game stopped responding and I had to ctrl-alt-del to the task manager.

The only thing I liked about the game was the sound track .... and for the life of me I still don't know why.

Interesting concept but not a game I would play.

Worst game ever. Jumping is impossible to control, and you cant aim upwards. this makes the boss (actually just an average enemy with lots of health) on Test 6 impossible. You have no room to dodge, and you can't shoot the projectiles because you can't aim upwards properly. This game feels like its in VERY early alpha, and seems like it would of taken a couple of days to make. This game shouldn't even be on Steam, it's complete garbage.

Why?
Why can I bunnyhop and won't stop jumping?
Why is there unlimited ammo?
Why are there pitfalls everywhere?
Why does the game change its pace every level?

Controls are kinda awkward, especially that bunny hopping can easily kill you. And the game needs to decide what it wants to be. Sometimes it's a shooter, sometimes a bad 3d platformer. Level design seems arbitrary to me with obvious misdesigns. Why do I have to get the bat and don't have it from the beginning? Enemy AI is non-existant. Why change the environement in level 6? Why insta-kill lava without warning? Why why why?

I honestly could not stand this game even though I played through the first five levels. Being hard is one thing, being frustrating another. Do not buy this, even for one buck. Sorry.

The soundtrack is good though. And it has cards. I don't care.

All these people grumbling! How wrong can you go spending 18 cents (Canadian)?

It hurts to think that I could have bought half inch of cold coffee in the bottom of a used styrofoam cup, but spent that 18 cents here instead.

Btw, I haven't played this game for 11 hours. I fell asleep with the game running.

Not sure if this should be even called a "game". But I am sure about another thing - this should NOT be available to worldwide customers on Steam. If disrespecting gamers community will not be stopped, soon they will offer to us nothing, and we will have to pay for it. Making games is like an art... just like painting when it comes to imagination... Dead Bits is like empty easel.

This game seems like it was made by a 12 year old, in the ROBLOX game engine. Litterally block zombies run at you, you kill zombies "Yes" also lets talk about the unessasary dubstep moments of slow motion, dont buy it unless it was on for 12 cents like when I bought it. also I finished it in one playtrough at night.
