An Update on DDE

Greetings Defenders,

Thank you for your support through the release of Dungeon Defenders Eternity. It’s been a humbling experience, one that has highlighted that we need to do better as a studio. The lessons we’ve learned, from greenlighting projects to managing external partners, have been invaluable.

As such, we have discontinued our relationship with Nom Nom Games. At Trendy, we will be producing one more patch, which will remove the playverse login and overlay. (The monster is dead!) This patch will not contain any gameplay modifications or the in-progress rebalance. In the future, you will receive your Hall of Triumphs rewards for owning Dungeon Defenders Eternity automatically in Dungeon Defenders II.

As a thank you for your continued support, we will be giving owners of Dungeon Defenders Eternity a free code for the Dungeon Defenders Collection later this summer. This will be a giftable code, so if you already own the full collection, you will be free to give it to a friend or sell it to a stranger.

We’re also updating the original Dungeon Defenders. For the full details, please head to this post.

Sincerely,
The Trendy Team

Update: Steam gave us the all-clear, so we went ahead and sent out the Dungeon Defenders Collection codes. You'll find the code in your Steam Inventory.

Update 2: If you received a giftable copy of DDE (either as a gift from another user or if you purchased a Steam copy of DDE on another website), you should now have a copy of the DD1 Collection in your Steam library. Unfortunately, Valve was unable to give gift-copy players a giftable copy of the DD1 Collection.

Update 3: The free DD1 Collection code offer will end on June 5th. If you haven't received your free code, you have until June 5th to contact support@trendyent.com to receive your code.

Devs just gave out free Dungeon Defenders Collection gifts to all people who own Dungeon Defenders Eternity. This means the devs are abandoning support for this game and want you to go back to Dungeon Defenders 1.

If you want Dungeon Defenders, get the first game instead. DDE was a failed attempt to re-release DD1 with some upgrades.

It's mindblowing that people still buy this game.

It's buggy, unfinished, and abandoned by its developers.

DO NOT BUY.

Sounds like as of this week, the developer is giving up on Eternity, pushing a few more updates to the original game, and then leaving it in the hands of the players to work on. Seems the community moved back to the original anyway for the most part, as Eternity was just a pointless rebuild of a game that was fine to begin with. If you're going to play, I'd bet on the original game being the one with staying power. Don't invest in this one.

You can read this to understand the difference between the games, besides just the UI:

Yes, it does seem like Eternity has more content overall. Maybe someday someone can port some of it down to the original. Until then, it seems like people are willing to live without it. I just checked the player counts right now. The original has 825 and Eternity has 53. It will only become more lopsided in the future.

What was originally a somewhat iffy re-release of Dungeon Defenders, with some added content and some missing content, is now plain dead in the water. DDE will never get the missing content from DD1, DD1 will never get the new content or DESPERATELY needed rebalances from DDE. Now pretty much all that's left is to wait for DD2 and hope they don't manage to completely ♥♥♥♥ it up a third time.

Ok let me first say I DID enjoy the Dungeon Defenders 1 and Eternity. Now they are going to come out with Dungeon Defenders 2. Dungeon Defenders Eternity (DDE) has recently had a patch. This patch messed things up. Whether or not it is intentional is not for certain. I do however know that several of my friends that play it have reported the issue and had no response to their inquiry. I posted on the forums and no response either. I even looked on the known issues section of the forums, nothing there either. The 2 most played maps (cause of the good loot and gold ammount) are unplayable. So I now feel like I've thrown away my money in this game. I'm not 100% sure but I'm starting to believe this is a marketing strategy to get players to quit DDE and go back to DD1 or even get DD2, their new baby. Either way I wouldn't buy this unless it gets fixed since other maps don't give as good loot/gold as those 2. This makes me upset and I may even take my money and gaming time elsewhere. Who knows they may make DD3 and do the same to the other DD's. DON'T BUY THIS!!! At least not till they fix it.
